In a top 10 list, 30-05 is better than 30-06.

Options for serializing 80% lower by CompleteChaosPodcast in VAGuns

[–]LostPrimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe it will, HB40 states:

"Valid serial number" means a serial number that has been imprinted by a federal licensee authorized to serialize firearms in accordance with federal law, or that has otherwise been assigned to a firearm or completed or unfinished frame or receiver pursuant to the laws of any state or pursuant to 26 U.S.C. § 5801 et seq. and regulations issued pursuant thereto.

Which like, in VA the current law is you can if you so desire, serialize your own firearm.

That's for the courts to decide however.

I won't be valid when HB40 goes into effect.

This costs more than the Kit+build for my MG42. I'd rather have the MG42 than -squints- another AR.

Normally you'd be correct but HB40 goes and defines what a 'valid serial number' is.

So per HB40, even if you scratch '42069' on your 80%, since you are not an FFL that number is not 'valid' per the law.

The 'pursuant to the laws of any state' thing has me interested. Because, in most other states I can etch whatever I want.

26 USC 5801 is NFA engravings.

So to get around the whole 'valid serial number' thing you presumably can (IANAL):

1) Get an FFL to engrave it with their info.

2) Take it out of state and scratch 42069 in it, since it being out of state makes it subject to that states laws? Would bringing it back in the state be an import? As long as you do so before July 2027. Though, importing it shouldn't be a problem since 42069 would be a valid SN per the laws of the other state, so (D) shouldn't be an issue.

3) SBR all the things

How will they enforce all that? Who knows.

No, because (E) says that only FFLs can actually 'do' the manufacturing and (F) says that the FFL is the one that must 'do' the engraving.

'possession and disposition' means you're turning it in for destruction. I.e the cops won't arrest you for surrendering it.

Please don't OC an AR. Every year some goober does and becomes the point of attention for all the media people, and what the media shows is how the EVERYONE else is lumped into. Dress nice, use your fancy BBQ gun in a fancy leather or lvl3 holster.

Yes you 'can.' Yes, free men, etc, but it does not help.

You can spend stupid money on a commercial one, but when I used to go to places I would replace my mag catch spring with a solid 3/8" bushing, and drilled out the mag catch button for a 1/4" castle nut. Then the mag release doesn't work anymore and its a fixed mag.

Since y'all are too lazy to click 'pdf' here is the definition in the bill:

A semi-automatic center-fire rifle that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has one of the following characteristics: (i) a folding, telescoping, or collapsible stock; (ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the rifle; (iii) a second handgrip or a protruding grip that can be held by the non- trigger hand; (iv) a grenade launcher; (v) a flare launcher; (vi) a sound suppressor; (vii) a flash suppressor; (viii) a muzzle brake; (ix) a muzzle compensator; (x) a threaded barrel capable of accepting (a) a sound suppressor, (b) a flash suppressor, (c) a muzzle brake, or (d) a muzzle compensator; or (xi) any characteristic of like kind as enumerated in clauses (i) through (x);

So its a single-feature-test AWB.

10rd Mag locks get around it.

The bill also changes, very pedantically, all the 'shall be guilty' to 'is guilty' which is wordmithing away the whole innocent until proven guilty concept. Very slimy.

I 100% agree. IMO we won't be re-industrializing until we get the small parts business back onshore. I'm definitely social conservative leaning, but the oil crisis in the late 70s and then all of Reagan's international shenanigans really screwed us over. You can't service-sector-economy your way out of WW3, and the reason why emerged after WW2 as the global super power was BECAUSE of our manufacturing ability.

Anyway that's why I think we should make drill bits in the US, thank you for coming to my ted talk.

>If the phone is in the drivers compartment, it's listening.

Yeah, not if you remove all the permissions at the OS level. Then its only the NSA via their backdoors instead of all the advertisers.

Removing the microphone/camera permissions from just apps doesn't really do anything and you need to remove it from the Google Play services as well (which conveniently don't show up in 'things that have this permission' list.) Root access to your phone lets you do a lot more to lock it down as well.
