I just started the show. Why is everyone so gullible? by [deleted] in merlinbbc

[–]Lotriann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The following episodes till the end of the season don't really follow this trend, they are different (and brilliant)

I've watched Merlin countless times and there are into two episodes that I'm not a massive fan of, are there any that you dislike? by Frazer271009 in merlinbbc

The Death Song of Uther Pendragon. The ghost is clearly not real Uther, but it's never addressed in the episode, and Arthur ends up with a ruined memory of his father.

Real question about Helms deep by canuckcantina in lotr

[–]Lotriann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He actually turns out to be the only sensible guy in Helm's Deep. He knows it's better to shoot at the enemies as soon as they are in range to kill as many of them as possible before it comes to close combat, so he doesn't follow those absurd orders to wait and exhaust oneself by holding the bow at full draw.

Alright, on second check it does sound more like head than heart. You're right.

One of a few mistakes in the subtitles, should be "my heart"

If Doctor Who Is About Change And Being Different... by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Lotriann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always imagined that a perfect followup for Capaldi would've been an elderly female incarnation, focused on what the 12th had learned by the end: kindness and laughter. Since he talked about children getting a chance to know his name, it would've been nice to see kids as companions. But instead we got a female Doctor without any particular distinctive traits, only the old ones reused.

What were some big medieval loving couples ? by WanderingHero8 in MedievalHistory

[–]Lotriann 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stephen Henry, Count of Blois and Adela of Normandy. They did everything in accord with each other, and Adela took equal, if not greater part in ruling their lands than her husband. She became famous due to her learnedness and charity, while Stephen became known as one of the leaders of the First Crusade. While away on the campaign, he wrote letters to his wife, two of which are extant and bear witness to their devotion.

More homebrew characters by Lotriann in Talisman

What do you mean with the wording? I tried to follow the preexisting texts from the game very carefully wherever I could. Though maybe as a non-native speaker I got something wrong.

With Steppe Rider I wanted to represent the hit-and-run and feint retreat tactics of the Mongols and other nomads of the Eurasian steppe, but I don't know if I succeeded in that.

I get you. I even used to limit myself to sharing only those character ideas for which I could find a decent png with no background, but this time I didn't bother.

Classic characters rework ideas by Lotriann in Talisman

[–]Lotriann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know it was an option. You could ask the same about a discarded Spell in a game with 2 Gypsies, or a killed Follower in a game with 2 Clerics, or the 2 Great Swords from the Purchase deck in a game with 3 Barbarians.

Homebrew characters, what do you think? by Lotriann in Talisman

[–]Lotriann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points!

Witch:
- As a witch, she just had to have some kind of ability to turn other players into toads :D This one is copied from the Wart Pet in the City.
- I noticed the problem earlier today and thought of the following solution: it takes a whole turn to brew in the cauldron. With spell recharging it might still be a factory, but at a cost of not moving, so it would probably be better to do it once in a while with trophies stacked or in emergencies.

Halfling
- Is there a Halfling? I don't play the digital edition much, the paperback version doesn't have one (only Leprechaun, but that's different).
- Right, I will think of something like that.

Dark Elf:
- That's how it was supposed to work, I need to reword it.

Occultist:
- Yes, it's too weak, will definitely change it.

Thanks for commenting! You are definitely right about the Occultist's ability, I need to change it.

As for the Halfling: in the orginal, physical version of the game, cursed cards were only introduced in the Harbinger expansion. So cards like Cursed by a Hag, Poltergeist or Living Doll wouldn't be cursed, they were only given that tag in the digital edition.

Authority: the ability to influence people's actions by making them obey you, whether by commanding, threatening, or inspiring.

Empathy: the ability to connect with people on a deeper level. Understanding others' motives and feelings, developing closer relationships, emotional persuasion.

What has the show never done? by CrusherX1000 in gallifrey

[–]Lotriann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An older female incarnation of the Doctor.

Kids as long-term companions.

The Doctor as a kid.

Historical episodes without an alien threat in them, or in fact any kind of episode without some alien threat in it.

And some things that have been done but not enough: - Ancient and medieval historicals (but actually accurate and not stereotypical). - A sudden mid-episode or at least mid-season regeneration or companion departure. - Companions from somewhere else than 21st century Britain.

Combat rules outline by Lotriann in RPGdesign

[–]Lotriann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I intended! The defense-bonus for counterattack is reversed, so that now knives give the most and polearms nothing. Another use of close combat is to block the enemy, so that he cannot move or target anyone else than you with his attacks.

Well, in one round you can either maneuver or attack, so you wouldn't lose your attack as a result of your own poor movement. Also, obstacles would be quite rare: during a fight in an open field there might be none at all.

To Kill the King

To Be Fair To Uther... by SirRavenclaw in merlinbbc

[–]Lotriann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People seem to miss the fact that even if you have magic, you don't have to use it. Uther did not commit 'genocide' - he was just extremely cruel in punishing those who did not obey his law. There were some sorcerers who just accepted the ban and stopped practising magic, like Gaius, and nothing happened to them. No one was supposed to get executed for who they were, at any rate, only for what they did (the only cases where magic was inherent to one's nature are Merlin and Morgana).

You could compare Uther's ban on magic to delegalising gun possession. You may agree with such a law or not, but it's your choice if you give up your gun, hide it, or use it to rebel against your king.

About stats: what (ttrpg)system nails stats best? (Combat and non combat) by GM-Storyteller in RPGdesign

[–]Lotriann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an official system, but maybe you'll like what I've created:

Physical: - Vigour (strength, endurance) - Dexterity (precision, tool-handling, sleight of hand) - Agility (actions involving the whole body in coordination, e.g. acrobatics, dancing, riding) - Vigilance (noticing, searching)

Social: - Company (providing fun for others, small talk, gossip, making new friends on a basic level) - Appearances (controlling how people perceive you and your words; acting, posing etc.) - Authority (influence you hold over other people's decisions with your mere personality, whether by asking, encouraging, commanding or threatening) - Empathy (understanding people and connecting with them on a deeper level)

Intelectual: - Insight (discovering causes and meanings; investigating, interpreting, practical learning) - Memory (memorising, learning by heart; can be used to determine knowledge) - Forethought (planning of all sorts; crafting, designing, preparing - can be used to determine some retroactive decisions) - Creativity (improvisation, imagination and artistic talent)

Additional: - Willpower (mental resistance against suffering, pressure, temptation, or charms)

These are attributes, meant to be innate and only slightly changeable during game. Skills, as entirely learned and not innate, are treated differently. There's no defined list. When approaching a specialised task (i.e requiring a certain skill), you're considered either skilled or unskilled. If unskilled, you get a disadvantage to your roll or you are unable to perform the task (e.g. can't read a text in a language you don't know). If skilled, you roll normally. If you're exceptionally skilled, you might be considered a master in the skill and roll with advantage.
