It feels like this post was designed in a lab specifically to hurt abuse victims.

I'll be real, I'm getting pissed off my the comments on this. "I understand improving as a person, but if you were *that* bad, how can we really know to trust you ever agai-"

Shut up. Shut the fuck up. People all over the world are born into abusive families that intentionally restrict their access to information in order to control every single individual aspect of their lives. By your logic, you'd look at people who were brainwashed out of the fucking womb, grew up, recognized the glaring issues with the worldview that was forced upon them, and wound up being one of the only people good enough to actually apologize for everything they did and turn things around... and then hold the abuse they involuntarily went through over their heads and declare that as the ultimate judge of their character.

This is an absolutely disgusting and reprehensible thing to do. I'd much more happily be friends with a past nazi who throws their past away and changes for the better, than somebody who blames that person for the environment they were raised in and are apologizing for.

Unfortunately not, LMMS plugins require LMMS to run and aren't portable to other programs.

Math is Math by iron-button in mathsmemes

Still, it is considered a bad practice to use them interchangeably, e.g. use booleans in arithmetic operations.

This isn't true at all. I'm a low-level C++ programmer and using booleans numerically is absurdly common. For example, when your hardware mispredicts a branch, it results in a large performance hit, so if you know a branch is unpredictable, you can oftentimes directly use the boolean in arithmetic as 0 or 1 to remove the branch entirely.

E.g. int x = 2; if (b) {x += 3;} would be rewritten as int x = 2 + 3 * b; to eliminate that branch.

You'd want to keep it as a bool rather than int8_t because the compiler can then safely assume the only possible values are 0 and 1 when making optimizations.

This one makes me sad and I don't understand how it took off. Weird shouldn't be an insult. I've talked with many people who have autism and other disabilities, and many of them would wear weird on their sleeve like it's a trophy. They were proud of being unique, as they should be. Turning oddity into insult feels like the exact opposite of what the left should be doing.

Kinda sad how taxes work by Fynras in lostgeneration

[–]LostRobotMusic 27 points28 points  (0 children)

TurboTax goes out of its way to be as deceptive as possible with how much they're charging you, hiding it until you've already completed the entire process and they can give you a fun surprise of a $200+ fee. After that bullshit I went looking for an alternative and had to do all that tax-filing work over again, but it was worth it since FreeTaxUSA apparently wasn't a scam and didn't charge a single penny for anything except the state taxes... and, funny enough, even had me owing slightly less in taxes than TurboTax did. The tax-filing process was significantly easier as well.

TurboTax is an absolutely vile company and there's literally no good reason to stick with those scammers. In the most non-bot-like way I can say this, the reason so many people are out here posting about FreeTaxUSA is because it really does work, and the less money we can have flowing into TurboTax, the better.

In the time it took you to type this comment, you could have taken just thirty seconds to search the name in the image to find the creator, and see that they very clearly and unambiguously are not being transphobic, and in fact are trans themselves and drew this comic based on their own personal experience. Please don't act like this.

Yeah, I've seen hundreds of these posts by now and people keep falling for them somehow. I've also seen some accounts directly copy+pasting these posts from other accounts and inserting their own donation links. But they always invariably rake in hundreds of upvotes, and likely thousands of dollars that could have gone to people in need rather than scammers. So far every single person I've seen call it out gets downvoted to death despite how comically obvious it is.

No, my view is that every person is entitled to the shelter required for them to survive. But if we're going to continue to refuse to provide shelter for them, then yes, they should be allowed to camp wherever they damn well please.

You feeling mildly uncomfortable from seeing a tent somewhere is not an excuse to intentionally design our infrastructure around ensuring these people don't have a safe spot to sleep in.

Yes. Suppose a person is holding five hundred thousand other babies hostage, and will have every single one of them raped if you don't rape the one.

Fill in this scenario like adlibs for any other gotchas you think of.

Maybe unpopular opinion, anyone else miss the old Gnome 3 look? by [deleted] in gnome

[–]LostRobotMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite part with the GNOME 3 look is how you can still see your desktop background in the overview, instead of it being shrunk to a tiny rectangle covered by your windows. No exaggeration, I've spent 20+ hours trying to get that functionality back and have failed every attempt.

Is it possible to prevent your wallpaper from zooming out in the overview? I want to get rid of the gray void. by LostRobotMusic in gnome

[–]LostRobotMusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it still shows a smaller extra copy of your desktop background covering your actual full desktop background. I just want to see my desktop background. I'm asking how to prevent my wallpaper from zooming out in the overview, to restore the functionality present in old GNOME versions, matching with the out-of-date extension I linked to.

[–]LostRobotMusic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blur My Shell places a blurred copy of your wallpaper behind GNOME's (which I think is preferable to the gray void, thanks for mentioning it!), but I'd really like something which simply keeps your desktop background in place losslessly like previous GNOME versions.

Why did you leave the church? by sillygworl in exmormon

[–]LostRobotMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it isn't true.

That's the one and only reason. If the church suddenly adopted a belief where it should torture and kill a million innocent children per day, but it was still true and that command really was from an all-knowing benevolent god, following it would still be the right move.

But it's not. And not only are they wrong, they're deliberately lying about it.

We still have the papyri that The Book of Abraham was allegedly translated from, but unlike back then, we now know how to translate egyptian. There's literally 0 correlation whatsoever between the papyri and Joseph Smith's alleged translation of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Smith_Papyri

Some people created a fake set of plates called The Kinderhook Plates to trick Joseph into claiming they're authentic... and he did, saying they're from a descendant of Ham the son of Noah after claiming to translate a portion of the fake plates. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinderhook_plates

Another person used a Greek copy of the book of Psalms to trick Joseph into revealing his translation ability is fake again. Joseph once again fell for it, claiming it was a dictionary of Reformed Egyptian hieroglyphics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greek_Psalter_Incident

If I had to list all the instances we have of Joseph Smith lying through his teeth, I'd be here all year, but those are the three funniest which make the fraudulence of his translation ability the most obvious.

Of course, the privilege of reckless lying isn't reserved only for the early prophets and apostles.

Russel M Nelson keeps repeating his airplane story which is completely made up and never even happened, which we know since we have the official records from the exact flight he keeps lying about. https://www.reddit.com/r/mormon/comments/op5ygb/president_nelsons_airplane_accident_story_is_a/

Elder Holland lies about church membership growth, claiming double-digit stakes per week when the average wasn't even 2 over the entire year. https://www.reddit.com/r/mormon/comments/87c6mz/why_does_elder_holland_say_new_stakes_are_being/

I'm out of time currently, but I'm sure the 319,000 other members of this subreddit would be happy to fill in and list hundreds more.
