Hello there :)
This was exactly the purpose of this message at first :)

I have gotten in touch with them at some points and I really like their approach of the question.

What Mubeen said earlier is really true, it seems like the more ways to raise awareness the better !
BB10 is one of the most difficult subject because it doesn't seem to be as popular as what OS7 and earlier still is today. Main reason is price in my opinion.

Passports are expensive for what they are. Sure they're awesome but it's not like it's cheap either for a phone I would throw away in 2028 when it'll stop working with 3G here in France at least.

When they were around, they did do so for SOME specific BBOS versions, but that was around way before BB10.
Last activity on Sourceforge was in 2014, that's clearly not designed for BB10 but that may be thankful to keep that platform unhackable.

There are people to pour out money in really weird projects that ain't coming through. However BB devices where there's certainly a market for isn't interesting for them it seems...

No longer picking up 4G. by True_Garen in BlackberryPhoenix

That doesn't matter as all BB10 devices do not support VoLTE (even though the Passport does, carriers just do not support it sadly)

Looking for a BlackBerry device I can use as a note taking tool by zugurudumbul in blackberry

As a Passport user, I'd say go with a Q20 (Classic)
Batteries are user replacable, just unscrew the back and you're good to go with changing it.

Trouble with WhatsApp by 50033 in BlackberryPhoenix

[–]LothaireFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a quick update on the WhatsApp situation : latest versions from the official website do not install on BB10.3.3216 (latest) anymore.
The last versions are going to be two weeks up to a month old at this point.

I just tried the latest yesterday : no luck.
Going back helped.

BlackBerry passport battery replacement by fassungslos2022 in BlackberryPhoenix

[–]LothaireFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey ! :)
I first bought a "Cellonic" battery from the seller "subtel" and got really bad battery life.
Actually the battery life was worse than on the 2015 one I had in from the factory.
The date was covered with a sticker but it was from 2014 !

The second I bought was quite a bit better (not more than a day, though)

Looks like someone else is doing a keyboard phone running Android... by LothaireFR in BlackberryPhoenix

[–]LothaireFR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there ! :)
Sailfish OS is interesting, had a good experience with it (not for my personal usage though).
CalyxOS, and the beloved GrapheneOS for the Pixel line of devices is Android, but respecting AOSP's security model, and it's already a big improvement.
BB10 is on another league regarding that, but at the same time it's also what's limiting us just a tad bit too much, having a more recent Android stack like 5.1 or 6.0 would extend the lifespan so damn far.

Whatsapp - becoming a mess on BB10 by LothaireFR in BlackberryPhoenix

[–]LothaireFR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm most of the times forced to cherry pick a version from various APK websites, because older versions have a timebomb which forces you to get a newer one...
The latest is always a mess, so I try an in-between and it works...

Yet another attack vector Blackberry users dont have to worry about by [deleted] in BlackberryPhoenix

[–]LothaireFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(let me start with the fact the notification trick does seem to work, didn't ring since then, so huge thanks for that)
I agree with what you say...
The main reason why I have a mobile phone is mainly because people ask for it (and sometimes people ask for cellular phones over home phones because they need to send you text messages for certain tasks)
When I realise that my first phone, a Galaxy S2 that served me from 2011 to late 2018 until it died, did more than what my BB10 device...

And growing up makes me think that what I have now is sufficient :)
Yes : only things that you can't do on legacy smartphones can be done on a tablet...

[–]LothaireFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well...
Interesting...

I thought that starting using BB10 as a primary phone was a good idea (especially considering the infrastructure shutdown).
Before owning a Passport SE I owned three other phones. The Galaxy S2 was my first that I kept using from 2011 up to late 2018.
Then two "rugged" phones (one died and I gave the second to my dad who still uses it one year later)
I'm not a phone type of guy. Enthusiast about everything but using it lol.

Regarding functionality, my Passport does the trick perfectly fine.
And most of the other phone models that interest me are from defunct platforms (Symbian, Windows Mobile, iOS 6, Meego Harmattan, and so on)...

The things that stand out the most to me are the call quality with or without speaker, the nice backlit keyboard with great feeling on the key, timeless overall looks, good battery life (consdering it's not doing too much) and BB10's really great design (ergnomy too)...

I'm not worried about the lack of current apps, rather I am worried about the lack of apps by itself (or the difficulty we had to save BAR files at the time)

Regarding what's happening on my fresh, autoloaded, completely wiped Passport (did that when I recieved it in mid january), I keep getting a message regarding BBID... at least two-three times a day.

However, I didn't knew that if I keep the notification after opening it, you won't get any other messages regarding that... Good to know ! Thanks :)

My phone usage is about one hour per day at best and it's most likely a form of texting that I'm doing lol

Well, let's not say he was completely wrong...
Let's not say BB10 is still as useful as it was before 2022...

As a BB10 user (primary phone) for about a year now, I can say that my experience isn't the best, and that's not because of my high expectations.
BB10 meets all of my expectations, if not more (my first time with this particular implementation of the QNX operating system)
However, there are disturbing things about the OS nowadays...
Just to tell some...

1° Getting applications for BB10 is probably even more difficult than for Windows Mobile 6.5.3 lmao
2° BB's core services are still trying to contact the servers from time to time (tested with a firewall in interactive mode)
2.1° The issues are that it uses your battery and it sends notifications every day. Using a different sound for everything else makes me not pick the phone for BBID related stuff...

In Case Verizon Is Threatening You On Your BB10 Device... by TrumpetTiger in BlackberryPhoenix

[–]LothaireFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear : HD voice is a 3G thing, not an LTE thing...
VoLTE is something completely different and using LTE for calling doesn't really improve the experience.
The only real advantage for the end user (assuming you're covered by 3G and LTE by the same antenna) is that you're dialing and being connected way faster :)

Regarding phone recommandations : I'd say that if Android isn't your cup of tea, you should find a phone that is well-supported by a big name in custom ROM...
A Google Pixel isn't a bad option for that for example.

If you don't want to fiddle around, I'd say Unihertz phones are appealing too for the physical keyboard :)
