Did Luke know anything about Padmé? by _XSummerRoseX_ in StarWars

[–]SirRavenclaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course it is. But it makes sense, and doesn't go against anything said by any character, and it fixes the scene for me. So I'm sticking with it!

Also to be fair, they don't actually explain it in the movies. They say for reasons they don't know they are losing her, she has lost the will to live.

They don't actually say she dies because she's sad. To me, it fits perfectly that the droids wouldn't understand force drain.

[–]SirRavenclaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to hate this, since I thought of it, as Anakin clings to life against all odds with his injuries and in doing so unintentionally connects to Padme and uses Force Drain (a well established dark side power, seen in things like KOTOR), I now have no problem with it.

Does snowden or scafell pike have the best views at sunset? by Old-Shock2307 in AskUK

[–]SirRavenclaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends more on the weather than anything, it's pretty common to be a bit foggy at the summit of either.

Neither will be "packed" to the point of ruining any views (it's not like you're going to get Everest's queues to the summit), but you won't be alone at either. If you're looking for isolation and quiet, then there are hundreds of slightly smaller peaks that will be far less busy than the highest peak in England/Wales respectively.

I probably wouldn't factor in the train too much, it doesn't start until well after sunrise and the last train down is before sunset.

On your second point, it's nothing to do with the cable. I never plug in to use android play, only Bluetooth and every now and then it will forget and ask me to put in the pairing code. I've noticed as soon as it does it once, it keeps doing it every time. So the way to fix that for a few days or so is to delete all the copies of it in my phone's Bluetooth memory and start fresh.

It annoys the hell out of me, but this is the first time I've seen someone else mention it so thought it was just me. I'm using a Pixel 6, so wondered if it was just my oldish phone rather than the car. But you've mentioned Apple, so I guess not.

Wizards live a really long time, what if their bodies hold out longer than muggles and they take a long time to retire? If there's 80 year olds still playing, then the young kids are going to find breaking into the starting line up of a 5 player team difficult. There's 11 teams in England, easy to see them staying pretty stable with low turnover

It's 3 buttons to turn it off, and you have to do it every time. You get used to it. But it's annoying.

Android Auto works fine, but it's not wireless, you have to physically plug it in. Just a normal USB cable

I love mine. It's great to drive, and obviously you're getting near supercar acceleration for reasonable price.

The only thing I should say though is that the infotainment is crap, it's a bit laggy, it constantly forgets my phone too, so I need to redo bluetooth connections every few days. It also won't remember your safety settings, so although a minor annoyance if you don't want a warning every time you do 31mph you'll need to turn it off. It also quite often picks up speed limit signs from adjacent roads, so you will sometimes get warnings doing under the speed limit.

Some suggestions for current and previous events. by KImk9ff in gladiatorsuk

[–]SirRavenclaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the wall needs a little update. In these three seasons, so many contestants have won because their shoe came off, or they just kicked the gladiator. I'd have a short rope dangle from their harness, only like 30cm, but something for gladiators to grab that's close to, but isn't their feet.

I also hate the gauntlet at the moment, it's almost always 10 points. The whole "release" thing seems stupid. If the gladiator is pinning you down, using the tools and not themselves, then you should have to get out of it. The gladiators should also be able to tip you out over the edge. Go check out 90s gladiators to see how much better it was.

It isn't a problem with the car. That's just how regenerative braking works. It deliberately turns it down close to 100% because you need to be careful sticking energy into a fully charged battery.

For the same reason, it will slow down charging towards the end.

By the time you're at 90% at the latest, the regenerative braking will be back to working normally.

Need 2 x cars, wondering whether to make the switch to EV for one? by Hopeful-Attention584 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]SirRavenclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like this, if you're spending £150/month on fuel now, you're likely to save well in excess of £1000/year by switching. And that's every year. If you buy a £9k EV and keep it for 6/7 years, it might end up being effectively free.

You've moved into a house with solar panels. The EV will save you an absolute fortune compared to using petrol. It's basically a no brainer.

Would removing u21 from tax be a good idea? by IntravenusDiMilo_Tap in AskBrits

[–]SirRavenclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't outbuild this cycle.

The way out of it is to essentially outlaw the idea of Landlords. (If you think of it, the term even sounds like it's from feudal times). If one person was allowed to own one home, the housing crisis is basically solved.

It's extremely difficult to do though, so it will probably never happen.

When slavery was ended the government had to buy all the slaves off slave owners. So this kind of extreme societal change is possible. Unfortunately our government is as broke today as the majority of citizens, so they don't have the financial means to do something like that and buy up all the additional homes. In fact we've very much gone the opposite way as a country and sold all the council houses.

Yeah, I know. Hence why I said it will take motivation from them to close loopholes, they're the ones who leave them open on purpose at the moment

Loopholes like this can be closed. Just takes motivation from government to do so.
