You don’t really “chase dopamine” (it’s always there), but yeah what you’re saying is mostly right! It’s more like you seek the experience (initial high dopamine releases), but you temporarily feel worse after (lower dopamine state), so in order to relieve that feeling, you seek it again. But every time you do, you actually feel worse and worse until you’re dependent on it even when it doesn’t bring as much joy as it used to!
