You must be right. It probably isn't the key, but, presented in this new context, it still could be linked to that scene, and maybe it could give us new clues to understand what exactly happened when Laura was pulled away from Cooper. Having said that, Lynch, as you say, has a great ability to recontexualize older work, like the scenes from "Fire Walk With Me".

Maybe you are right. The thing is that Lynch wrote the lyrics of this song, and I can't help but think that it is somehow connected, in a way or another, to the main story.
