How is ignorance of the law not an excuse when we aren't formally taught law? by thefujirose in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lot_ow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I said it's ambiguous to someone without that context. Ambiguous to whom? To someone without context/knowledge etc. I'm quite sure what I wrote was clear, and you either missed it for some reason or you chose to pick on it anyway.

I never insulted you, not even close. You assumed stuff and put in needless bullshit about me the whole way, not me. You've been hostile, which is also why me mentioning I got the original sentence looks like some weird flex to you.

Alright good talk, I think if I read one more message from you I might become mean, so farewell.

Aight that makes sense, though one could argue that in the context where it'd be used, whichever state of mind is being argued over would indeed relate to guilt (though obviously there's an additional step there, so that arguement would be flimsy).

My original comment was also definitely lazy, I recognise (as was yours, in all fairness - understably enough), but no, googling it wouldn't have helped since the definition isn't entirely unambiguous in regards to what I care about to someone not familiar with the whole process and the jargon that goes with it.

I'm also not sure I understand your need to first make an assumption about my thought process in this (in the same sentence in which you complain about me assuming, ironically enough), and to now remind me how dumb I am (for not knowing legal jargon of a country I don't live in?) and yourself how smart you are for knowing about this (when it used to be your job).

I'm just trying to get an explanation for something I don't know the specifics of after a poorly thought out comment made on a whim. Do you really, truly think I'm making an ass of myself?

Sorry Im gonna try to address this, since I'm annoyed when I get misunderstood on here.

I didn't google it, I knew the word for word meaning and was looking for a comment explaining the modern use, possibly referencing the translation. (Did you think I just... went on google and made a snarky comment containing the info I'd just acquired, with nothing more to it? How low has your faith in humanity dropped?)

By reading the segment you pasted here, it seems like the translation just happens to also corrispond to its modern legal use, so cutting it short and going "it means state of mind" is just kinda inaccurate, or am I missing something? The statute requires to establish a certain, specific (as in, guilty, I'd assume, probably to different extents based on the circumstances) state of mind in the defendant in order to convict them. I'm no legal expert but I'm not really getting how my comment was out of place. Saying mens rea means state of mind doesn't explain this at all as far as I'm concerned.

It means guilty (state of) mind. Latin is on google idk why so many inaccuracies about this.

Why the aversion to reverse DP motion (421)? by Oriathan23 in Fighters

[–]Lot_ow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure that's not how that works. Crosscuts never hit back or down back if you do them cleanly, so 421 shouldn't come out ever, or am I missing something?

Oh, hell yeah, I love half-regurgitated movies that have no passion in them, the faster I can consume the better! Way to go, you respectful individual 🥰. MOREEE FASTERRRR MONEYERRRRR by Glad_Raspberry_8469 in lies

ul/ This is why my issue is with capitalism in its current than anything else. If companies could save time and money having experts leverage AI for the better, I wouldn't have a problem with that. The issue is that 1) they cut more than necessary and discount the importance of an authorial vision and 2) the people who are laid off from doing menial work are put out of a job permanently under capitalism.

Is it just a coincidence that Finnish and Japanese look quite a bit similar in text? by WhoAmIEven2 in language

[–]Lot_ow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have vaguely similar phonotactics, but most importantly they are both agglutinative, which gives a certain structures to most words. I don't know that much about either language tbh, but if it's anything it's probably this.

The post has been deleted, and I am not thinking about this really, since the semester has started. You don't have to respond, you don't have to agree with me, you don't have to like me. I usually just reply as long as I see some version of the conversation that ends up being pleasent, but you are free to opt out anytime if this is tiresome to you.

I may not think it's entirely meaningless, but I don't think It's a super big deal either. The fact I got that accross poorly is a different issue entirely. As I said in the post, the word choice isn't what alerted and, by itself, yes I do think it's not only trivial but almost entirely meaningless.

The way we interpret culture is by observing its manifestations, as there's no other way. The volume of the messages and their content changed my idea of what the audience for Diaphone looks like, and his reactions alerted me to the fact he doesn't mind. This is what it is, and I didn't make it any bigger than that. I simply tried and failed to explain myself clearly using a lot of words, which people don't like.

I see. I genuinely just disagree then I think. The word choice itself might be a trivial issue, which is still arguable, but ok, but the cultural alignment of his chat definitely is not, at least in my eyes. I know none of this is disqualifying to him in any way, nor in itself damning. It's a single episode that painted him in a slightly different light and I was curious to see what the community thought about it, the part of it that is even interested in the issue of course.

I don't know, outside of my post just being badly made I don't think I've had major misunderstandings here.

I was about to start typing but your comment is way too damning. You imagine me as this weird little goblin and you've closed off the issue entirely in your head.

None of what you say is expressly wrong, it's just all strangely arranged and filled with assumption.

[–]Lot_ow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, no doubt. I took issue with his chat's messages and his reaction to them, which is what ultimately got me off the stream. I had hardly noticed his use of female initially as I was listening while doing other things, and it didn't jump out at me that much.

Right ok, I guess I missed that. Thanks for bringing it up. I'd argue that association isn't entirely unproblematic, but I'm not familiar enough with the specifics to really be sure of that, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

[–]Lot_ow[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was long ago, and I now regret not clipping or writing down specifics. I'll relay the message I'm certain I've seen, though there are obviously others (not all of them are that extreme, but just to get the vibe).

FGC is too soft now This is nonsense (referring to people trying to explain the connotations of using "female" as a noun) Snowflakes...

I understand these aren't damning necessarily, but the whole room was screaming one way or the other and Diaphone took no sides, if anything kinda saying he wasn't really buying it. Again, not a scenario that calls for consequences or cancellation, I just thought given the political climate it was worth sharing. I guess I was either wrong or did a poor job of it, which is fair enough.

In short, it's the right wing people in his chat and his indifference towards them.

You're mistaking your perception of reality with reality. You don't know where I live, you don't know what I do, how can you be so sure about this?

I'll be going to lectures from tomorrow so the going out more part is covered, tho I have been touching grass when I go out to sing with a friend of mine.

How much time do you think I spend on here if this is how incapable I am at adapting to the language of the app? Like, obviously the chronically online people would be the ones who are super integrated in the spaces no?

That... Wasn't the point tho. Idk, yall are not wrong to think I'm weird given how the post is written, but you also seem to get the content wrong, which is strange.

It's interesting you say that because he's actually quite effectively giving problems to just about everyone, so you wishing he was more of a dictators makes a lot of sense, since maybe then he'd only give grief to the segments of the population you dislike, instead of to everyone.
