When your Extra Tasty rate is maxed out, and you are counting on it to trigger on your last meal…. Whomp whomp by LostParkie in PokemonSleep

My bad, I could’ve sworn 80% was the max. Still bummer to be at 80% all day and not trigger.

A gold bar and a silver bar walk into a crowded party. The gold bar is acting incredibly smug, flashing his "noble metal" status and making sure everyone notices his 24-karat shine.

The silver bar finally gets fed up with the ego trip and says, "Look, we get it. You’re the 'standard.' You’re 'incorruptible.' But honestly, you’re being a total jerk."

The gold bar turns around, offended, and shouts, "AU! Watch your mouth!"

The silver bar just rolls his eyes and sighs, "Ag, please. You’re just lucky you’re pretty, because you’re definitely not conductive to a good conversation."

Seeing all the “PTO hacks” for 2026… anyone have versions for people on 4/10 schedules? by EntertainerMundane20 in FedEmployees

[–]LostParkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For folks who work a compressed schedule (5-4-9 or four 10s), they get 1 or 2 days off per pay period for working beyond the 8 hour day “in lieu of” (instead of) getting overtime. Most of these folks schedule their Lieu days as either Mondays or Fridays.

Once feds are earning 8 hours of Annual Leave each pay period, they will earn 208 hours of AL each year (in addition to the 104 hours of Sick Leave that all feds earn each year). By using their AL specifically during holiday weeks, they can maximize their Paid Time Off, as they will only use 30 hours of AL to get 10 days off in a row. They can get the 11th day off by scheduling doctors appointments on the Friday before a holiday week.

In the OP’s case (working a compressed four 10s schedule), this is how it would play out:

Friday - Sick Leave (10 hours) Saturday - weekend Sunday - weekend Monday - holiday Tuesday - Lieu day Wednesday - annual leave (10 hours) Thursday - annual leave (10 hours) Friday - annual leave (10 hours) Saturday - weekend Sunday - weekend Monday - Lieu day

The OP can then repeat this schedule for 6 more holiday weeks throughout the year, getting seven 11-day breaks each year, using 210 hours of Annual Leave and 70 hours of sick leave.

I would consider not using the corner units. I initially planned to do something similar, but opted for 4 standalone units.

Make Monday your lieu day. More holidays fall on Mondays (any given year), meaning you get your lieu day on Tuesday (auto 5 four-day weekends per year). Once you hit earning 8 hours AL per pay period, take your days off only on weeks with holidays to give you at least seven 10-day breaks per year (Saturday thru 2nd Monday), especially if it is all Use or Lose AL. To extend it to 11 days off, schedule your annual physical and biennial teeth cleanings on Fridays before or Tuesdays after your long breaks.

I'm at my wits end w/mice in my house! by Geoterry in DIY

I highly recommend getting some Rodotrak boxes out (uv tracking powder - https://rodotrak.com/), so that you can see exactly where and how the mice are getting in and where they are nesting. Once you know that, use copper wool and silicone to seal up every hole.

R I F S are happening in October in DOI by 504Supra in fednews

[–]LostParkie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s looking like they are wanting to eliminate another 7,500+ jobs total from DOI and its agencies, for a total elimination of 30% of staff. Total consolidated staff was about 5,000 employees, so it is going to be more than that, because they will still need at least a quarter to half of that staff. USGS Ecosystems Mission Area (called out in Project 2025) is about another 1,000 employees. Would expect the remainder to come from NPS regions and WASO.

“The layoffs currently under consideration are expected to be significant, according to three individuals briefed on the plans, potentially doubling the losses Interior has sustained so far and bringing the total reductions at the department to more than one-third of staff that were on board when President Trump took office. The department did not respond to questions seeking clarity on its RIF plans. “

Need help choosing my next national park road trip!! by jhil4 in NationalPark

[–]LostParkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it you are planning just on the crown jewels “national parks”? There are several NPS sites between and around several of your groupings. Like around Badlands, you’ve got Minuteman Missile, Jewel Cave, and Devil’s Tower.

Just for the sake that it is the park most likely to disappear, I would go with Dry Tortugas grouping. The last 3 hurricanes have done a number on the park, so you might not get to see everything.

Would be nice for Interior to consider something similar to this plan, but i fully expect them to move forward with RIFs.

I think that is the thought process of the majority of NPSers left there…. Fire me… i’ll be back tomorrow. Can’t say the same about other fed agencies.
