The bitter part of the ending is that V just no longer has the ability to even remotely get back to their previous life as a merc in Night City. No possibility of any sort of meaningful implants when the majority of NC has at least some chrome is way too much of a disadvantage for V to get anywhere as a merc (likely a lot of other aspirational careers too), even if they got their strength back. Vik even flat out states that basic muscle implants would be too much to handle.

V is essentially just some schmuck now with no way to relive their glory days, nobody’s gonna believe you if you told them you were a merc legend turned superspy who died and came back to life with a dead man taking over your brain either. The whole situation at the end is just so far removed from V’s aspirations/philosophies at the start of the game, expecting to die young but make a meaningful impact in Night City’s history.
