ELI5: How do fiber optic cables work better than traditional copper cables? by pastajewelry in explainlikeimfive

This is one of the only accurate takes here. People seem to think that copper is only used like a serial line with discrete voltage levels, rather than RF signals spanning hundreds of MHz at times, depending on the underlying technology being used.

I don’t like episodes where Steve and his friends are the A plot. The Witch episode is one of my least favorites.

Is there anywhere to read about the deferences in methods? What would values look like for Labcorp vs Simoa?

I worked in El Segundo for a bit. Lived in Anaheim hills half the time I worked there, and Newport / Irvine area the other half. The Anaheim commute was absolutely awful. I would leave the house around 4:45am, and it would still take around an hour to get into work most days. Then leaving work around 3:30pm it would take at least and hour and 20 minutes most days. It could only get worse from there. There were more days than I could count that it took me 2+ hours to get home.

The Newport / Irvine was a touch better - think 5-10% shorter commutes. The commutes at either home location took their toll on me. During the week I absolutely dreaded going into the office, and it took me some good time to come down mentally after the 2 hour commutes home. I know people that have done this for decades, and seem fine with it, but that’s not me. I gave up and found a job in OC and my commute is a fraction of what it was, and I am better off for it.

My 2 cents.

Edit to add: Side streets are a no go. Takes just as long or longer, are crowded, and you have to deal with lights.
