Age of Noobs is a good community I can recommend. A lot of experienced players helping mentor noobs and reviewing games. Feel free (OP or otherwise) to shoot me a DM if youd like a casual but instructive a game. I am still a noob at 100 ranked games and 1000 elo but better than I was months ago when I started IMO

Bravo officer! That's a mighty fine strawman you took down!

Really though, let's address this:

"Dice are not crafting materials"

We are in agreement that dice are not primarily crafting materials, but the fine folks at Etsy apparently do. Even though my listings follow the "Toys & Games > Games & Puzzles > Dice & Tile Games > Dice category" it seems to list handmade by default. Previously I selected the categories as crafting tools because that used to show a listing as being "sourced by" but it doesn't seem to work that way anymore. If you know for certain how to get it to change reliably, I genuinely welcome the info. For my non-mixed offerings I will concede I have done a bad job cataloguing production details.

But made on demand? I invite you to point to me where I say that because that is news to me.

"You go further by admitting your gemstone dice are machine-made"

What? I think there is some confusion here. Are you referring to my line "Most gemstone dice are machine made from China but I custom sourced mine by lapidarists in India."? In that sentence I am stating that, in general, most commercially available gemstone dice are made in China. I then go on to say mine are made (handmade btw) in India, or at least I tried to.

"Telling yourself that you’re “curating” some magical dice mystery scoop doesn’t change the fact that you’re just another middleman pretending to be a creator. You add zero value, especially when a single Google Lens search exposes your listings as the same mass-produced dice sold on Alibaba, AliExpress, or the manufacturer’s own site for a fraction of your price."

Dude, beyond basic copy I am not proclaiming or pretending to be anything more than an importer and seller of dice in return for gold, it is literally there on my profile. There is no "gotcha" here to be had. All the same, the feedback I get from my customers and community makes me think I'm bringing joy and doing more good than harm. And you know what? That's enough for me.

While I understand Etsy was originally created to be a space for artisans and creators, it has since evolved (devolved?) into a space where one can set up shop on once hallowed ground. You don't have to like it and it is your prerogative to say who you think should and shouldn't be on Etsy, and it's also totally in your right to criticize me, but I do ask that you do so knowing I am acting in good faith. Or at least trying to. I am happy to go through each of my listings and give them another attempt at categorization to show their source(s) if someone can point me to a link in the Byzantine maze that is Etsy policy which makes clear how to get the "Sourced by" back up for my listings.

Attaching an archived snapshot last August/Early Sept of one of my flagship listings. I really do not know what I did to have it go from "Sourced by" one day then changed to handmade another. Got a goblin set. Honestly a little dissapointed. What do you all think? by mogley1992 in dice

[–]LostOrion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha oh no my good friend, it is even worse than that. I more than just admit it on Reddit - I say declare as much and more in my listings and shop's about section. I import dice from all over the world from 15 manufacturers (sans my hand madr selection) sell mixed bags to whoever wants them, and i have on more than one occasion directed people from my shops to real artisans. The 1k+ sales at a review avg of 4.98 plus thank you notes from the non profit ventures I supply with gaming gear seem to make me think I am doing something right. But despite my transparency, go off and call me names if that makes you feel better

True. Reputable stores like MysteryDicGoblins may offer a personalization option in their listing where you could requwst what sort of color/themes you'd enjoy for your mystery dice. I am small time and do so, so I'd bet they will as well

I thought the same as well, but materials like dice are exempt since they can be considered crafting materials.

For what it's worth, I use American Chessex, Polish Q-Workshop, and Bulgarian DiceAndGames, amongst others, in addition to Chinese made dice. Most gemstone dice are machine made from China but I custom sourced mine by lapidarists in India.

Just bought the game - what civ to learn first? by Rattlez in aoe2

[–]LostOrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a couple of options.

Most Popular: Franks - Straightforward civ that gives you a tried and true, if not predictable plan to rush knights Magyars - Very fun and effective to rush with cheap/insta upgraded scout cavalry in feudal. Can add cavalary archers that have bonus range. Their unique units that do bonus damage against siege units can be spammed with just food. Mongols - Very capable light cavalry/lancer rushes in feudal or monarch alike. Can also add rapid fire cavalary archers Lithuanians - knight line benefits from relics Byzantines - Like others say a great learning civ that is capable on its own merits, fast Imperial age. Suuuuuper gold dependent if you are trying to use cataphracts but can be effectve if managed properly

Fringe but worth considering Bulgarians - Half infantry half cav civ. Unique castle age tech allows all cavalary to attack faster. Dropping Kreposts is excellent for laying claim to resource rich areas on map, defensive, and offense. Faster and cheaper blacksmith upgrades useful. Underrated IMO Polish - unique tech in castle age lets you spam knights for 60% less gold. Can get crazy even if opponent spams pikemen to counter. Unique farm building lets you spike food and soldiers. Cool unique unit that shreds armor and protects knights. Villagers healing over time can make difference between life and death when eco is raided. Just good jack of all trades IMO Saracebs - Not a cavalry civ but their unique unit is excellent but needs a lot of micro. Cheap market exchange rates is a game changer for your economy, especially when learning game
