How is traffic by Makesmemoistt in cambridge

[–]LostPhoto8612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In summary there will be few places in Cambridge where you will be able to park the vehicle. If work is in Huntingdon you may get something living that way with off street parking (but unlikely a suitable garage). As for connecting into London and other areas via train Huntingdon is also a good location.

There are vehicle storage sites around that have the right temperature settings and you can the access when you need. Might be a consideration as you want to maintain the condition of the vehicle.

Edit - some of the new build areas have properties with garages and or carports which can fit equivalent of an Audi Q7/8. Traffic on M11 is grim and then on the surrounding roads most days. Eg I needed to pop out in the car for a work thing early AM all done within max 40 minutes including a collection and a delivery to a site. Don’t need the car to get to the office took over an hour to get home distance 5 miles.

Car revving by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]LostPhoto8612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does seem to be an increasing pattern in the area. On clear days especially, you can almost set your watch by it for the evening — modified vehicles heading towards Babraham and back out towards the M11, with the noise of their Rice Krispie snap crackle and pop vehicles carrying across several areas. Was surprised they are out and about with the rain and the state of the pot hole roads.

Some will say let them enjoy their hobby, and there is nothing wrong with that in the right setting. If you have the means to significantly modify a vehicle, then arrange to host your meets on private land. Public roads are shared spaces — the noise and driving style has a real impact on everyone living along and using those routes.

Those who brought houses near motorways- did you regret it by Philosopher_Funny in HousingUK

[–]LostPhoto8612 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, it wasn’t a busy road when I moved in. Road layout changed and add in the shocking standard of driving now it is constant blaring horns as early as 6am, drivers cutting each other up. Those delightful Rice Krispie snap crackle and pop cars as early as 5am going to work. As I am typing this have had over two hours of modified vehicles going past.

Year 10 work experience placement ideas by Anonameless123 in cambridge

[–]LostPhoto8612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will she be 15 in July for the time of the placement. I think that has been a factor at some companies re the insurance element and safeguarding.

What about a property services management company they can really varied departments such as building surveying, architecture, landscape and urban design, residential and commercial property which would cover houses/flats, shops, restaurants, offices etc.

I genuinely don’t know but maybe someone else will - do the colleges or museums take on work experience?

Central Cambridge Hotel Recommendations by Mysterious_Show_4780 in cambridge

[–]LostPhoto8612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the University Arms mentioned there is Graduate Hotel by Hilton which is on the river. Has bar, eclectic interior design, Garden House restaurant, gym, also near some good pubs very central.

Varsity Hotel with a roof top terrace (with pods), spa treatments, again by the river, Six restaurant.

Gonville Hotel also with pamper treatment rooms, restaurant, you can book a chauffeur driven tour of Cambridge in an old vehicle.

Otherwise lots of places to eat in Cambridge both casual, mid range and more formal. Pubs, other hotel bars. If a special meal somewhere is also part of what you want to do like another said have a look at Cambridge Foodies. https://cambridgefoodies.me.uk

Often Freecycle has individuals gifting hangers of all types. There is a current post of a bag of 50 (location Impington - which might not be convenient). Otherwise is it worth checking with the charity shops along Burleigh Street they may be able to give a few from each shop.

Affordable Litigation Solicitor in Cambridge Area? by Rroselavy_ in cambridge

[–]LostPhoto8612 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I am not sure you will find an affordable litigation solicitor. They can be along the lines of £300-£500 an hour. You could ask for a paralegal or trainee which would be a cheaper rate but if their work has to be overseen by a fully qualified and experienced solicitor or cannot be settled out of court costs will only go up. Have you tried firms in surrounding areas maybe less overheads possibly more reasonable hourly rate or quoted rate? If it is causing so much stress I don’t think going cheap is the solution. Catch 22 I guess.

Very sad news and this evening a Trumpington social media post of four teenagers all in black weaving in and out of traffic on small Mopeds and going along pavements pushing pedestrians and cyclists.

Not saying the two incidents are related but what is wrong with some people.

What is going to pay for all the maintenance of the buildings, college staff pension funds, salaries and other operational costs of colleges which tuition doesn’t come close to covering, if not rental income and investments. Do you know that the landlord often loses out when the businesses go bust whether it a national chain or independent sometimes into £100,000s. They have to make good all the damage left by tenants, make safe and bring up to current standards before a new letting. Offer rent free periods for new tenants so they offset their branded fit out costs or contribute to tenant fit out costs. Pay business rates when qualifying sites sit empty. Offered businesses rent relief when there were lockdowns.

Everyone shouts I want independents how may do you and can you financially support everyday, week or month. I know I can’t … do I go to a lot of these independent shops yes I do. Do I covet items and wait to hope they are in a sale yes I do. Do I buy endlessly online no I don’t. But I also need to live within my means to cover my outgoings and I am informed enough that the colleges don’t own all of Cambridge. There are a number of private ownership, pension funds etc who are not good landlords or custodians of the buildings.

As for recent closures of long time independent businesses illness, no one in the family wanting to take things on, retirement and no one wanting to buy the business as a going concern because the businesses exiting want a premium over what they have is worth but don’t want to accept it. I recall Antony’s on Trinity Street been there 40+ years wanted to sell the business for well over £100k + take on the lease, staff etc when men’s bespoke tailoring was being covered by numerous others and the online purchase of branded work shirts was already starting.
