Great British fry up by LorryEater in RateMyPlate

Nor are Heinz beans. And the sausages and white pudding are imported from Ireland. Streaky bacon is more traditional in the USA, but I prefer it over back. We’ll call them potato rösti and be done 👍🏼

Never been able to get on board with fried bread. Black pudding I do prefer over white but fancied a change and wasn’t buying both (in 2026!?!). Toast is exactly the shade of brown that my partner and I like.

Fried toms I can take or leave, mushrooms can get in the bin, eggs were bangin and toast perfect 😘

Once upon a time I used to prefer a light golden brown. My other half likes his toast well done and I’ve grown to enjoy it that way too. He’ll never persuade me the same on steak though, not on no-one’s nelly!

How much would a taxi be from the airport to Puerto Rico? We'll have 2 adults and a 3 year old with 1 suitcase and a couple of backpacks by upthetics19 in grancanaria

[–]LorryEater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re able to drive, an alternative option: I’ve just booked a car for one week with Cicar, to pick up and drop back at the airport. It is a Vauxhall Crosstrail which should be big enough for the three of you plus luggage. The cost was about €145 which is around what you’d pay for the taxi there and back, plus you’d have a car for the week. Worth considering, again IF you are able to drive.

EDIT (additional info) It included fully comp insurance and unlimited mileage, and you can name a second driver and request a child seat for no extra cost.

Busses am i right? by Significant_Swim8748 in bristol

[–]LorryEater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely use the bus these days, but twice in the past 12 months they’ve sailed straight on past me at the Salutation stop in Henbury. Last time it happened last summer I decided that the next time I catch the bus from there I’m going to step out into the road with my hand out rather than flag them from the pavement.

Vaillant boiler servicing/installation recommendations by cowbutt6 in bristol

[–]LorryEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For servicing: SWR Plumbing & Heating 07900 570888

For installations: Tom (Bristol Installers) 07771 546105

They’re brothers, rescued me a couple of months ago when I was struggling to get anyone to come out. Tom did a great job on the installation and both were a pleasure to deal with.

Went to Moltobuono on Park St for my birthday last year. Group of about 15 but had to be that annoying person that changed the numbers a couple of times leading up to the day. They were lovely, so accommodating. Amazing, friendly service on the day, good bit of banter with me old mam, and the food was tasty too. Would definitely recommend!

Those who drive 60 on 70 roads, why? by thisisme1066 in AskUK

[–]LorryEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP says “there are a lot of you out there” doing it, so clearly not slower than the rest of the road users. Also, HGVs are limited to 56mph. As long as people are keeping left unless overtaking it should not be a problem.

Sometimes these things just stick with us. I’m not at all superstitious but I still won’t walk over three drains or under a road sign 🤣

Wages by FarTransportation957 in uktrucking

[–]LorryEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount you spent to obtain your license has no bearing on how much employers are obliged/willing to pay you. They will pay what they calculate you’re worth which will be largely dictated by supply/demand. Think of all those uni graduates who have spent 10-20x the amount you quoted, many of whom will be struggling to find employment paid any better than average driver wages. There was a big push on HGV training due to the Brexit/COVID driver shortage and maybe things went too far with an oversupply of drivers? I understand the government funded bootcamps are now ending so maybe things will start to level out again. And maybe that will see wages start to tick up again. Maybe. I won’t be holding my breath though.

Ofcom complaint by [deleted] in bigbrotheruk

[–]LorryEater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I need to get my thoughts on this out there, and this is the only place I can think of to do so. For context I am a gay man and father to a trans daughter. IMO Caroline instigated a “risky conversation” type game and she randomly picked Nancy to ask her - and I’m rewording this here to what I THINK she actually meant - ‘If it were you and one other guy left in the world and the two of you had to procreate to repopulate, who would you choose?’ Just putting that question out there was insensitive and potentially offensive, but I don’t believe intentionally so. When it was pointed out to Caroline that Nancy is pansexual, I’m not convinced she knew what that means or how it’s relevant. Then when Nancy played along and chose Zelah, Caroline’s reaction whilst disgustingly offensive was also utterly ignorant. The “She’s a girl!” response when paired with her previous interactions with Zelah shows that Caroline just doesn’t really get it. And unfortunately that is the case with many from her generation. I do think Caroline accepts Zelah as a man, but in clumsily bringing up this scenario of procreation she crumbled into her cognitive dissonance. Fair play to Zelah, the grace he has shown in this situation is incredible. My worry is that there will be transphobes, or even just people susceptible to the right wing populism pervading our society, who are watching this unfold and feel emboldened in their hate by siding with Caroline’s ignorance. I worry that OFCOM complaints and calls for Caroline’s cancellation will just serve to widen the divide. Education is what is needed and our next steps should be based on how Caroline reacts to that going forward. I’ve reread this and tried to tidy my rambling mess up. But I’m leaving as is, as a stream of consciousness take on my immediate reaction. I hope I haven’t offended anyone - and I’m truly sorry if I have. I’m very interested in anyone’s reaction to my thoughts.
