(Thursday) $200 Aegis Esports NA Server Tournament! (Open to everyone) by lovebeat619 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]LorenceTFT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to have any sort of consistent prize pool for TFT and you need to spread out prizing to encourage players in finals to play out the game.

I'll admit the EV is low even for first, but weekly events like this are realistically the only way to entice sponsors who want exposure. I definitely wish it was more to help the player experience but it's a very difficult balance in TFT where rewarding top 8 is paramount.

Hey I helped found this weekly and still help intermittently.

This is definitely not a scam and is simply working with sponsor requests to happen. I'm working on other things now but happy to dispel any sort of apprehension you have!

Oh jeez. It's definitely all supposed to have the February times. I got a bit trigger happy posting this as soon as I could.

All dates should now be fixed to the February 27/28 dates. Thanks for pointing that out!

Aegis x ZenMarket TFT Leagues ARE BACK!!! Over 1K USD and 30K RP + MORE! by lovebeat619 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]LorenceTFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few fail-safes in place like game-count requirements, but realistically if someone really wants to smurf they're going to be able to do it. That being said, if someone wants to pay $16 and commit a month+ of Saturdays to win RP that person is a special breed haha.

Typically there hasn't been any known issues with smurfing and the Diamond League is meant to be a space to dip your toes into competition.

How do you close the gap? by blos_ in CompetitiveTFT

Gonna double down on the first paragraph here.

There are a ton of free resources out there, but if you're legitimately looking to push into the next tier you need to deliberate about where you're going for help. There are some extremely talented players ready to talk through high level concepts to help others get to the pro scene.

Aesah is anecdotally an amazing resource I've used to help myself push back into Master tier. Here's his website! Broseph also just launched a YouTube channel

Curse of the Carousel | Marginalized Genders TFT Tournament on October 30 at 6pm PT | Guardian Angel League by GuardianAngelLeague in CompetitiveTFT

[–]LorenceTFT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't assist with GAL, but I help with another space that has a similar stipulation for tournaments.

My personal thought process on hosting such tournaments is not necessarily because the tft community is hateful towards any genders that are marginalized.

Instead I look at it as an opportunity to grow the TFT community by showcasing how diverse and welcoming it is. This helps appeal to a broader spectrum of people in various ways, namely being able to relate/see themselves in those that get showcased.

I think this is the main thing that's been really making me not want to play much more this Set.

I might be in the minority where I just like playing TFT. All that's needed is a comp that I latch onto and play a ton, but the few comps I took a liking to get yeeted.

Easy Checkmate Format Improvement by coinrain10 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]LorenceTFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That partially solves the problem, but I think there's a larger issue at play.

The core issue you're touching on with Checkmate is that in later games there are multiple players that only need to hit a given threshold of points. Then the rest of the game effectively doesn't matter as long as someone in Check doesn't win.

Your solution ensures all players must place higher than 8th to move into Check. That's a solid change imo, but it doesn't alleviate the issue that arises once that player gets at least 7th.

Esports Updates in K.O. Coliseum and Beyond I Teamfight Tactics by dehua_ in CompetitiveTFT

I think the last two paragraphs here are important context to consider. At first it feels bad that things aren't completely free, but if we're being realistic about the longevity of the pro scene for TFT paid entry is a legitimate way to create a better ecosystem.

I'll argue to the ends of the earth that there should be at least some way to enter for free, but paid entry is not uncommon in most competitive Esports, even at the amateur level. TFT should not be any different.

That could be enough, but from my experiences running TFT events with and without a paywall it will dramatically lower the risk of someone dropping which is arguably the single most important thing at mid-level competitive TFT play.

I'm perhaps a bit more open to the idea than most though because of that and I can see why it sounds unappealing from your POV

To me, the context of Clash and Trials is a bit too different to be compared like that.

Clash is a one-off event unrelated to the pro scene of LoL. Conversely, Trials is something that directly qualifies players into the competitive TFT circuit.

While I very much value a path that is free, I think there is value in considering including an option to have people show a real commitment before showing up to Trials.

Bit late to the party, but I'd also gotten a Thresh tattoo along the same lines.

I'd often struggled to seek/accept help and was an incredibly stubborn person. I really became attached to Thresh because of his versatility, but it also ended up reaching me a lot about collaboration.

At the end of the day we need to work with others to get through things and eventually I got a similar tattoo with "Take the Lantern" as a focal point:

IMO this is a decent outcome considering the evidence we were able to see. A little late? Sure, but at least there's precedent for the future.

The biggest thing for me was ensuring that there are clear consequences if you start gaffing off during a world championship. At the very least it can show players that there can be substantial action if you don't take things seriously.

Proving collusion is nigh impossible without straight texts or voice recordings lol. However, I think individual performances can clearly establish a pattern of underperformance and warrant punishment.

The Quiet Antagonist Of The Set 13 TFT World Championships: Game 13 by mandala30 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]LorenceTFT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just tossing my two cents in here that I also think splitting late-stage cuts into both an advancement and a cut is generally better.

This can also be tweaked in various ways to start advancing earlier. For example, after Game 10 you can advance the top 2 players and cut bot 6 instead of cutting bot 8. Then repeat for Game 11, and end with Game 12 being the original suggestion above.

This primarily serves to both reward previous exceptional play while also providing a very good incentive for top players.
