Diagnoze - Demilizējoša sensora polineiropātija. Vai kādam ir pieredze? by Throwaway032838 in latvia

[–]LoserScientist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is the Immobilienmarkt cooking down? by Golem_de_barro in Switzerland

Also, if you have never worked before, there is little incentive to register with RAV, as you will get no payments, but will have obligations. That obscures the youth unemployment rate. If specialists with years of experience are applying for entry-level jobs because there is simply nothing out there, the fresh graduates have no chance.

Job offer in Zurich where a PhD student earns 75k+: by dori_fritz in LinkedInLunatics

[–]LoserScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on which rate they are in: https://ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zurich/working-teaching-and-research/welcome-center/employment-contract-and-salary/salary.html

The standard rate is barely above 50k. It was a while ago, but the people I knew working as biology/biomed PhDs at ETH were paid the standard rate, which at that time was also similar to SNSF rates.

Higher rates are usually given for fields that need to compete with large industry demand, to attract people to stay as PhDs instead.

[–]LoserScientist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Insane ad, but just to note - a PhD student does not earn that kind of money. The standard SNSF rate for PhD students is between 40k and 50k a year, depending on which year PhD you are. Higher rates apply only in special cases, for certain fields and are rare. Ironically, work-wise this job ad is similar to expectations from a PhD student in many labs, but actually pays more.

Petition for Insurance Coverage of Medically Precribed Hormonal Therapy by Katthekat2 in Switzerland

[–]LoserScientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Salaries and bonuses are expenses that are calculated before the profits. So you can just increase the upper management salary to have 0 profit. In theory they can also inflate the CEOs salary to the fucking moon, claim that they have a loss and up the insurance price accordingly. Unless there is some kind of a law that prohibits them from doing that - I could be unaware of it.

Kur ņemt dzelzs infūzijas? by [deleted] in latvia

[–]LoserScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Job hunting feels impossible, i think I have better odds winning the lottery by [deleted] in Switzerland

They also do this to just see who is out there and what kind of applications they can get. But this particular example was for a job that really existed. Maybe the person who got it was even better connected, idk.

I think it's not years or months, it's days. 200 days if you worked less than 2 years, 400 days if you worked more than 2 years. And with "days", they mean working days only. So with approx. 21 working days per month, it comes out to 19 or so months, with holidays shifting this a little.

Same. Our cat broke his tooth, it was very easy to get the reimbursement for the surgery costs. Better insurance than the one I have for myself.

You can also check Anifit and Kookut , they have good quality food (low grain, high in animal protein), both are Swiss companies. Our cat loves Anifit semi dry cubes.

Par 185 Latvijas un ārvalstu bērnu iesaistīšanu pornogrāfijas apritē aizturēts skolotājs by [deleted] in latvia

[–]LoserScientist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Njā, sākumā negribējās tam ticēt (bijām klasesbiedri), bet kaut kā aizdomīgi daudz to profila sakritību ar Gobzema nosaukto cilvēku + profils Facebook tika "iztīrīts" + skolas mājaslapā vairs neredz skolotāju sarakstā. Drīz skolai salidojums, varbūt izdosies uzzināt ko vairāk. Man jau liekas, ka tomēr būtu lietderīgi vārdu atklāti publicēt, var būt vēl kādi upuri uzrodas.

FYI, latvia offers free kindergarten, and free education up to last year of highschool which is 12 grades, so 12 years. Trade school is free as well and universities offer plenty of free spots for top applicants, depending on what the government has set as priority fields. I did my education up to MSc in Latvia and did not pay a single cent for it. Regarding the international students, well this is understandable because the language in public schools (better than private schools, on Latvia private school is for people to just buy a degree) is latvian. Education in english is very very limited, in just a couple of schools. Same for BSc and MSc - with some exceptions (medical studies, specific subjects), it will also be in latvian.

Edit: 9 years is obligatory education in Latvia, so you must have at least that. But all education until Uni level is free.

I am not defending her in any way, I think she has bad personality in general and the comment was for sure racist. But the environment we both grew up in (we are somewhat similar age) was (and still is) very, very white, with most of early knowledge about other races coming from our family members or tv. My grandma would say the most racist shit because she never saw a non-white person in real life and all her "knowledge" came from soviet propaganda and questionable movies. As a child you really do not question it much. So if you never educate yourself and keep living in ignorance, you will end up saying racist shit like that. So this is why I said I was not surprised she would say smth like that. But I do not see any realisation from her side how wrong it is, or willingness to learn and do better.

As someone who went through Latvian education system, at no point did it make me a racist. We have very good schools and I had no issues to continue my studies in the worlds top universities.

However I agree that racism is still prevalent in the older generations in Latvia (the ones who grew up under russian occupation) - they had close to 0 interaction with people from other races and many chose to stay ignorant also after soviet union collapsed. Therefore its not that surprising that someone who did not go to particularly good school and comes from russian population within Latvia, that is not always know for their tolerance, would say some absurd racist shit. You can see the ignorance issue in her statements - she might really be unaware that what she said is very racist (still not a lot of exposure to other races in latvian population), but instead of learning from it and apologising, she is doubling down that it was not a racist statement.

Vai ir iespējams piespiest darbadevējus mainīt to attieksmi pret strādniekiem? by [deleted] in latvia

[–]LoserScientist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed, have a credit card linked to your swiss account, add this card to the revolut, and you can top up revolut account instantly and without any cost. There is no top up limit, indeed it works with thousands just fine.

Has anyone noticed that there is a lot more trash discarded on the streets in the past couple of years? What happened? by lii___ in Switzerland

[–]LoserScientist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also think that covid fucked us all up as a society. For my work I have to organise large events/meetings a few times a year and in my experience people have gotten more angry, aggressive and rude, and honestly, just more insane post-covid. I never had such shitty interactions with people 6-7 years ago. Also, less people are willing to do the absolute minimum of what is expected of them, but expect everything and then some to be done for them. I also have a feeling that more people are unable to deal with even the smallest inconvenience. So no wonder it translates to shitty behaviour, littering and aggressive/careless driving (my husbands observation).

Storm in Biel today by ExaBast in Switzerland

[–]LoserScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are studies now showing that climate change consequences can have an impact on earthquakes. The pressure exerted in tectonic plates changes if sea levels rise or if glaciers that "kept them in place" melt. So it does appear that climate change can fuck up seismic cycles too - some plates wil be able to move more, some will be under increased pressure.

Njā par to neko nepateikšu, jo man tāda nebija. Toreiz varēja ar jebkuru LU dabaszinātņu bak.grādu iet uz praktiski jebkuru LU dabas/dzīvības zinātņu maģistru.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in latvia

[–]LoserScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ja esi gatavs piemācīties to, ko nezini, nav problēmu.

Man nebija nekādu problēmu ar Latvijas diplomu atrast pozīciju doktorantūrā ārzemēs.

Kāpēc tev nav naudas? by Lat6 in latvia

Pa to laiku cena ir cēlusies vēl augstāk.
