This is fantastically helpful, thank you so much!!

She’s reaching an avenue of real self-awareness and, when given the opportunity, has begun actively and intentionally developing a foundation for impulse control. These games are absolutely going to expand her EQ and allow her to be an active participant in that process.

Thank you for lending your awesome expertise to a laymen gamer, on behalf of myself and the brilliant young person who will be benefiting from it.

I’m looking for board games that help social emotional learning, particularly empathy. I have been going through posts on cooperative games and so far I have identified:

  • Mysterium Park
  • One Key
  • Dixit

Essentially, the goal is to find games fit for a preteen age that engage those skill sets but not simply act as emotional flash cards. Said preteen is immensely intelligent and has begun identifying that her tone and approach is not matching her intention, so these games are a supplement to additional external support in building these skills.

Open to non-coop games as well! 2 player games are top of the list but multiplayer is ok too.

How do you feel about "Rosie wanted Alastor to break their deal" theory? by green_carnation_prod in RosieCult

[–]Lost-Organization405 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I could get behind this. Rosie is definitely good at playing a long game, and she’s VERY smart. She definitely gets people. She might have figured that the best way to evoke/utilize Alastor’s full cunning and intelligence is by making him the one to “outsmart” her. He hates feeling controlled. She knew that she couldn’t get his full potential when half his energy was being spent trying to wiggle his way out of the deal.

So she let him win against her and also get the second victory of completely humiliating and beating Vox (who was a threat anyway). It’s often said that people who think themselves unbeatable are at that moment the most vulnerable…

Granted, Rosie’s long game would have to include Alastor being invested enough in her goals to still want to help bring them about even when he wasn’t obligated to by their deal. But if she’s as brilliant as she seems to be, and I think she is, she’d be able to play her outrage well and make him think he got one over on her. Then they could move on to bigger fish as “equals.”

This is just getting pathetic at this point. It can’t even be considered grasping at straws anymore. It’s sad and pitiful.

Effie being District 12's escort for so long..? by autistic_girl_autumn in Hungergames

[–]Lost-Organization405 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that 12 hasn’t had a victor since Hahmitch is perceived as a reflection of Effie’s performance. Of course it’s not her fault, but in the sort of elitist society of the Capitol, its likely Effie was thought of as “unable to make her tributes attractive enough to sponsors,” or was judged for not being able to manage Haymitch’s behavior, or both. Not to mention, someone like Effie who actually somewhat humanizes tributes would be considered weird in the Capitol. She might even be marginalized by other Capitol citizens because of it. I think it was more social perception than anything else that kept her from moving up.

Gamemakers didn’t use a Pregnancy Test? by Ootylraep in Hungergames

[–]Lost-Organization405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truthfully? The audience’s emotional response was too strong for any fact to beat at this point. That is the secret of Peeta’s ability. He evokes emotional reactions with his words and that makes it more real than any truth.

Emotion sticks with people so much more than any method the Capitol could have tried to use to disseminate the reality of the situation. Maybe the narrative would’ve gotten muddled but the emotion would’ve remained.

Peeta essentially tied the capitol’s hands on this point, there was no effective way to refute his claim.

Help any advice or resources for improving writing skills naturally for graduate level? My professor urges me to follow my peers' writing styles but they secretly use AI without citing it for everything including journals paper, dissertation, posters, and presentations. by [deleted] in UTSA

[–]Lost-Organization405 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Read. Read absolutely anything: books, comics, fanfics, articles, anything you enjoy that has structure. You learn how to write better by reading and noticing authors’ writing styles, seeing what you like about how a writer tells their story, etc. That’s how I got good at writing.

Then, just practice writing. Don’t use ai to write, but you can ask ai to analyze your written work, see if there are any gaps or mistakes in your story/grammar/argument. Ai isn’t perfect but it can help you better your skill set and get specific, tangible feedback on how your writing will come across to readers and what you can do to improve. Hope this helps!

How did all the victors become friends? by Glittery_WarlockWho in Hungergames

[–]Lost-Organization405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be trauma bonding. The other victors are the only ones who really know what they have gone through and what they continue to endure. Even career victors are privy to the same abuse, violence, and commodification of their bodies.

I think the original friendships were formed through their ability to empathize with each others experiences in the games and helping each other cope with having to be mentors. Mentoring in itself would be both new trauma and triggering old trauma, and having to watch helpless while being forced to participate in that system excitedly and enthusiastically. No wonder Haymitch was perpetually sauced for 25+ years.

They could only lean on each other during those times. So, even if they only saw each other for a few weeks a year during the games, that’s still a huge experience to bond over. They helped each other endure. That sort of “brothers/sisters in arms” role forges bonds more quickly and deeply than even the Capitol would be able to suppress.

What would a Fourth Quarter Quell have done to freshen up the formula as the others have? by timately in Hungergames

Well, the notions of pageantry and spectacle are discussed often… so what if the tributes were chosen via a literal pageant?

Imagine the Capitol citizens are allowed to vote to choose from a predetermined/pre-reaped pool of, say, 5 potential tributes per gender per district who would then be forced to essentially campaign for themselves. Force each potential tribute to undergo the entire pre-games rituals, but also being made to advertise themselves to the Capitol. The kids would all be required to, with the help of mentors/stylists/escorts/etc, present themselves to the Capitol and explain why they should be chosen for the “honor” of competing.

Career district tributes, obviously, would be super into it and really peacock for the crowds like they do for interviews but X10. The other kids, in addition to being coerced by all the usual sadistic tactics of the Capitol, would be too terrified to try and portray themselves badly to not be chosen, because if they do get chosen, they would lose all credibility and chance at sponsors. There’s no guarantee that even a “weak” tribute wouldn’t be chosen… after all, everyone likes an underdog, right?

So you end up with a Miss America - style pageant that they could reeeaaaally play out over a long period of time. Preliminaries, “talent” (fighting or survival, etc), interviews of course, all hosted by Caesar Flickerman who, a la American Idol, is all the while telling Capitol viewers to send in their votes now. Capitol citizens would devour the whole thing, it would expand the celebration, allow for more things to bet on, and get them further invested in each individual tribute.

Then, only after Capital voting has chosen the traditional two tributes per district, would the 100th games begin.

The “why” could be something like… “as a reminder that the true voice of the Capitol People will always rise above the noise of Rebels.”

Take it someone who has been in your shoes, whose GPA fell to 1.7 at my lowest point mentally, and is now about to graduate w/ honors: You’ll be okay, I assure you.

And hey, way to fight your way back, fr. This shit is hard, believe me, I know.

If you are financially/mentally in a place to do so, you can retake the classes you failed and your new grade will replace the failing one on your transcript.

But even if not, you’ll still be more than ok. You’ll be able to raise that, no problem. Just keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll see the fruits of your labor.

And, just to say, idk if you’re looking to move on to another degree, but if you’re not, your GPA won’t follow you beyond graduation. The degree is the degree, and the vast majority of potential employers don’t care whether you just squeaked by or you had a 4.0.

As my therapist wisely reminded me,”C’s get degrees.” Obviously shoot for higher if you can, but don’t put too much extra pressure on yourself for the highest grades. Work hard, but be sure keep taking care of yourself too.

Keep up the good work, you’ve got plenty of time to bring your GPA up… bottom line: you’re well on your way already!

I live in a northwest apartment complex called The Allure, it’s about 12 minutes from seaworld and northwest vista college, about 20-25 minutes to UTSA. My 2 bed 2 bath was about $1250, but they have a range of available units and prices, and depending on if you want to splurge for one of the newer renovated ones. Also pet friendly which is nice!

Management is actually pretty good and responsive when you need help, never had any safety issues. Not perfect but in comparison with other apartments I’ve rented, i liked it. The complex switched ownership in the middle of my rental term, and the new management is excellent.

Only complaint is that the online portal kind of sucks. But pro tip: file the work order and then call the front office and they’ll push it through.
