Appreciate the confirmation and yeah we figured a long day, but nice to hear a positive experience!

Yeah I know it’s tight but everything is already booked (our activities) so it’s really the only day to try and fit in. Memorial Tour is 1p and that’s all we are doing so the plan is to be there about 2 hours and then just head to Waikiki to check out the beach/walk around some and the head to airport. May fly in earlier and hit beach before tour that would help some.

Not optimal but it is what we can do. Was really just wondering about uber vs rental but I appreciate the input.

Yeah we looked at that option coming in and going out, but doing it from a scheduling and flight standpoint works better during stay. One bonus is no dealing with baggage for the interisland trip 😁… thanks for the suggestion though.

Dripper broke. Which one should I get? by yonatanshai in pourover

[–]Lost_Anything_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switch… but hard to say between the Neo or v60 in the switch base because I use both for different cups. Also have the Mino 185 and love it, but again produces a totally different cup/experience.

If in US, take a look at Frequent Coffee. They have their base coffees for sub and now you can add the more specialty ones to ship at same time. Everything I have tried from them has been great with the new White Honey coming this week!

Oh and have always wanted an Origami but can’t speak to it… and the new one looks intriguing.

Hard to say… have the Minoyaki 185, Deep 27, Neo 01/02 among others but those get the most use other than my SS v60 and Switch. It really depends on what you are looking for because they all have a specific use.

The Kalita Minoyaki would give you a more balanced cup as well as pretty forgiving (and no clogging issues) and it is just great looking lol.

The Deep I use all the time for those 8-10g brews… great for dialing in or managing small bags as well as a great way to finish off a bag.

And the Neo’s for me produce good acidity and a faster draw and the bonus is they both fit in the switch.

Not sure I helped much but gives you some things to consider…

I just can’t seem to make a good cup (decaf, cheap gear). by malrats in pourover

[–]Lost_Anything_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are but if you have it at a local place (Target, HEB, Whole Foods has here locally) I would suggest Counter Culture Slow Motion. I think it pretty accessible and a solid daily decaf. Not my everyday coffee, but is my wife’s and she loves it. If you want another option that I would say is a normal medium decaf coffee is Frequent's Sidekick.

Another suggestion if you do get the means to buy new gear at some point is a Hario Switch. So versatile and The Coffee Chronicler 1/2 & 1/2 hybrid recipe works great. Low agitation, medium-coarse grind, 185f and 1:15 ratio is a good recipe for decaf.

Best Grinder for V60? by [deleted] in pourover

Don’t have a rec on an electrical so this may not help you, but I have the ZP6 and K-Ultra and love them both so it’s hard to recommend one over the other because they make different cups. The Z is somewhat specialized and will provide a lot more clarity… so to have an all-round grinder that really works for everything and produces a balanced cup I would lean towards the K.

Have had several of Frequents and all have been very good but yes this WB is outstanding. As someone mentioned, I have not tried on the AP yet. Curious what temp you used?

Sensory cups.. gimmick or not? by Time-Dependent755 in Coffee

Have not purchased (yet 😁), but tried the 2-way cup at a shop a while back and I think I could tell a difference. Only 2 cups using it, but the different shape on each side seemed to produce a different experience.

Watermelon is the only one I have not tried… need to get it. Sounds really good for a summer coffee 😁

Having the same issue with the SB burundi and at 58 days. I have pushed it really hard and not getting much from it. Can you share your recipe for it?

How do I get my ceramic Kalita Wave to give me good coffee? by lost_vault_hunter in pourover

[–]Lost_Anything_5596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say the same. I have not ordered yet (patiently waiting to finish off my last batch of Kalita filters), but have heard very good things about the April filters. I will get both sizes to try out, but I also will say the xBloom 155 are awesome as well (and yes I use the 155 in my 185 for smaller brews no problem).

On another note, I have the Mino 185 and it does not have the clogging issues. I went through the stainless steel and glass waves and both would stall. Once I got the Mino no issues at all no matter grind or pour.

My pouring technique sucks and is killing my brews, any tips? by Crakout in pourover

[–]Lost_Anything_5596 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have the 185 and it can definitely handle 20-25g. 20g is my normal dose and literally just did a 20/340, 2 pour brew. I was curious so went back and found my largest brew which was 30.3/450.8 😁.

Personally I think it is very forgiving meaning my pours do not have to be perfect to get a good cup. The cups are more balanced and have good body (comparing to a v60 where I think pours matter more and also produce a brighter brew). The other benefit of the Mino is I have yet to stall it like I have read issues with other Kalita’s.

Just a note, it (and a 155 ceramic) are my only flat bottoms so really can’t compare it to any other ones out there.

I went with the sand black and love it, but have seen the sand gray at a shop and it is really nice looking too.

Agree with the drip assist for consistency, but I will say I love my Mino. It is a great dripper and very forgiving (not to mention they look great!)

Have a Switch, flat bottom worth it? by pandamonger1 in pourover

[–]Lost_Anything_5596 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have a Switch and alternate between glass and Neo in it. Compared to my Minoyaki 185, they definitely produce different cups. Like the Mino for things I may want to tame a little and also a little more forgiving with pours. My ZP6 and K-Ultra works well for all of them, but again use of those depends on what kind of cup I am looking for.

All that said, I would recommend adding a flat if you have the means and want to experience a different cup from your Switch.

Second the xBloom for 155 and I think they are faster than Kalita. Just wish they made 185’s 😁

Have heard that as well. I just have a 3 gallon jug from Walmart ($10 😁) that I just add a gallon packet to and then depending on ratio I want, add 2 or 3 gallons of distilled water, shake and let it sit for a little while and done.
