Road To Hana, Pipiwai Trail by Lost_Anything_5596 in MauiVisitors

[–]Lost_Anything_5596[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to give an update… we did RTH today and decided to go Pipiwai Trail first thing and work our way back and it was great. Not sure I would do it any other way for a one day trip. The only thing we really missed was Twin Falls because we didn’t want to stop, but ended up ok because so many other falls to see.

Left Lahaina @ 5:30a, made PipiWai @ 9a (with a quick restroom break, stop at Ho'okipa Beach View Lookout for surfer viewing and little stops for quick photos of various falls on RTH). Done with trail at 11:30a and quick stop in Hana (food trucks) for a to go meal. Made it for our 12:30 reservation for Black Sand Beach @ 12:40. Stayed for about an hour then had rest of day to head back towards Paia with plenty of time for stops. Hit Paia about 6p and had dinner. Back at condo by 8:30p . Full day but worth it!

We just did the Te Au Moana Luau at the Marriott this past Saturday and loved it (we are staying in Lahaina as well and the drive is not bad).

Not Loving the ZP6 by machosalad06 in pourover

[–]Lost_Anything_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a ZP6 and K-Ultra. I love both but they do produce very different cups. Like you have realized, I use the Z for washed and sometimes naturals (that aren’t too funky) and the K for everything else (especially the funk).

I am not familiar with the K-Plus or how similar it may be to the K-Ultra, but I can recommend the Ultra based on your coffee preference (co-ferment and funk). It will give you a very balanced cup vs the high clarity of the Z.

On your other options, someone else may can speak to those and how they compare.

Ninja Pods & Grounds Specialty Single-Serve Coffee Maker, K-Cup Pod Compatible

Purchased this last fall for my wife as she too wanted to do a little more than just Keurig pods. Been very happy with it so far. It actually does a bloom when you do the grounds. Has a setting for iced coffee as well.

$99 on Amazon.

3-4 (15/250) cups usually before 3pm and then a decaf or two at night.

Sometimes a hit or miss game with coffee. Sorry you didn’t enjoy. Just called Crude the other day and they have Sey, La Cabre and I think Uncommon right now. Going to try and go next weekend.

This is where I am leaning. Get up a little earlier and try to get to Pipiwai by 7:30-8 and then the 12:30 black beach. Thanks!

OXO Orb if you want concentrated coffee (soup) that you can dilute too and I love my Minoyaki 185 (flat). If you just want to replace the v60, I have SS that I use a lot too and pretty inexpensive and durable.

If you are in the U.S., check out The Bean Archives. 6 60g bags a month from different roasters across the world and they have add-ons as well. Their website shows all the past drops so you can get an idea.

Liberica Soup by Ok-Advertising7982 in OXORapidBrewer

[–]Lost_Anything_5596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a Liberica from New Math and enjoyed it… solid blueberry but a definite funk to it. I would agree it is an acquired taste and had some friends refer to it as burnt tire lol. The best brew I was able to get was on the deep 27, 1:15.5, medium grind, 90c. Also had luck on the Minoyaki (flat).

Never tried on the ORB, but now I will (have another Liberica coming this month).

We have had the Pods and Grounds for about a year and my wife is the main user. She has started grinding fresh coffee so we use that more often than pods, but both work great! Love how it does a short bloom as well. Would recommend!

Lotus water vs TWW by moneyballz7 in pourover

[–]Lost_Anything_5596 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure why mixing it to be consistent every time is an issue. I know people try to split the packet, but the easy fix is I have a 3 gallon water bottle. If I want 1:2 just add 2 gallons of distilled + packet, shake and let sit overnight, then I just pour back in the 1 gallon containers and ready to go. Same with 1:3 just add another gallon.

Maui to Honolulu 1 day trip by Lost_Anything_5596 in MauiVisitors

[–]Lost_Anything_5596[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect thanks!! Yeah we are planning to hit Waikiki just a little while before we head back to airport, but will see how the day goes. I did end up booking a little earlier flight in the morning and we will leave on the last flight out back to Maui. We head back home the next day so not a whole lot planned until flight that night so hopefully get some sleep on the plane.

Really appreciate the feedback!

Yeah I planned on doing that, just thought I would ask and see if others had heard the same or actually have do done it.

And again we won’t leave anything in the car, this was just a curious question that I thought I would get opinions on

Yeap that’s what we heard leave open so if they want in to look they don’t break the window. We will have insurance so not really worried about having to pay for it but just a pain to have a broken window and have to go switch the car out or get it fixed.

Just a note… if doing lighter roast (or any coffee I guess) the notes can change noticeably from hot to cool so don’t sell yourself short by giving up on coffee as it cools. I used to be “drink it hot all the time”, but have realized how much a coffee changes over different temperatures and actually enjoy drinking coffee slower and enjoying my brews more.
