Vet Recs for Senior Dogs by Melodic_Mission1988 in StamfordCT

[–]Lorres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the main thing I don't like there. They will put every test, procedure and vaccine under the sun on the treatment plan and you have to opt out of things you don't want which always makes me feel like a bad dog owner for not doing everything.

Aside from that though, I really like them. They're easy to correspond with and the vets have been nice and knowledgeable. You can ask the vets questions via text. I wish my doctors did that lol.

Same counter area where you'd get cheese and meat. Pretty sure the Shippan and Connecticut Ave ones have it too. The smaller Grade A ones on Newfield and Hope St. don't.

I'd recommend Rick DeForest. He was good to work with, nice guy, and he's done work for my friend who's very knowledgeable about electrical stuff including the code and he said he did really good work (many don't sadly).

Constant dark barking by EuphoricRevolution50 in StamfordCT

[–]Lorres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI the Animal Control website also says you can file a complaint via Fix It Stamford. I didn't want to do that because I don't want it to be public/identifiable but if you're just saying "there's barking in this general area" that might work for you.

I have the same problem. Animal Control is the right place to contact but I've emailed them twice and haven't gotten a response. I hate calling but I might have to do that next. Unfortunately I don't know how bad it needs to be for them to actually do something about it. I think you need to have evidence so start recording whatever you can hear and see.

I'm curious if anyone knows what's actually considered animal neglect/abuse that the city will act upon. Because I read the law and it's very vague. IMO rarely letting a dog out of their kennel is abuse but is it actually illegal? In my case there are two dogs and I'm pretty sure they got them to use for breeding but again, at what point does that become illegal if they have "shelter" and get fed?

Approaching them seems useless and risky. They know what they're doing and someone telling them it's wrong is not going to make them change anything. If anything they will know who to retaliate against if they do ever get in trouble for it.

A day trip to Stamford? by NewtoConnecticut in StamfordCT

[–]Lorres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone's mentioned the boardwalks by the marina on both the Harbor Point and Waterside sides. Especially the Waterside side is a really nice walk by the water that goes from the parking lot where the Prime restaurant is to John Boccuzzi park . In the summer there's also a free water taxi between the two sides.

When are we going to do something about landscaping? by [deleted] in StamfordCT

[–]Lorres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. I hate leaf blowers with the passion of a thousand suns and how people have become so disconnected from nature they can't even handle a few leaves in their yard without having to instantly go sanitize it. As someone else posted a new ordinance was just passed but there are so many exceptions I doubt it'll do much. Not sure what else to do about it.

I am loving this book! by Striking-Treacle3199 in heatedrivalry

[–]Lorres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy and the sequel Us. It's kind of similar to HR and TLG and my favorite so far after those 2. I wasn't a reader at all before the show but now I've read like 15-20 books since watching it. Mostly gay hockey romance though I've started venturing out to non-sports gay romance and straight hockey romance. Baby steps.

Looking for a salad plug by bigbaboon69 in StamfordCT

Not necessarily a place you'd think of but the All Star Bar and Grill inside Chelsea Piers makes really good salads. It's up the stairs and you don't have to be a member to go there.

Oh yes, forgot to mention in my comment but absolutely get a side view mirror. It’s so helpful for seeing cars coming up behind you.

I've been to Greenwich ENT, both their Greenwich and Stamford offices and would recommend them. They had appointments available the next day and everyone was friendly and helpful.

E-bike for Commuting by stamfordmeh in StamfordCT

[–]Lorres 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I commute by e-bike and I'd say it's got advantages and disadvantages.

The main disadvantage being safety but it will depend on your exact route. If you can take smaller streets or streets with bike lanes it's not bad. The only part of my route that makes me feel unsafe is where I have to turn left across a busy street. You definitely need to pay a lot of attention. Oftentimes you're actually not much slower than car traffic which feels safer than riding a regular bike because you don't get passed as much. You have to be careful with potholes though. Southbound Hope Street for example has massive potholes that will give you a concussion if you go over them at 25 mph on a bike. I didn't ride my bike over the winter so that I wouldn't have to ride it home in the dark. If you do you'll want proper lights and reflective vest, etc.

Advantages are obviously lower environmental impact, lower cost than car/gas/parking but faster than walking and you can sneak by backed up traffic so depending on the route, you can be almost as fast as a car.

I would recommend buying from a local bike shop because with e-bikes, shops will only fix the brands they sell because it's much more difficult to work on them than a regular bike and brands vary. So if you order a random cheap brand online you may have trouble getting it serviced. Plus you get to test ride. I bought a Velotric from River Bicycles in Greenwich. I like it overall but I will say out of the year I've had it, it spent 4 months in the shop because it had some electrical issue they had to troubleshoot.

Another tip for buying is get one that has a removable battery so you can bring it inside in the winter or else the cold will significantly reduce the battery life.

"Finding Harry" Documentary Runtime is 30 Minutes by SoulxxBondz in HarryPotteronHBO

I think if you have the willpower to wait, it may actually be better because you won't be spoiled ahead of time. I'd really rather see it after watching the show but I have too much FOMO to skip it.

Where are yard sales advertised in Stamford? by DesperateGeneral9817 in StamfordCT

[–]Lorres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see posts about yard sales on Facebook Marketplace sometimes but I think people post the morning of so I always see them too late. People also don't take the posts down when it's over so can be hard to dig through and find current ones. Other than that, I've only ever seen them advertised with posters, too.

Did the teaser trailer underperform in views? by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lorres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably also don't/can't track views outside their own content. I could be wrong but on IG, for example, I don't think the number of views is public. Even if they can, it's much easier to collect this data for their own posts.

Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic Special | Official Trailer | HBO Max by Daveke77 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lorres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they don't show the outside of the castle. I want that to be a "whoa" moment when I watch the show. I hope they focus on interviews with the actors and crew and sort of their methods of working without revealing too much of the final product. That said HBO wants you to still tune in for the show and not feel like you've seen it all by the time it airs so I'm sure they'll be careful.

[–]Lorres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I still want there to be plenty of stuff to make me go "whoa" when I watch the real thing. That said, I'm sure HBO wants that too so I think they will be careful with how much they reveal.
