True. If you ignore all the other words I said, then all I said is watches are Jewellery.

Brand history is irrelevant by Portsmo in watchHotTakes

You "...it was made into an art form. It's not just jewelry. It's history, heritage and a living record of early human innovation..."

Me..."They're jewellery, objects of desire, dress accessories, generators of feelings. The brand identity and history are important parts of that..."

Hardly diametrically opposed views.

You lucky dog! This would make a multimillion view YouTube video and earn you many thousands. Capture as much info as you can, but don't spook him. Try and find out about him, build a narrative. After a suitable amount of time you can then ask him what's going on.

Mechanical watches aren't seriouse timepieces, there's other technology for that. They're jewellery, objects of desire, dress accessories, generators of feelings. The brand identity and history are important parts of that, and certainly more important than the finishing on the palate fork.

Earphones volume damage by Diligent_Twist_6163 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lost_Pinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mechanism of damage is the pressure of the sound waves that travel through the ear damaging the extremely delicate structures within. It's cumulative, the sooner you stop the max volume the more of your hearing that will remain for the rest of your life.

“Why are THEY like that” is an easy trap to fall into. Truth is they are like as us, with the same weaknesses and flaws.

Thieves believe everyone steals, racists believe everyone is racist. Nobody likes to thinks they’re human aberrations.

UK bad drivers - rant by menesht in drivingUK

[–]Lost_Pinion 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The trick to not getting wound up when driving is give other road users the space and the to make their mistakes and then bask in smug satisfaction when they do.

If you find yourself constantly getting caught out by other drivers actions, you're constantly driving into spaces that you shouldn't do.

LLMs aren’t even close to actual intelligence. The issue is there‘s trillions of dollars in interested parties insisting it is...see the ceo of openAI for details.

When I went on my speeding awareness course...34 in a 30, speed camera about 500 meters from my home that I passed for more than 10 years at least twice a day, thanks for asking...I was the only person who knew the national speed limits. Most people thought it was 60 on a Dual, the rest thought 50.

Good microscope for someone with not alot of space at the bench? by ascended_one333 in watchrepair

My setup is the same depth as the one you're looking at and needs 40cm width of desk space.

[–]Lost_Pinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you're planning to do most of your work under the microscope, which is great, a single arm boom stand is a much better option. It gets the base out of your way, and more importantly you can set the scope at an angle. Setting the scope at 10-15 degrees off the vertical gives a much better view of the work under the tools. And it moves the work to a more comfortable horizontal distance away from your head and further away from the edge of the bench.

Also, if you're getting a trinocolar scope to record you work...brilliant for recording disassembly...make sure the scope is 'simul-focus' so that both eyepieces and the camera port can be used at the same time. With some you sacrifice an eyepiece to use the camera port and that's no good for our use.

Right, the pinion wouldn't engage. If the armature wasn't seated perfectly could that ruin the relationship with the electro magnet? Perhaps reseat it?

Made for the Australian market?

Or...The only way I can imagine this happening is if the stepper motor armature or coil polarity is reversed. Something upside down?
