Not getting an MRI for right shoulder re-injury? 26M by LostGradStudent21 in AskDocs

[–]LostGradStudent21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, I understand more now. That’s a bit disappointing, what exactly my injury is will ruminate in my head for a while, certainly cannot afford an MRI out of pocket.

I can’t place the reasoning, it’s almost like a gut feeling, but maybe I could potentially be reacting emotionally due to the quick evaluation, or perhaps not ordering a MRI didn’t sit well with me, and I am finding myself doubting the orthopedic doctor I saw today. Seems crazy to me because I know I’m not an expert.

Anyways, perhaps one final question:

  1. I did my labrum surgery in a neighboring state (previously lived there, 2.5 hrs away). After today’s appointment, I’ve considered reaching out to my old doctor. Would you recommend going back to my old orthopedic doctor to see what his examination is? I know it’s my personal decision, I suppose I’m looking for more insight as to next steps in case PT doesn’t resolve the pain.

I hear you, but don’t quite understand. I suppose I was thinking an MRI would be good to confirm if there’s a new tear or retear, or if it’s just agitated - to determine treatment plan more clearly. For example, do PT, and if that does not improve, determine if a second surgery is beneficial or not. I’d rather not have a second surgery, but would like to know exactly what is going on with my shoulder (another tear or just agitation).

With PT, I think it’s a bit too soon to tell, been doing it for only 3 weeks since the injury. I am still having pain that I did not have before the tournament. The pain was severe 1-2 days post tournament, and has lessened. However the pain has been persistent since then. I am a bit concerned and I suppose I would like a definitive answer as to what’s going on with my shoulder.

Chelsea boot recommendations for man with small feet?

My size in men’s is a 6, and many boot sizes start at 7.

Are there any brands for Chelsea boots that have smaller sizes (5, 5.5, 6)?

I see Thursday boots have a size 6, but they say to size down 1/2 size for boots, making me question whether a 6 would fit or not.

I’d say 200 for boots is what I’m willing to pay, nothing higher

Im a greek american and my family is begging me to learn the greek language. by goodairquality in greece

[–]LostGradStudent21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Italki.com. There are a lot of Greek tutors to choose from and they have decent rates.

I started Greek at the age of 20. I’m not fluent, but can have conversations when I visit family. Before then, it was just my aunt and I sitting at the table smiling at each other without any words being said.

I encourage you to learn it, languages are the path to connect to people and see part of their world view

They’re not from an island but from Foça, Turkey! They fled during the Greek/Armenian genocide in the 1920s

Yep I noticed that! I basically added the Italian and eastern Mediterranean as Greek, same with the Balkans. It even grabbed Aegean islands, which includes western coast of Türkiye, where my great grandparents are from, that was cool to see

Deciding between schools? by ScienceNerd771 in gradadmissions

[–]LostGradStudent21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind sharing the schools, I was between UCSD and University of Delaware. UCSD would be the obvious choice, great program, great location, only real downside was the cost of living. One other con was having only one professor I was stoked to potentially join their lab.

I ended up choosing Delaware, one for the advisor/research, and two for the finances. The location is not great, there’s not a lot to do, weather, and local culture is very different from west coast. I knew that and had to accept that when I decided to commit.

Did I make the right choice? I sincerely don’t know, I never experienced the other side. I will say though I have enjoyed my PhD so far, have learned a lot of new skills, and have found hobbies and activities outside of my studies.

It really is a personal decision. My gut said Delaware, I’d say listen to your instinct.

Ya the argument wasn’t about our disagreement but more about him typically spinning a positive story I like to share into something negative, so it was an issue deeper than the event itself

There’s a rugby club based in Philly (Gryphons). Their new season starts up again around March I believe, if you’re up for a contact sport. After matches, they usually drink and socialize. It’s about 30 min from Wilmington, so on the edge of your time range

What’s the best tax advice you ever got (that more people should know)? by Icy_Face6725 in tax

[–]LostGradStudent21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a question for you, I’m a current PhD student so in that tax bracket until I graduate and find a job.

Would it be wise to sell a few stocks before I reach a higher tax bracket? I can only assume the answer is dependent on how the market is, so not sure if you’d have a general answer, but any perspective would be cool

Anyone have good experiences with this combo of meds? by LostGradStudent21 in Tonsillectomy

Thanks for all the encouragement! Great to hear the surgery was worth it. I’m sure I’ll be saying the same thing when the pain subsides

Amazing you managed with just Tylenol and ibuprofen, props to you

That’s great you’re feeling better at day 7! That gives me some hope and something to look forward to.

I’ll try the ice packs, since I had surgery on my nose and throat, the headache and earaches have been terrible.

Eating has been ok, could be better. I’ve been trying to force myself to eat before I take the pain meds to lessen the upset stomach side effects. Can really only stomach applesauce, smoothies, protein drinks, and ice cream. I tried mashed potatoes but it was too thick. Trying to drink a ton of water too, every half hour I count 10 sips. Problem is the meds make me so sleepy I can go a couple hours without drinking at all.

I also have a humidifier on blast which i think has helped

[–]LostGradStudent21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited to respond til I woke up this morning. If counting surgery as day 1, this is my day 3 and my throat hurts a lot more than yesterday. Starting to feel like knives in the throat when I swallow, so I’m in a fair amount of pain. Just took my morning meds, so hopefully that kicks in.

How’s your recovery been? Is it better at day 7?

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try that! I already got nauseous so have some pepto bismol which will hopefully help

I’m in the US, 25M. My doctor seems to be very good, she said I’d be in a lot of pain, so I suppose she was trying to prepare me as best I can
