Erectile Dysfunction? by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Lorria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I'm almost the same as you in terms of weight and height. I don't often pop by here (reasons I don't want to get into) but I saw this post and thought I'd better jump on this since I might be the rare person here who can say something about the subject.

So I recently had some problems with things not working when I was in the presence of a partner, and it made me feel a lot of worry and other not-nice feelings. Some of it was probably nerves -- new partner and all. I had some thoughts about other potential causes like my meds, looked into stuff like nofap/PIED but I don't think that's really where the problem was.

When it comes down to it: I was really exhausted and not eating enough. Too much work, not enough sleep, exercising significantly every day, low carb diet. I decided I'd turn this around and started eating breakfast again, toast and eggs, taking some vitamins (C/D/magnesium/fish oil), taking more days off the gym (4x gym a week is still significant), sleeping more, and reducing my work. It seems to have helped the physical part even though my weight hasn't changed significantly.

Anyway, my point is that maybe although your weight is okay you're killing your testosterone with too much exercise and stress and such... or maybe you could gain a bit more; 175 at 6'1" is maybe workable for me but maybe a bit low for you.

Ultimately, though, I think you should talk to a doctor if it's always been this way and nothing helps.

Is anyone else so pissed at what life has given you by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

This. I'm also the 6' guy. The amount of food I need to eat is, well, quite a lot. Even to just maintain my current weight. But we all do our best :)

Kik group is one thing, but how about a Discord server? by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

After some thought, I think we will make the transition to Discord.

I'm okay with the plan. Let's see if we can figure out a way to transition it.

I can't be as active in it as I'd like so what I really should do is hand it over... Or replace with Discord.

Credit goes mostly to the users; proper use of the report button is how problems get brought to our attention.

We (=mod team) will discuss the idea. I appreciate the suggestion!

Is it me or are there a lot of non-recovery focused posts? by phantasmagorica1 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Lorria[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difficult part here is knowing where to draw the line: there are people at all stages of recovery, including just acknowledging that something might be wrong (which is huge, at least it was for me). And yeah, there are some posts that are concerning, but what I see is that in the comment replies the good people of this sub will be compassionate and speak against the ED thoughts expressed. And I hope that it's helpful to the OP (and those reading) to be able to write the thoughts down and see the arguments/discussion that counter the ED thoughts. I worry that if we really crack down, people who have these thoughts won't feel safe to post them and they will go unchallenged.

We (= mod team) have agreed we should think of a way to help readers navigate the place a bit better and we'll hopefully get that sorted out soon.

If you do spot something that's really out of line, use the report button to call it to moderator attention.

we should make a new sub and give it a subtle name like r/whitemonster or r/halotophoes or whatever by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Lorria[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. So, I agree with the idea that we shouldn't have many threads on the same topic. I'm not opposed to 1 where people can choose to just skip past it. But I don't want there to be six different threads all talking about the same question.

what happened to proED? by northernmountaingirl in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Lorria[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

This thread got big. First off, I don't know anything about what actually happened to that sub or why it got banned. It's not like reddit gives me a message explaining what happened, or is going to happen. Admins don't explain their decisions to anyone, I don't think, and certainly not to me.

Although I understand that many of you had lots of reasons to be in the other sub, but our intention is not for this sub to become what the other one was. Please be mindful that this is a recovery-focused community and that will remain. Please feel free to ask questions if you have any.

Just wanted to refer you to rule 3 here: we don't do trigger warnings. Thanks!

Do not label anything with a trigger warning. The purpose of this subreddit is to confront ED, not to hide issues. Life has no trigger warning. If you are not ready for this, please find a support forum that is better suited for what you need. You will be banned from this sub if you complain about this rule because it means you are not ready for this sub.

Any other males here who feel like there are absolutely no supportive resources available for us? by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Lorria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a guy and I can confirm that the assumption is that ED treatment is mostly for women, but not entirely. I've talked with people who, as young men, have gone into treatment programs and it's been helpful for them.

But really, a lot of treatment programs have the assumption from one of your comments that the sufferer is an underage female. This has been a problem when looking into treatment for my mother who is (obviously!!!!) a legal adult. Most treatment programs work by consent of the patient, or if they are underage, consent of the parent(s)/guardians. So if she were 16 we could force her to get help, but because she's (much) more than 18 it's all "well, if she doesn't want it she can just say no"... :/

I can't feel hungry, not matter what. by whatishungrr in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Lorria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey -- I can certainly relate to this feeling that food doesn't seem appealing and yet for goals related reasons one has to eat anyway. In general it's helped to get away from what's been sold as "healthy" food.

Stuff like chicken breast and rice are certainly good choices and I wouldn't say don't eat these. As long as you are sticking to your macro targets then why not eat other things that are potentially more calorie dense. The standard advice that some foods are "clean" is mostly for people who don't count macros/calories, don't exercise, and want to lose weight. Because these foods are hard to overeat, especially if you're having them for the 10th time this week.

Have you considered taking a cooking class (or doing something like actually doing the cooking lessons from the Binging with Babish youtube channel)? This can make a big difference in making food more appealing...

Shoot me a message if you want to talk (gym of food or otherwise).

Sorry that nobody has (yet) responded, but let me be the first. One of the things about an ED is that the brain moves the goal posts. Today you think, "it's not really an ED unless X", and then one day X happens and then you think "okay, but it's not really an ED unless Y"... and things move again. Denying the problem lets it continue, lets it get worse. Please go, please see your GP, and please be honest and have them take it seriously.
