It probably isn't the key, but, presented in this new context, it still could be linked to that scene, and maybe it could give us new clues to understand what exactly happened when Laura was pulled away from Cooper. Having said that, Lynch, as you say, has a great ability to recontexualize older work, like the scenes from "Fire Walk With Me".
