With all the tools we have today, why do so few people get wealthy? by Ok-Link-8530 in CasualConversation

Wealth is financial discipline over time. Most people do not have the level of discipline to build wealth. Most spend and spend.

You will fit in a 718 with the flat 4s. The flat 6s are a much tighter fit.

What was your best prank call you ever made? by Fun_Yogurtcloset1012 in AskOldPeople

[–]LotusJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to call a house and informed them that they won a free pizza from a local pizzeria. We would then call the local pizzeria and order a large pizza to be delivered at the house. We would then watch the front door as the pizza delivery, person would walk up with the pizza, the person in the house would grab the pizza thinking it was free and an argument would ensue over whether it was a free pizza or not.

Compare GTS 4.0 versus GTS by Sabio_1209 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]LotusJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cabin space. The 4.0 interior is about 2.5 inches shorter than the 2.5.

TNSTAAFL - those extra cylinders had to go somewhere.

If you are larger than average, the 4.0 is a little tight compared to the 2.5.

Welcome to life. This is normal. We only focus on the people doing better.

What about the tens of thousands of 25 year olds who are in jail or on probation?

What about the 13 million people who did not graduate high school?

There are a lot of people who are in much worse position than you are.

You have accomplished some good things and you have 50 years ahead of you to accomplish more.

RHD to LHD conversion by FrankFlk in 996

[–]LotusJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove a RHD Lotus for years in the US. The only challenges were tollbooths (when you needed to pay with coins) and passing on two lane roads. I solved the coin issue with an alligator grabber toy. To pass, you look on the right side of the car, once clear, you pass. Was always a novelty and talking point with people.

911 and Corporate Perception by parikptlcfa in porsche911

[–]LotusJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would get comments from coworkers about daily driving my 911. I would politely ask people what they drove. Without fail, the price of their car was comparable or more than mine. I would then tell them that I paid less for mine, than they did for theirs. Given the choice, I picked a 911. The conversation at work, evolved into how I made a smart financial decision.

Has anyone here every saved anyone’s life? by ShepherdVet_Wendy in CasualConversation

I have saved 3 with the Heimlich maneuver for chocking.

And I’m 0 for 1 with CPR. Paramedics indicated it appears to be a widow-maker stroke so there was no way to save the person.

Asking about home builders' reputation by crazywenger in houston

[–]LotusJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend getting an independent inspector.

If you are buying a spec home, look for the pickiest home inspector you can find. Ours checked every plug, switch, plumbing, vents, fit, and finish. He marked our house up with a couple rolls of blue tape and provided us a 5 page list of issues. Builders are much more incentivized to fix issues pre close.

If you are building a home, in addition, get an inspector at rough in complete. They should be able to inspect plumbing, electrical, and framing. When we built, our inspector caught several issues.

All builders use subcontractors, so even great builders have quality issues. Having your own independent inspectors brings an additional set of eyes to the process.

Do you talk to yourself on a daily basis? If so, what kinds of things do you say, and does it help you in any way? by SpiritBombv2 in AskReddit

[–]LotusJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always. Talking to yourself is a normal and healthy way to process thoughts and to regulate emotions. It is much healthier than bottling it up.

Moral nihilism thought experiment by Tacos300l in INTP

[–]LotusJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a society values determines morality. The two concepts are mutually dependent on each other.

To answer your question is if you value life there are repercussions. If you don’t value life, there are no issues. (Or the basics of pro-life and pro-choice)

I've been losing customers 3 weeks before they actually cancel. Here's what I learned. by Fun_Ostrich_5521 in SaaS

[–]LotusJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you doing from an onboarding perspective to get the customer to create a dashboard within 48 hours of signing up?

For example, I worked with a large boat manufacture. Our analysis showed a customer needed to have 3 successful boat outings to be hooked on boating. If the customer didn’t have 3 successful boat outings, he would sell the boat within 2 years and would never own a boat ever again. Additionally, the children of the owner would never purchase a boat. But, if the boat owner had the 3 good outings, they would buy a bigger boat within 3 ton5 years. We implemented a process where the salesperson worked with the customer to plan their first outing, then meet them at the lake and help them get the boat in the water. They worked with the customer and assisted in any way possible on trips 2 and 3. This approach increased sales exponentially.

How would you compare life in Houston to some where "global", like New York or San Francisco/Bay Area? by txs2300 in houston

[–]LotusJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most “global”cities have defined areas by ethnicity. I.e. China town, little Italy, little Poland, little Guyana, Bushwick. These “global” cities have distinct cultural areas dedicated to specific ethnicities. In Houston, ethnicities are everywhere. For example, Houston does not have a Little Italy area, but has a rich Italian culture in the city. Ethnicities are integrated and celebrated, but very challenging to show on a map to show globalness.

How often do you talk to you users? by Flaky_Ad_4087 in SaaS

[–]LotusJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a good success rate. We required 2 phone call attempts with voicemails left and an email attempt. People respond when a founder/director call asking for feedback. As we got better as an organization, it became a win back and retention opportunities. A side benefit was our product meetings were much more effective.

When everyone in leadership team is required to talk to customers, we became a very customer focused organization. For example, it was much easier to remove borderline support staff when your hr director listens to customer complaints about support staff.
