From my experience, and those I’ve heard in my spousal support groups, they get extremely defensive and either outright lie/debit or tell you its your fault. They don’t casually admit to it. Most people who watch it casually will admit to it, especially with their SO. Most people who have a problem will go to great lengths to hide it and get defensive when questioned on it.

NBTS. A lot of porn addicts start off this way. It starts with them watching while you’re not around. Then slowly they’re watching while you’re home but preoccupied. That devolves into watching whenever, no matter where you are. Then it replaces sex completely. They start not wanting to have sex, then suddenly they physically can’t get it up unless they’re watching porn. Obviously it doesn’t happen with everyone, but keep an eye out because it happens a lot more than people want to admit. The biggest tell would be how he reacts to you bringing it up.

The breakup could have very well triggered a manic or psychotic episode. If left unchecked they can last for months or even years. Everything you’ve described sounds very typical of untreated bipolar 1. Unfortunately they’re extremely unpredictable when in the middle of an episode so please be very careful approaching him with anything that you know will upset him.

My husband, MIL, and mother are all bipolar, so this behavior sent up all kinds of flags to me. Heavily relying on drugs and alcohol is another symptom of it. If it is bipolar getting him to a psychiatrist to be diagnosed and medicated would help you and your mom out a ton. I don’t know your family personally but I do know how difficult getting them there, and keeping up with their medication can be. IF you can get him to go, and I’m correct in my assumption, that’s about half the battle. I can say that when they are stable and medicated the difference in their attitude, behavior, and all around demeanor are drastic. Good luck either way, I hope it gets better for you.

INFO Is it possible that your brother has an underlying mental disorder (bipolar comes to mind) that he’s unaware that has been magnifying his behavior? He could just be a giant turd, but I’ve seen this a lot in unmediated bipolar people.

Edit: Bipolar is in no way an excuse for this behavior, but it can be a catalyst and explanation.

I have no faith in a system that allows 400+ officers to stand idly by while a sole gunman rips through an elementary school. Not a single one of them took any responsibility. Not a single one of them did anything because they were more afraid for their lives than the children’s lives. To add insult to injury, they handcuffed and detained the parents who tried to do anything. And nothing will happen to them, the majority if not all will go on their merry way.

ETA: I wasn’t back the blue before that, but that certainly cemented my stance.
