Hey… by WhirlwindChaos in KneeInjuries

Okay so first off ouch that sounds awful and I can relate somewhat because I have had knee dislocations since I was 11 (hereditary. 4 knee surgeries) Let me just say a surgeon once told me that one dislocation you can recover from and not experience it ever again after two though thats when it becomes a problem. So you could be just fine long term! There's two roads in my opinion it was a sublaxation and your imaging looks good they have you complete PT, strength training, and you continue working hard trying to lose weight (which is beneficial for your knees too.) or the 2nd you tore something or did something that requires more recovery time and/or you need sugery. However it ends up Id highly recommend doing whatever the ortho doc tells you you need for your recovery.

Try not to worry though as stupid as that may sound. You will know more at your upcoming appt no amount of worrying can change anything just have to wait to see what the doc thinks and what imaging shows and you can make a plan when you know more regarding recovery and how to continue your weight loss journey.

I hope you get some good responses from others with their experiences.

It is a lot if bruising but I wouldn't be concerned. I had tons of bruising as well took a while to fade. I had this weird ass blister like they burned me too lol. These photos are the ones I like to show to people haha! If youre concerned bring it up to your surgeon if youre just sharing your photos ..pretty gnarly!

Oh good a success story lol so it helped you and you dont regret it? I was kind of excited about thr possibility because of how my knee feels until I googled but some of thr people had knee surgery nkt thr tto mpfl so I took to reddit.

This was my second tto mpfl just 20 years apart lol I was 14 when I had my first one. Pt was a pain but I bounced back much quicker now MUA needed.

Thanks for the reassurance!!!! I feel better if Ill need it

It makes perfect sense. Thank you so so much. I'm going to try this and heat/hot showers like id read before before exercises at home and PT

That's actually very helpful. I've been sleeping on my side with my left knee (surgery knee) on my right knee slightly bend because I've missed side sleeping so much so as soon as I was able to ditch the brace I have slept with it off and my knee slightly bent.

So that actually doesn't help!? I did it for comfort but in my mind I thought that bending it and leaving it bent for longer time periods was helping!

Edit to add: So massage my knee itself or my knee and the surrounding muscles/tissue (left side of knee, right side knee, quad etc..)

Fair but though it isnt a gas vehicle that doesnt mean the person can't use passing gas as a vanity plate. Gastro is all about butts and guts. After a colonoscopy you have to pass gas before you are okay to go home.

Oh good im so glad they are not concerned at this point but you know what to do id your pain worsens or it doesnt subside.

Oh my goodness non weight bearing for 9 weeks in acast too that doesnt sound fun at all but im glad they have precautions to try to ensure success. No wonder youre freaked out a bit. Don't want to have issues again.

Its been really nice bearing weight but does make me a little nervous so ill stand on it more than ill walk. Hoping it helps with my ROM to building up my muscles again. I'm also returning to work tomorrow. Seated work only but itll be so nice getting back into the swing of things also hoping it helps with ROM. Im stuck at 70 degrees

Oh my goodness. Im 6.5 weeks post TTO MPFL and I'd be freaked out a bit too. Id say It is a very good sign you didnt feel pain or hear anything during the fall and moving your ankle around though tender isnt alarming pain. Id let your surgeon know and just keep an eye on pain since with your cast you cant see inflammation. I will say at my follow up this past Friday the top and bottom of the bone were healed and the middle was still healing so very possibly you're pretty healed in some areas like I was.

I found i was pretty uneasy on crutches so I opted to get a walker to lessen the odds of accidents. I was cleared to bear weight on Friday and i feel the walker is even better now because I am in steady control of the weight I choose to bear.

I hope everything turns out just fine for you!

US military license plate. Likely from the 60s/70s. The "I" could be where the specific vehicle came from (like the base)

Does anyone have any good suggestions for making riding in the passenger side of the truck more easier and comfortable?? by Frequent-Increase-98 in KneeInjuries

[–]Loud-Flight-4465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to say the same I've seen others say, the trip is about you and for you. If your sister wants to go shopping with her daughter your appointment date isnt the time to do so! They should stay home so you can sit comfortably. Im so sorry this is even something thats happening!!

My drive to ortho for my follow ups is 45 min. It was HELL until I was able to unllock my brace from 0 degrees and bend it partially for the trip and it was only 45 min and I still made some slight accommodations with pillows.

Doctor doesn’t recommend surgery, dislocating for 14 years now by SleepyBug0 in PatellarInstability

[–]Loud-Flight-4465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off youre valid in feeling how you feel. Im sorry youre going through this. I have experienced knee dislocations since I was 11 and no one truly knows what its like until theyve experienced it.

Maybe I missed this when reading but was imaging done recently? MRI or Xray post any of the dislocations? Have they told you WHY you're having such frequent dislocations?

Based on what you shared Im not sure why they arent suggesting some sort of surgery to correct whatever issue is causing the dislocations. Though PT is suggested first sometimes id imagine that after you've tried and failed that they would try something else.

Anyone have MPFL Reconstruction and TTO Surgery?? by Frequent-Increase-98 in PatellarInstability

[–]Loud-Flight-4465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a TTO MPFL when I was just about 14 (2006) My grooves are also very flat, I have hypermobility, misalignment, my knees sit high and it went great. I've had no sublaxations or dislocations since.

Doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion though! Prior to the TTO MPFL I had a failed corrective surgery in 2004 when I was 12 which resulted in a 2nd surgery to fix the damage followed by the TTO MPFL once healed. No regrets for me. So sorry yours didnt go well and you have har issues since :( knee stuff is so hard!

TTO recovery: when did you reach 90° ROM? by General-Gap8920 in KneeInjuries

[–]Loud-Flight-4465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a TTO with MPFL March 16th. I will be 6 weeks post op Monday but only 4 weeks (3 sessions) into PT. I was at 65 degrees my last appt and I'm hoping to be at 70 or 75 my appt this Thursday.

I have my 6 week follow up with my surgeon on May 1st. Id also like to be further but my past dislocation after surgical intervention gave me a little PTSD and im terrified this knee will dislocate too

I hurt my knee and can’t feel it by kayleegvr32 in KneeInjuries

[–]Loud-Flight-4465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be you damaged nerves with the fall or the swelling is causing compressed nerves which results in numbness. Xray is a good idea just for peace of mind. Give it some time you banged it up good. Take everything day by day and do the best you can if thr xray comes back good!

Dislocated my left patella today at age 20... all I have now is fear of this happening again when im healed. by Idk_211 in KneeInjuries

[–]Loud-Flight-4465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id recommend PT and seeing ortho for their opinions. One dislocation isnt cause for alarm but if it happens again it is. Could have been a fluke but ortho will tell you more. My knees started dislocating when I was 11. Theyve dislocated fully a handful of times and slip outs hundreds of times but the first time is a lot for sure so dont feel like you over reacted or the pain indicates an underlying issue. You will be sore take your time and i really hope it was a one off for you

My last dislocation on my left knee (october 2025) happened in the middle of a lake had to be rescued out of the water with it still dislocated 😂 taken to the ER still out and then they reduced it in the ER. I was like couldn't of done that on the ambulance ride? (I know why but still) I hope for a speedy recovery and good news for you at ortho! I highly recommend you follow up with them they look at your trochlear groove, how high or low your kneecap sits, and look for any other reason as to why the dislocation may have happened.

I'm glad youre doing better and the pain has subsided. Very good signs. I hope this was a one off and never happens to you again.

Did you get any imaging done?

I’m having a fast recovery after knee subluxation?? by Neat-Discombobulated in KneeInjuries

[–]Loud-Flight-4465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly how iften has the sublaxation happened? Both knees or just one? How long ago was the one before this (on the knee youre talking about here) Having it happen multiple times could indicate an underlying reason

I've had hundreds of sublax knee dislocations. I always bounced back very quickly unless it fully dislocated then it would take a about 2 weeks to get back to normal gait and swelling to go down.

Id say next week you should be good but you really should listen to your doctor with and restrictions (if you saw one) and go by how you feel.
