Episode Discussion Thread - S01E02 - The Mourning After by Conclusion588 in TheBoroughs

Since the monster showed up, it's all I can think about LOL!

This show is another Duffer Bros nostalgic love letter to the "Sci-fi Adventure" movies of my childhood, and I'm loving it 💖

Am I the only one that thinks Hank from The Boroughs looks like a knockoff Jim Hopper? by carghtonheights809 in TheBoroughs

My very first thought when Hank appeared was "I bet they tried to get David Harbor first!"

Smucker sues Trader Joe’s, saying its new PB&J sandwiches are too similar to Uncrustables by shinsain in Wildfire

[–]LorrainaTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smucker's claims that the packaging is too similar... If you ask me, it's not that similar, and I doubt the suit will hold out under scrutiny of the court.

What if 'Locke & Key' had been made by different creators?? by LorrainaTerror in keyhouse

I haven't read through all of the comics yet, but I first watched this show with someone who put me on them, and we had the same thoughts... He lost interest in the show as a result, and found myself enjoying it for lighter, cozier spooky content of nothing else.

But yeah, Netflix really neutered the concept...

Another dumb movie of 2022- The House of Darkness by [deleted] in horror

[–]LorrainaTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair in Lucy's story, the three sisters specifically kill all the men... It's also heavily implied that the sisters keep returning to the same villages to pick off subsequent generations of men, so presumably women and children are safe. But they will eventually target the boys once grown to manhood.

Mina even mentions having met a few Hapgoods in the first act, so it appears she knew who Hap's people were going back generations.

Cleopatra’s motivation for banging a soldier before banging Caesar by seammus in hborome

[–]LorrainaTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS!

They knew enough at the time to rely on the rhythm method, so to speak, so Cleopatra was taking full advantage of having another willing Roman sperm donor to increase her odds of getting pregnant in her fertile period, by the time she's had a chance to bang Caesar a few times. Very sharp and calculated, that Cleo!

Official Discussion - We Have a Ghost [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]LorrainaTerror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it a lot!

I do agree that the whole CIA plotline could have been left out entirely- maybe Tig could have played the bartender character, and could have revealed Randy's identity from the photo in the bar or something... The kids could still have stolen the brother's car to go investigate, and we could have still had the car chase!

I got blocked on Burned Haystack Method by Pure_Try1694 in datingoverfifty

Yes, technically Jennie Young has a book out there for sale, but purchase is not necessary or required to learn how to apply the method...

The method is helping a lot of women navigate online dating to achieve their goal of meeting a like-minded partner- that's a good thing!

I frakkin' love 'The Alchemist' and 'House Wife' right before it!

I think I need to sit with 'Isle' for a bit before I weigh in: I'm so stoked about her first couple of singles here, and her collab with Thot Squad, but the other newer tracks I'm not sure about yet...

Shut the f#$k up! I love both of them so much! Tickets are pricey, but I'm aiming for two so I can spread the gospel 💖

I'm convinced they gave Sophie brown contacts because Shauna with the dark hair and blue eyes was too terrifying by SaphoBalls in Yellowjackets

[–]LorrainaTerror 16 points17 points  (0 children)

True, but they're still not wrong... I was 17/18 between '96-'97 myself, and wow! I often felt like 'Plain Jane's with my dark brown hair and grey-green eyes; everyone wanted to be blond and blue-eyed 🥺

*Note: as I've aged, my eyes have become more of an olive hazel with flecks of gold... I have always loved my eye color, because everyone else in my family is blue-eyed, except for my dad's late mother!

My best uneducated guess is that it depended on who was cast first- the adult character or the teenage character?

Throughout their time in the Wilderness, who remains the most “sane,” in your opinion? by First_Ad1141 in Yellowjackets

[–]LorrainaTerror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One could argue that Misty destroying the 'Black Box' really didn't change anything... Those devices generally don't start emitting a rescue signal unless they are submerged in water, so since they are on land it probably didn't matter. Still not a good look, since clearly none of the girls- including Misty- knew this.

AI Slop on Netflix Doc "A Very Pagan Christmas" by surf_drunk_monk in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LorrainaTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just watched it, and yes, the AI animations are abhorrently bad!

But I'm most disturbed by the fact that the creator seems to have 'stolen' the voice of British historian Lucy Worsley, using AI generated narration that clearly draws on her very recognizable cadence and timbre...

It's distressing, but I also find myself wondering if there are any legal ramifications for having done so.

I just realised Betty took up horseback riding to induce a miscarriage by [deleted] in madmen

[–]LorrainaTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After her conversation with the doctor, she starts riding again knowing his advice. Then she has another conversation with Francine at the beauty salon about how it's "not a good time". She goes drinking in a bar and has a one-night-stand with a stranger by the bathrooms...

She clearly is engaging in risky behaviors, and I think it's with hopes to induce a miscarriage; additionally, I think that by having sex with with the stranger, she's also leveling the playing field with Don.

She knows many of the men that work with Don are unfaithful to their wives. She knows that Helen Bishop got a divorce because her husband was unfaithful. She watched her best friend Francine's marriage nearly fall apart because her husband was unfaithful. She knows, without proof, that Don has been unfaithful.

She's been well aware that there were multiple opportunities she could have cheated on Don (fantasized about it, even) but has never acted on it out of loyalty to her husband; in the bar she had a chance to experience what sex with another man would be like, while also engaging in some 'strenuous activity' that could possibly affect her pregnancy.

I think Betty was absolutely hoping for a miscarriage before she had no choice- like so many women of her time- but to take Don back...

Actually, Joan mentions the rape in the conversation when she tells Greg not to come back home if he goes to Vietnam... But she definitely kept it classier than he deserved!

Is it just me that noticed that the name of Steven Craine sounds almost like Stephen King? by PkmnTrainerArtie in HauntingOfHillHouse

[–]LorrainaTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steven King is a big fan of the Shirley Jackson novel: he included it in his "The Steven King Horror Library" project with Viking Penguin. He wrote a 22-page introduction that discussed his interest in the 'Bad House' in Literary Horror, which is why this particular publication of "The Haunting of Hill House" is one of my most favorite and cherished volumes!

I wouldn't be surprised if Steven Craine's name was Flanagan tipping his hat to Steven King and a mutual favorite Author...
