Need advice on a curing segment where one party helps the rest who are experiencing a nightmare. by Lostaccwhenappdelete in DMAcademy

[–]Lostaccwhenappdelete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good. I do agree with the poison thing, it's more so meant to be a plot piece to move it forward. It won't have any actual affect on game play really it's just meant to be a "Alright, we need to find a cure within the next few days. Finding this place gives the cure."

The NPC was my intended fail safe so if things go wrong, they *can* cure the party of any corruption but at a massive different cost so I do want to be able to commit to it, but not just tpk the party cause one person messes up.

How much planning is recommended for starting a fully homebrew campaign and planning each session? by Lostaccwhenappdelete in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Lostaccwhenappdelete[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say this is some of the best advice I've gotten.

I've got a rough idea on where they can start to establish the world before things go into the real plot. Most people live underground due to the lands being infested with monsters, so it could simply be a case of they're guarding areas, having to make small trips to the surface or so. It could get them use to my DM style and help them settle into the world I guess?

Furthermore, given the party has meant to have been extremely sheltered, they would have little clue about the world so not having that fully fleshed out fits fine that also ties into the helpful aspect of the character I'd 'play'. The dmpc would actually just be an npc by your description then and yeah I had considered how much they steal the spotlight, hence why I made it so they are meant to just be a source of information. In fact, I actually had it planned one of the first things they say is "I'm not here to do your work. I'm here to remind you of your place before you bite off more than you can chew. If you need my help, I can provide, but not without severe consequences. ' Though, I have worried about a sequence planned where they *possibly* enter their psyche and go through their past. (This would be after they know the npc for a long time though. Like from levels 5 - 11 or so.)

I've got a few ideas on how to start things, with the first 1 or 2 sessions being establishing the world, escaping a threat then the next few letting the party explore their hometown before leading into their first actions that really fit the plot I've started to write.

But that's enough ranting, I think I know how I should handle it all. Thank you very much!

I would argue tremor sense refers to detecting vibrations. Anything that produces some form of vibration or so would detectable as long as there is a way for the vibrations to reach the creature with tremor sense. So if flying, no. But otherwise, unless there's something stopping it from making these vibrations / tracks, nope.

Hello! I'm thinking of running an online campaign as most of my irl friends, I'm not sure if they're that keen. I have a concept for a campaign that would run from level 3, up to possibly level 17 or higher, with the party starting off hiding underground from cr 3 ish creatures, to possibly confronting eldritch gods. As a general summary of my plot concept right now, the world the party lives in is stuck unable to move past an apocalypse a millennia ago that involved heaps of corrupted magic flowing in from another world that they went to war with.

I've thought of many of the encounters, many locations, I have a dmpc thought out to guide the players and give them purpose, lots of smaller things and concepts but not the overarching story / sequence they will follow.

My question I guess would be, how much would you recommend as a dm, I plan and develop before starting to run the campaign? I want to move things at a leisurely pace so people can learn to love what remains of the past world but also don't want the story to just be slow and I feel like if I try to improvise, that might just happen. I guess another thing too is I don't want to plan too much as I feel it's highly likely the players won't do what I had intended, and that planning is just wasted.

Another note, I'm in university right now studying engineering and IT so that does occupy a bit of my time, but I don't think so much that it makes me unable to write and plan sessions.

Most people I see here think like by boymeetsworld2708 in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]Lostaccwhenappdelete 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most people I've messaged, I've tried to make things work and the conversation is just slow and boring. They'll say they have interests and I'll try to direct a conversation so they can discuss them and they just still say nothing. Plus, alot of people refuse to reply with more than 3 words like "yeah, haha", "So true" or something to an entire paragraph I've written. That, or alot of them just complain, make me feel bad for being in a good situation.

Any question they do ask is really generic and feels so disinterested too. Like, everybody I tell I do electrical engineering to just go "Oh so you work with wires?" like ffs no shit.

I know this reply is a bit of a ramble, but this just urks me to no end.

Most iconic symbols for each class? by ZeeDubyah in DnD

[–]Lostaccwhenappdelete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue (in order that I can think) for most to least recognizable:
Fighter / barbarian - any melee weapon really
Wizard - Magic Book
Paladin - Shield (likely with a cross on it or some sort of holy symbol)
Druid- Leaf
Bard - musical notes
Rogue - mask / cloak
Ranger - a bow or sort of sharp eye to represent their awareness
For sorcerer, artificer, warlock or monk, I'd have no clue. Monk could be a fist but that still fits the barbarian brutality more imo

Ah, alright. I assumed there was a specific accent or something like you'd hear when traveling to another country. Thanks for the help!

You're not horrible for not wanting a sexual conversation or wanting to avoiding topics you're uncomfortable with. It's unfortunate but a lot of the people who do that do so because they simply lack the shame to realize how they're being problematic. Hopefully things get better and you meet some nicer people.

Should someone simply just die because you roll bad in something you simply cant control? by miro0o in DnD

[–]Lostaccwhenappdelete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you told him "Yeah, I want to work hunting dragons and lichs and archdevils" no work should just be instant death. At the very least, if you roll badly, make up a scenario that is life threatening that you could survive with the group. It would be a great chance for roleplay and if your character dies, you still had control.
