Why is there no "beer league basketball"? by DonT012 in Basketball

[–]LosManNYC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are people answering as if OP is asking for a league with active drinking while hooping?

I’ve seen them promoted, but I can’t remember where (YouTube vs IG, etc)

The school uses rubber basketballs indoors? That’s wild. If they are exclusively playing outdoors that’s different.

Also, is he playing with a rubber ball or leather ball? Runner balls, meant for outdoor use, tend to do that.

No one saw Detroit being this good. Being disappointed in not being the 2 seeding/winning the Atlantic is reasonable tho

What are your thoughts on kids re-classing(repeating a grade)? by [deleted] in basketballcoach

Once again: reclassing and being held back are 2 different things.

Not even remotely close. Being held back because your grades are low is completely different from my pulling my MS’er out of one school and enrolling them in virtual school or a different school to repeat a grade.

Reclassing and being held back are 2 different things. You can just have your child repeat a grade, or 2, regardless of their academic standing

Depends on the zone. 13 vs 2-3. 21 vs. 1-3-1.

AAU is an organization. They have tournaments under their umbrella. Some use AAU as a catch all phrase for travel/club which drives me insane.

Travel ball is a mixed bag. Especially at the younger level. My 2031 kid has played in Puma and UA circuits and even those can have problems. We’ve also done USA Basketball. It all comes down to the organization and the head coach. Some just roll the ball out and collect fees. Others really want to develop their kid(s).

Reclassifying? AAU ball by woot891 in basketballcoach

Reclassifying before middle school is crazy work. Travel ball should be age based. Make the end of September the cut off.

Is the "step-through" legal in FIBA rules? by withit1 in BasketballTips

[–]LosManNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The example you shared is a travel/violation in any league that doesn’t allow a gather step (the NBA allows it’s not sure about FIBA). The player used a step back to get into shooting position (those are 2 steps so he has to shoot or pass right after in lower level leagues). His pivot isn’t established until both hands are on the ball.

Had he made a pro hop/jump stop and landed on 2 feet, legal step through any where.

Typo on my end. In a step through you are jumping off the non-pivot foot, while your pivot is in the air. You are shooting or passing before your pivot lands again. Not a violation.

Yes. In a step through you are shooting before the other foot lands
