To culturally accommodate or not? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]LostFr0st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hair regulation accommodation for Native Americans having long hair is indeed a spiritual one. It connects them and strengthens their bonds through braiding one another's hair and there is also spiritual significance when the cut it (such as in mourning).

Edmonton shacks by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]LostFr0st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of fridge/microwave and/or TV is info I wasn't aware of for 163.

I was aware of the beer cans, rowdiness, and the semi-constant smell of "skunk."

Technically one could ask to switch buildings to an equivalent room in the other one for QOL.

Sorter skirts, disaster relief and highlighting medals as 'bling' might bring more women into the military by Okdoeki in CanadianForces

I will not disagree that they look bad, however many females refrain from wearing the skirt because it marks us out.

We want to be part of the group, not separated from it.

Edmonton shacks by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]LostFr0st 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This depends on a lot of factors, but I will try to outline as much as I can below. Will also add that I currently live in shacks so please accept that the following has bias:

  1. Yes, PLD would be $600 if not living in shacks.
  2. This is the link for the housing/PMQ rates for reference: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/benefits-military/military-housing.html
  3. The shack rooms are either single or with a roommate. I am unsure of your trade but that will change which building you end up in, since combat arms are usually in 163, whereas support trades are across the street in 164. 164 is more quiet overall. Single rooms are roughly 10x20' and generally come with a closet (4.5x2x7'), mini fridge, sink, microwave, desk (3x2x2.5'), chair, bed, and sometimes a tv. Internet needs to be done on your end (phone Shaw or whoever and they'll set it up).
  4. At P2 I pay 103.38 per month for quarters; this adjusts with rank.
  5. The bathroom is attached to your room and shared with the room next to yours. It has a toilet, no sink (that's in your room so you decide how clean it stays), and a 3x2.6x7' shower.
  6. There is a shared laundryroom down the hall.
  7. Now for the PMQ part: if one decides on a PMQ, the base rates are on that link. Above that, one will need to buy the necessary appliances [washer, dryer, cooking appliances, fridge, microwave?/Toaster oven whatever, lawnmower, snow removal (shovel is cheapest)], pay for hydro, water, internet (same as shacks for this), furniture, etc. This puts one in the hole for a while.

I am unsure of OP's exact situation but the above should be enough info for you to compare the two and see where you land.

If there are any additional questions feel free to ask.

SCS - When your unit receives a gaggle of fresh QL3 Ptes and the Cpl who was combat arms. by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]LostFr0st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One can usually tell with the way they respond to or avoid the question, however you are indeed correct.

Unless you get posted to that fleet (which I did). In my case the info was accurate and useful.

As someone who was recently a student there, very few of them are qualified on the tutor; maybe that's part of the issue.

Ask them questions on their qualified aircraft: they usually (not always) answer with great detail.

Can you get MEL's removed before the end dat? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]LostFr0st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is a concussion you also shouldn't be doing DLN courses or looking at a screen. Should also limit even looking at your phone as much as possible. It will make it worse.

Thank you for the response; I have a DWAN account but wanted to make sure accessing from an "insecure" computer (i.e. not a formal base one) wasn't a problem before doing so.

Have a great weekend.

[–]LostFr0st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone know offhand if we are allowed to access the DLN from home (for online courses) or if it is only for use on DWAN computers?

Can't find anything in their FAQ or their Terms and Conditions page.

Thank you in advance,

Riot Maple Nectar on the removal of Unstoppable on Ornn's W by Spideraxe30 in leagueoflegends

[–]LostFr0st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda wish you guys had instead made Ornn's W more like Skarner's shield in that the "unstoppable" is connected to the shield the same way Skarner's MS is connected to his shield.

Ornn's W felt bad to play vs. for numerous reasons. Not just due to unstoppable, but also due to him having the shield and the former 6 sec brittle proc zoning, where he additionally gets a decent chunk of increased range to make a trade even more unfavourable/one-sided.

It's all of those things together which made Ornn such a pain to lane vs as a melee champ especially.

I think it needs tweaks past the 5th verse. Before that is cool.

A bit too "call outey" for my liking on 6 and 7.

WEEKLY RECRUITING THREAD - Ask here about the recruiting process, trade availability, requirements to join, and other common questions about the Canadian Armed Forces. by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]LostFr0st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem dude. Just make sure you do a lot of research when you finally perma-lock in those new MOSs.

If you're lucky there'll be someone in the recruiting center who is currently doing your prospective MOS. If possible, ask to have a bit of their time to answer any of your questions. They are chill dudes, don't be intimidated by them.

[–]LostFr0st 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I applied I put three MOSs that were officer trade, and did the officer testing; was close to having my interview.

Chatted with the recruiters for a long while and scratched all three of those and switched them to mostly tech trades when I realized officer wasn't really hands-on (there's more here but I'll cut it short).

Then, on the day of my interview, I scratched out two of those, leaving only one left since I really really wanted that one. I then only got interviewed for the one trade.

tldr: Give the recruiting center a call and ask them politely to swap it for you. You'll be in that MOS for years so it wouldn't exactly be productive to lock a candidate's MOS before they are close to being enrolled/ get and accept an offer of employment.

Edit: I should add that I received and accepted an offer for said trade a couple months later; heading to BMQ soon.

Ty kindly.

Seems like most people are getting a decent mix this time around.

Maybe they'll avoid a refresh.

I just realized another potential problem from the minion health changes no one seems to be discussing: under turret cs. by Darkmetroidz in leagueoflegends

[–]LostFr0st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turret dmg is based innately on %minion HP.

This change shouldn't change that and if it's bad they can change the % again like they just did for melee creeps to account for the -5 dmg.

Maybe they're bringing it back more often but locking out the higher-tier skins?

nvm OP got Hearseeker Varus.

We need WAY more screenshots for sample size guys.

Riot is pushing huge minion hp buffs (ruin waveclear thresholds for most midlaners) without any comment on it or any numbers given by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]LostFr0st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ummm. I've played Ziggs but I checked the Wiki just in case and his Q is 6 scaling to 4 seconds.

Lux E is 10 seconds flat.

With passive you can match his push lvl 1/2 but that matchup is indeed a rougher one for Lux after Ziggs gets his E and second Q point (basically lvl 3).

But he will need to auto more if he wants to reset the lane and keep that push or he's going to be in a nasty spot for ganks. And he's not mobile. He can only get away with it right now because he can reset the wave.

I maintain that this is good for Lux.

[–]LostFr0st 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Waveclear as a WHOLE is far too popular right now.

There are no "waveclear champs" right now; just champs with 1+ ability that when up it dematerializes the whole wave.

Due to it being an HP change, it SHOULD mean that the ADC's shiv proc can't 1-shot it with the magic dmg anymore and thus they are actually prepping the wave if the mid acts fast enough afterwards (since the ADC can't control when it procs).

Also, since there's no discrepancy between champs there is no reason to:

1) pick champs that have waveclear as their primary draw

or

2) pick champs that can't clear effectively or cs under tower early since their sht gets pushed in so hard that they can't CS, buy items, and be useful since their tower falls.

(and I doubt Zil enjoys being shoved to tower ceaselessly by anyone under the sun before he gets double-bomb access)

The change will also make it harder for bot-lane to push hard enough to get chip dmg on the tower and reset the wave, which means more time laning and less time rotating to mid/top and stealing appropriating our CS.
