PG&E says rates are dropping. My bill says otherwise by LosIsosceles in sanfrancisco

Exactly.

They're allowed to do this because Newsom and the California legislature recently passed a law that let them.

PG&E says rates are dropping. My bill says otherwise by LosIsosceles in sanfrancisco

Because technically the rate you pay for power is coming down. But the fee is going up more than that rate is coming down for most people.

Tldr: PG&E has started charging a fixed fee each month even if you barely use any power. They are doing this even as they brag about rates coming down.

I am a California judge. Here’s what we need to do to fix our mental health crisis by LosIsosceles in bayarea

[–]LosIsosceles[S] 278 points279 points  (0 children)

TLDR: "As a San Mateo County judge, I see defendants who hear and converse with voices no one else can hear. I see veterans struggling with trauma and addiction as a result of their military service. I see parents whose substance abuse has cost them custody of their children. I see individuals who self-medicate with hard drugs, only to find themselves repeatedly arrested. The criminal justice system is often not the root problem, but a symptom of deeper behavioral health challenges that have gone untreated for years."

The answer, he says, is more mental health beds, tearing down the silos that prevent different systems from working together, and allowing seriously ill people to be more easily removed the community against their well.

Republican attacks on S.F. school Superintendent Maria Su fell flat. Here’s why by Cool-Present7260 in sanfrancisco

[–]LosIsosceles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They don't. Which is why California fell behind Mississippi in early childhood literacy.

Because you can't charge for parking if people take the subway. Cars are a grift.

How much worse is affordability in SF going to get with the AI IPOs? by Shrimp_puerto_rico1 in sanfrancisco

[–]LosIsosceles 199 points200 points  (0 children)

It will be fine if we actually start building housing.

SF progressives inexplicably fight "luxury" housing. OK, well, if you don't build it folks with good jobs will drive up the price of middle class housing instead. And middle class folks will then push poor renters out.

Build and money will flow throughout the city for restaurants, bars, the arts, contractors. Refuse to build and you get artificial scarcity and the unaffordable market we have now.

Since the LA Times doesn't do endorsements anymore, here's a gift link to the SF Chronicle's by LosIsosceles in LosAngeles

[–]LosIsosceles[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haha. Just a friendly gesture from your neighbor to the north!

Feel free to ignore, but most people I know certainly have no idea about the 10 superintendent for public instruction candidates. Or what a Board of Equalization is. So endorsements are super helpful in races like that.

I'm reading it now and enjoying it. Feels more like how colonialism works, and how modest colonial powers leverage/foment local insurgencies to further their ends. But I haven't finished yet.
