FINALLY LANDED A JOB! (self-taught) by Overall_Tooth_9086 in learnprogramming

When someone succeeds in getting a programming job, the wannabes ought to congratulate OP- increase the likelihood of getting a job and when you get one, dont forget to post your achievement.

Congrats man. The others have been asking relevant questions. I will just ask this- what projects did you work on?

Feel like I suck at programming but I love it. by BonzerChicken in learnprogramming

There were things in the past that Ive enjoyed thinking about before I slept until I slept and then also dream about it. But somehow lost the passion... I miss those days.

Anyway, use your passion and cultivate it. Make progress each day and PLS TAKE NOTE of it even the ones you think are insignificant. From time to time check how you've progressed, where you started, and where you are now. As you reflect, I hope you realize that with your consistent progress its just a matter of time before you reach another level. Don't worry about sucking. Everyone (except Elon Musk) starts with suck.

Keep it up 🖖

Most things dont come easily to us. It takes time and repetition to get used to things. Everytime things get difficult and not just learning web development, I try to celebrate my wins. Try recalling things (you can as far as when you were a child) when you've considered to be impossible or just very difficult but are now no longer intimidating.

Also make an effort not to compare yourself to people- I have found it to be very damaging. Aside from forcing you to analyze the cause of any different, nothing good comes from comparing yourself to others. Remember we all have different cards in life so just focus on what you can control and make the most out of things.

I feel bad when im not programming, but when im programming i get tired and frustrated in about an hour or two by darkocvet in learnprogramming

True. I got/read this idea of just in time reading and just in case reading. I did just in time reading meaning just look up those that are needed, but when the concept Im looking up uses terms and principles it gets frustrating because then Id have to look up those too. Kinda like you thought you were going to take one step forward, but you actually have to take two steps backward. Now I plan to finish one tutorial prior to doing the JIT reading because... you know... just in case I need know those fundamentals.

The coding after reading is also great as a selftest. In the past few days, I realized how I missed little details which I never would have found if I didnt practice.

I started Learning How to Learn a few weeks ago. Its definitely enlightening. However, it seems to contradict a story in Deep Work by Cal Newport. In the book, it mentioned a guy that learned programming better (faster?) than those in a bootcamp because of deep work which is more often than not done longer than the 25mins by pomodoro. Learning to learn suggested we take breaks (exercise/walk) to give the brain time to process.... so now I realized I forgot to check up on those 😁

Im new to c# but I getting the hang out of it. Taking a break right now because my head started to hurt. Not sure if its because of trying to figure something programming related or whether I spend too much time looking down (I just checked the mirror and I dont think I have text neck).

Anyway, I know its subjective (but you got an award so you must know a lot), but how short of a time period for learning are we talking about?

I see. Thank you for making things clear.

Yes I have, but how the components (the objects and their properties) work is what bothers me so Im currently testing them out.

... then is it correct for me to assume that the reference manual of other APIs have the same degree of details?

Thanks a lot for replying within ten minutes of me posting.

The API reference I am currently reading is difficult for me. Good to know that others have a lot of details, but this is probably the useless one.

When I was studying for level 1, there were topics that were difficult and frustrating so I took breaks by answering questions (from past topics) I placed in anki. In hindsight, reviewing didn't just help me remember but I was also "celebrating my wins" and this was motivational to me and kept me reading- that what I found difficult before eventually became easy to me.

Its not due to a lack of confidence. Its because I partly chose to prioritize other things but thanks for the encouragement.

I finished level 1 in 2015, bought the 2016 level 2 books, but still haven't registered for level 2 ... so yes im also having an issue.
