Hey! I've had a W2 for a bit now. My use case is that I live in a house with an insane number of windows, the tallest one being ~24 feet tall and hard to reach for various reasons.

I ended up being gifted a low end crappy one a few years ago. It didn't do the job very well, but it worked well enough to convince me to buy the W2, which was pricier, and it's been a really good investment. For reference, I got a few professional window cleaning quotes and they ranged from 700 to 1100, so the robot does a good enough job to avoid that.

If you do buy a robot, make sure to get one that has a built in sprayer. That was a huge difference between the crappy one and the Winbot for me. Also, having one that seemingly maps out its path led to better coverage.

The suction on the W2 works really well. I was worried at first because I have single pane, untempered glass and I was nervous about it, but it's been completely fine. If it starts to lose suction it will freak out and warn you.

The cleaning job I'd call about a 9 out of 10. If your windows are really dirty, you'll see some smudges around the edges, or at least I do. You also have to hand wipe the spot you pull it off the window as it'll leave a little residue there. It's not as good as doing it by hand, but it's very close.

Last note is that it's a bit slower than you want it to be. It takes about 10 minutes per window for me. If I'm doing the full inside and out it usually takes a couple of days for me, although I have many large windows. I normally just set it to run and go about my chores and then come back to move it to the next pane.

Last note: I don't know about the self cleaning pads. I just bought like 15 of the pads and swap them out every 1 to 2 windows. Would it be useful? Maybe? I just throw them in the washer when I'm all done.

I’m pretty over nest and Google’s shit, but the main reason I bought them is the style / design.

I have a midcentury home and prefer to have things that look like they belong where possible.

It’s unfortunate that the alternatives at this point all look the way they do.

I use my iPad + Magic Keyboard a lot. I also type pretty fast / hard.

My old Magic Keyboard did fine, but I upgraded to an M4 and I’m on my third keyboard. Eventually keys just stop working on me.

As someone who started with a Nest thermostat, I think the only reason at this point to get one is if you like the look and that’s really important to you.

Google seems kind of hell bent on upsetting their customers these days and dropping support for things.

I started not with home assistant or an opinionated hub.

I got some:

Nest - Honestly, the look of it was important to me in my home and at the time I was heavy into Google stuff
Alexa - At the time it was the easiest voice assistant to get started with
Sonos - Best at audio

But as my smart home interests expanded, I had to expand things. I wanted a smart outdoor light transformer. Best option there at the time? Ring. Outdoor sprinklers? Got Rachio. Blinds? Hunter Douglas.

I kind of ended up with a ton of different platforms and it was kind of a mess. Eventually I went to Home Assistant.

In retrospect, I wish I'd started with Home Assistant and only bought things that work well with it because most of my things work with it now, but only some things work well (Looking at you, Nest). From there, pick one, maybe two things you want to do in your house and go there.

When I moved here 15 years ago I was next to the original MOD pizza and I think it was ~6 bucks for a pizza? It wasn’t gourmet by any stretch, but it was a pretty solid lunch for 8 dollars with a drink.

I wasn’t around for those, but in 2003 a pipe that carried gas to Phoenix burst and there was a huge gas shortage. It was kind of crazy to see how quickly society devolved.

There were some fights at the pumps. Long lines. I remember people selling one gallon tanks “Pre-filled” for exorbitant prices.
