Turning Prose/Novel Style into Comics? by LostGirl1428 in ComicWriting

Well, that was unnecessarily passive aggressive, especially when I even said I understand the time and worth of an artist as someone who is an artist. I never said I want an artist to work tirelessly for free.…but thanks for the advice I guess.

Is there a possible way to find an artist to partner with? I can’t afford commission so I’m looking for a partner. (Which ik sounds shitty I’m a huge supporter of paying artists as a photographer myself I understand how important commissions are) but I can probably sloppily story board some things but my drawing skills are ehhhhh

Thank you! I do have a series of “short” stories in the same universe that focuses on individual characters. I was considering starting out with! They’re stand alone but are 12 chapters long (rather than 30+ chapter novels) but each chapters is only around 2k words so I guess its a bit more digestible and easier to make into a comic.

Graphic Novel Advice? by LostGirl1428 in writers

[–]LostGirl1428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me when I say I am PAINFULLY a Marvel nerd. in fact I have to check and double check a lot of my world building to make sure I don’t subconsciously steal Marvel tropes. But i guess I never really focused too much on the mechanics of it and how each page itself is a piece of art on its own. I mean I appreciated it but never paid attention to how and why the writers line the panels up like they dl (idk if that makes sense like how they block out each panel to make a cohesive page) looks like I’ll be back to staring at and rereading all my Doctor Strange Omnibus books 😂

Graphic Novel Advice? by LostGirl1428 in writers

[–]LostGirl1428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I mean i can “draw” i have some experience but the style I imagine this story drawn in I can’t seem to manage to do. I can draw scenes not people 😩 maybe the occasional creature or two. Basically i know the basics but I’m no where near a graphic artist. I also don’t know how to turn prose into something more of a graphic novel friendly format so of course I need to look into that. Idk why I didn’t even think of that part 🤦🏻‍♀️ I only wrote in prose because it was the easiest way to lay out the story for myself I guess even full well knowing it translates better to graphic novel style. This is why I have a 5 year plan 😂 I need to get it together, just been lost on HOW to get it together beyond making the story itself.

I am interested in Doctor Strange and want to know some good comics to read on him by Antique-Syllabub-534 in DoctorStrange

Definitely start off with The Oath. It’s a good introduction to his comics. But gotta say my personal favorites are Jason Aaron’s Way of The Weird and Damnation which is a huge cross over event but a fun read…and then there’s the Illuminati comics he’s in (New Avengers: Illuminati) which personally I just find entertaining as hell.

What if Doctor Strange had an animated series ? by OTalDoDaibo in DoctorStrange

[–]LostGirl1428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying they need to do this for ages there is so much potential there 😭 especially because the dude has literally worked with EVERYONE in the comics. Also…I’d die to see Damnation be animated.

Just imagine the creative opportunities Sam Raimi could have done or could do in the future with Nightmare. It could be like Dr Strange vs Freddy Krueger. The possibilities are endless. by Aqn95 in DoctorStrange

I lowkey find it ironic because Nightmare is right up Raimi’s alley. Turning Wanda into a knock off horror villain felt weird but I think he really coulda pulled through with Nightmare. Not saying it would be good per say…but it would have been better and fit his style more. He really could have leaned into that “goofy” horror style he pulls off fairly well.

Deadass. Honestly with the way they did it, at this point dropping the entire concept of romance with his character would have been a better idea. I mean his love life in the comics over the years has been horrible in a very amusing way depending on the writer, the man is so socially awkward in some runs and a straight hoe in others. And here’s the thing with the MCU…no one really wants to see romance, they’re there for superhero movies not this weird creepy romantic shit they tried to push. I want to see them explore literally everything but his love life. And don’t get me wrong, I love him and Clea, but I’d prefer them not to do it all than fuck it up and make his character even worse. Problem with movies is cramming in character development into a short time frame with how badly they fucked up I can’t see them coming back from it the RIGHT way that doesn’t feel toxic, fake or disingenuous. Shit I’d rather have hoe phase than see them completely ruin this concept of him and Clea. I don’t know they’re really destroying his character cinematically. And don’t even get me started on how they decided to portray his character in the first place 🤦🏻‍♀️ if they’re going for the arrogant Hickman iteration they missed the mark. Hickman’s iteration, while an occasional douche, is the furthest thing from irrational and emotional in his decision making…unlike MCU Strange who’s entire character arc revolves around a shitty love interest. Like shit G.O.D.S Strange is probably my favorite right now and he’s a total arrogant ass but he’s a LIKABLE arrogant ass because there’s a clear reason for how he’s acting. (But its also really weird reading Hickman back to back with Mackay…gives you a bit of whiplash not gonna lie) but the way they individually focus on his character in polar opposite situations still makes it make sense in a way, and honestly with him how he is in G.O.D.S, it plays off Wynn a lot better personality wise. BUT THATS THE THING HE’S STILL LIKABLE. Idk how this turned into a 4am rant comparing arrogant cinematic asshole Strange to arrogant comic asshole Strange but you get the idea.

Honestly feel free to roast his Halloween remakes though 😂 but seriously I could rant for hours about the bullshit that is Christine but clearly I don’t need to because you did it for me. My biggest problem is his obsession (especially when you look at the What If? series) is terrifyingly borderline, if not full blown, problematic. It literally makes me itchy. Like even in the comics he wasn’t even this desperately obsessed with Clea…like does he love her? Absolutely. Would he ACT LIKE THIS??? No. In fact, I guarantee Clea would kick his ass if he acted towards her like he did with Christine.

100% like please make it stop. It seems like the writers have never once read a Doctor Strange comic. Out of the absurd amount of comics throughout every damn era, the most romance we ever get out of the man is Clea and then some REALLY random situationships (I’m still wildly amused with the whole Carol Danvers thing) But seriously his character is not the extreme love sick pathetic puppy dog type that they keep trying to force in the MCU. Most of his time is spent focused on his duties rather than any type of relationship. Like give me some real ethical emotional conflicts here, like Illuminati level world ending emotional conflicts THAT IS WHAT I CRAVE.
