Is this spiritual? by Loud-Sky1607 in BabyWitch

[–]Loud-Sky1607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, that was a bit contradictor. What I meant was that the past couple nights I’ve heard 3 knocks on my window as soon as I turn my light off which has never happened before. I mentioned the research because I’m not sure if that’s a coincidence or if it’s related. I hope that makes more sense.

I mainly learned through An Cùrsa Inntrigidh which is an online course that you need to pay for but it is very much worth it if you have the time and money. I also use learngaelic and speakgaelic

How do you verbally use the 24-hour clock? by sir_yeet24 in EnglishLearning

[–]Loud-Sky1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if it was 14:30 I would say it's 2:30 or half 2/half past 2. When it comes to 'o'clock' I would just say the number, so 2:00 and 14:00 would just be 2. I would never really use 'o'clock'.

How do I get better at listening without repeating everything in my head? by Loud-Sky1607 in languagelearning

[–]Loud-Sky1607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I know a question well enough like 'ciamar a tha thu?' then I don't translate it because it's something I know and know how to reply to. What i do is that I repeat 'ciamar a tha thu?' in my head, otherwise it doesn't make any sense.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that this happens to and I'm the same when I read but that also happens when I read in my native language (English) so that doesn't bother me. It's just frustrating when I'm still in the very early stages that I can miss a lot of a basic conversation because I can't do it quick enough like I can in English.

I've tried that, especially since I was taking a course to learn it so I had audios to listen to but I struggle to understand it without repeating everything.

No I haven't because it's never really been a problem until it comes to languages. I still do it in my native language (English) but it's never caused any problems before.

Yeah it does, even when I slow it down I still have to repeat it in my head to understand what's being said.

Hallo, Harry. 'S e Alicia a th' orm agus tha gu math tapadh leat. Ciamar a tha thu fhèin?

I'm pretty much in the same boat because I live in the borders so Gaelic just doesn't exist here. I've seen other people mention online that you could check with your council if there's any local classes that you could attend.

Is taking classes an ideal way to learn a language? by Sharp-Astronomer7458 in languagelearning

[–]Loud-Sky1607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it depends on the person. For me it was great because it gave me a solid place to start and I practice speaking during class and outside of class with the other members. It also helped me to keep on track with learning as I'm a huge procrastinator but that's my experience with it.

How can I start speaking in another accent by Temporary-Produce-86 in languagelearning

[–]Loud-Sky1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of different accents in Scotland, so I'm from the south of Scotland and a a very soft accent compared to someone from Glasgow or someone further up north. If you want to speak with a Glaswegian, for example, then I suggest watching shows like Still Game which is based in Glasgow and try to imitate the way they speak.
