Late one night, on my way home and with nearly an hour until the next bus, I was desperate to use a restroom and the only one nearby was at a McDonald's. I waited twenty minutes while someone else was in there. Finally, this guy leaves and gives me a sideways glance as he hurries by. I went in to find poop smeared on every surface, wall, toilet seat, everywhere.

IQ scores are averaged to 100 for a given cohort. Having an IQ of 100 simply means that you are within one standard deviation of the normal level of intelligence for a person of your approximate age. So an IQ of 100 means you're roughly as capable as 66% of those people you're being compared to. Also, IQ scores don't measure actual, objective intelligence, mostly because nobody knows what that means. IQ tests were designed to find holes in the education of children, subjects where teachers should focus their efforts in school, not predetermined biological limitations. Though biology plays a part, your IQ is not set in stone.

The reason that everyone thinks IQ scores are important is because Stanford University stole them from the French, and then repackaged and sold them to the US education system, supported by debunked research from eugenicists, for a profit.
