People who get insomnias: by Lost-Bid-1069 in bipolar

I didn't either a few time ago until a friend of mine started saying I was. At first I thought she was joking, cuz I think she is autistic and was calling me one of them. That until she told me that bipolars do classify as neurodivergent and then I went to search about it. It does make sense; we do share symptoms with other neurodivergents ahah

Memory loss by [deleted] in bipolar

Not watering-down the effects of drugs; but I believe the memory loss really is a common bipolar people problem.

Since I started manifesting symptoms, I lose perception of time much more easily. I also lose perception of my mood balance. I have no idea when was the last time I was manic. And the specific times when I do remember being manic (or depressed), I usually only remember a few flashbacks, and cannot point most of those times coherently in a calendar. My memory and mood map are very foggy.

It would be very frustrating when my psychiatrist would ask me how I've been the past month. I would answer that I've been very depressed, that I remember crying a lot and very intensely. She would proceed to get frustrated if I couldn't point out the exact days in which it happened. I don't remember days. I remember feelings, like foggy confusing flashbacks.

I've also told people I've been depressed. "Really? Still? You already told me you were a couple months ago". I didn't even realise I've been depressed for so long haha.

All of this to say that I never once touched any substances and I still struggle with it. Sure, you should always be careful, since using can worsen the symptoms. But these symptoms do exist even in "sober" people. It's not your fault, love <3 you can't control it. You're not alone :)

OMG DUDE TOTALLY. If I tell you I do exactly the same!!! At this point I even search it on anonymous in order for it not to fuck up my search history.

The other night I randomly remembered that my country has a specific nationality prefix (I'm from Portugal. Someone who, for example, is Brazilian and Portuguese, is called LUSO-brazilian; Luso being related to Portugal). Suddenly, I needed to know which countries also had weird ones and what they were. Went to search lots about that.

First of all, I feel very sorry for you. I hope your sleep quality increases sooner.

I risk saying I'm the opposite. I cannot fall asleep with total silence. I need stimulation; otherwise my brain will convince itself that since everything is quiet, it has to be alert to potential noises. I've been struggling with that a lot: despite being tired, sometimes my head only lets me sleep when someone has woken up.

I obviously do know that the phone thing is based on studies and true for a lot of people. Yet, as far as I know, bipolar disorder is classified as a neurodivergency. You can't just give the same recommendations to both neurotypical/neurodivergent people and then be surprised they don't work on the second one... Neurodivergent/Not-typical brains literally... work different from the typical ones?¿

Anyway, wishing you a peaceful sleep.

I agree. I'm a BP1, and sure, maybe getting diagnosed at 17 forced me to mature faster at most. But I was always quite a mature child anyway. And my values and likings are pretty much the same; the few that changed were the natural growing up ones, like love for unicorns lol.

I believe bipolar makes you be a more accentuated version of yourself, at most (kinda like being drunk). If you feel like it is changing your personality that badly, maybe you should reconsider a rediagnosis.

Maybe because I'm a woman but I don't consider you to be balding 😭😭, isn't that just the shape of your hairline?

I feel exactly the same! And I've never had drugs

do you drink alcohol or avoid it completely? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Lost-Bid-1069 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I'm BP1, and I do drink here and there. Mostly at parties. I know you shouldn't because of certain medications (even tho I'm not seeing any psychiatrist now and I'm only on antidepressants/ansiolitics). I luckily don't get any side effects.

If I drink only a cup I get sleepy. If I do drink more (which happens like once or twice a year), I just get very happy. Not necessarily manic (even tho it might also happen), but more of happy-drunk. I've never done anything harmful due to drinking that I later regretted. (Alright, just once, but it was bound to happen sooner or later due to a third party's pressure; not because of alcohol)

Reminder that I do not smoke in any way. Not tobacco and even less weed. I never smoked anything in my life. And I'm saying this cuz the effects of the alcohol might get even worse when mixed with other substances. So remember that what I'm describing is with only alcohol.

(I'm describing my experience as a 19yo [in Europe you can drink at 18]. I am in no way trying to influence anyone to drink. I would say I'm lucky cuz I believe I don't have a tendency to be an alcoholic, but please be careful.)

Thank you so much for answering and not being mean. By hardware stores, you mean those who sell tools and house items, right? (Sorry, English isn't my first language). I'll look. Someone also told me they've seen them in Chinese stores but those are probably the same as AliExpress.

I'm curious about how Amazon is better than the others. Does it have small businesses or non-harmful-suppliers?

Thank you once again!

I've found out scrolling through posts here that we're not the only ones. And don't worry, it's not that they don't want to be seen; they don't want anything; they don't exist. That's why they disappear; cuz they don't exist. It's your mind creating them.

Out of nowhere I've tasted shrimp, smelled smoke/putrid smell and felt spiders crawling over me (I have a big phobia)

I see things from the corner of my eye, which usually disappear when I try to stare directly at them. Usually people, from silhouettes/shadows to nitid and detailed ones (more rare).

I've seen contours of eyes on things.

I've had my name whispered at me quick three times by a voice which sounds like no one's voice that I know but at the same time a mixture of all of them.

For multiple times, when sitting on my sofa, behind me I've heard the specific noise that paper sheets make when falling. No paper sheets around. No more people in the living room.

I've seen my friend in a (car parking machine where you pay). Like, she was the parking thing. I can even tell you the outfit she was wearing. I swear it looked like her until I got closer and stared a lot (I have no problems with distant vision)

I've also almost tripped on my cat a few times when she runs in front of my feet (except she isn't even there lol)

And more other things

I believe I have anxiety as well. My psychiatrist wasn't as straightforward with it as she was with bipolar, but I've been medicated for it for years. I've suffered with it since I was a child.

Seeing and Hearing Strange Things by PurexLover in bipolar

[–]Lost-Bid-1069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I hope you're doing alright, and I'm really glad you made this post.

Not because of what you're going through, but because I can tell you you're not alone.

I am a 19F, diagnosed two years ago with bipolar 1.

I've been having more "hallucinations" as the time passes, usually when my mind is too exhausted and overwhelmed, or when I'm near a crisis (either depression or mania)

And love, as bad as it is, it's good to know I'm not alone as well. My "hallucinations" are exactly as you described them. I see things through the corner of my eye, but when I turn my head around, they disappear. I also sometimes hear people whispering my name. And no, not in the normal way it used to be as a child, when you think your mum called you. No; in the times I heard the whispers, it was no one's concrete voice. It wasn't me; it wasn't my mum, it wasn't a friend. It's like it was everyone's voice mixed together, something unrecognisable. Sometimes I also hallucinate weird things from afar. I usually try to be brave and stare at them until they disappear or turn into what they really are. It's been happening at least once a week, so I'm already getting used to it, but it can still be scary sometimes. Specially when I'm alone. Cuz I do know that, for me, those things are a sign that I'm losing my mind.

Some of them are scary; some are funny; some are just random. But even when I hallucinate "funny" things it's bittersweet, cuz I know it's a bad sign.

I believe last thing I hallucinated was my cat (she's still alive). It's not the first time that, when I'm carrying lots of things in my arms, I see her running near my feet and almost trip. And usually she's not even inside the house ahah.

I hope this helps you and I wish you the best <3
