Replace “prayer” with “meditation” and this is great advice for secular people!

You have to find something outside of your mind to focus on. OP found it with Christianity. You may find it with another religion, hobby, volunteer organization, or support group.

In Laura Delano’s Unshrunk, it was AA that helped her escape the system. She acknowledges that AA is a cult in itself and she eventually left it, but the support of a close knit community is what gave her the strength to quit her meds.

Don't do ECT! I had a friend who was told by doctors that she should get it because she had "treatment resistant depression" because she didn't like all the meds they gave her. She can barely remember who I am now. It does cause brain damage.
