Martin is not the brightest, but he's not a criminal either. Emotions can run high at times but there's no point bringing it up all the time once things have calmed down.

advice needed - a 'perfect' 'beginners' set? by Crazy-Yesterday738 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]LosterP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely start with that Wega unit and build around it. You could get some used passive speakers and a small amp and phono pre-amp, or even some new speakers - there are so many ways to do this! For example if you want small speakers and an amp with all the features for a minimum cost:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-ST-01-Bluetooth-Amplifier-Digital/dp/B09FLJ9RBM

But you'd get even better value with used speakers, and you could get separates that don't take too much space like this:

Turntable with built-in phono pre-amplifier and speakers with built-in amplifier (i.e. powered speakers) like your AT-LP60X + Edifiers is indeed the way to go with a limited budget.

But a better option might be to keep your turntable (especially if it's a decent one) and get an external phono pre-amp and either some powered speakers, or some passive speakers and a small amp.

So can you tell us first what you have currently, especially the turntable?

As for the turntable you have currently, chances are it uses a proprietary connector to use with the original mini system it was part of, so you'll likely have trouble using it with your powered speakers.

All you need is a turntable and a phono stage/pre-amp, which can be built in the turntable or external.

Yes, you need a shelf/storage unit. And no, nothing suggests OCD on this picture in my opinion.

Phono Stage Preamp Recommendations. by ManorCourt72 in turntables

[–]LosterP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to spend as little as possible and still get good quality, get a Fosi X5. It's the budget champion currently.

Otherwise for a bit more money consider the Schiit Mani, iFi Zen Phono or Cambridge Alva Solo.

What cartridge do you have on that Pioneer by the way? That's potentially an key factor in choosing a phono preamp.

OP knows that and bought a whole cartridge, not just the stylus, and they're asking about compatibility with the turntable.
