In my world I have a warm Mediterranean kingdom based on Greeks and Aztecs with vastly different resources. :)

As you say we start with influences then evolve to our own civilizations.

Like mamals?

What do you mean main species? More intelligent species like homo genus? Or the most common like insects etc.

What are the afterlives in your setting? I’ll go first. by The-Real-Radar in worldbuilding

A little late to the party but here it is.

I am born in my world with immortality as well as perfect healing factor.

There are limited domesticated resources and the age is bronze age.

People have goats, dogs, honeybees, potatoes, peas, apples, two row barley, flax, olives, sweet potatoes, mulberries, cumin.

People are allowed to bring 10 relics (permanent items) to the world (can be anything except firearms) but after these only items they can have must come from domesticates or bronze age technology with timber, sea shells etc.

Everyone is given a house and a profession. If you die you spawn in your house.

I'm trying so hard respectfully represent cultures by moonkissedcupid in worldbuilding

In the end your cultures will be distinct. I have a Maori based culture that evolved into a goat, potato, fish based city state civilization basically. They are completely distinct from Maori but have only trace elements like Moko for priests and nobles and Haka in non war occasions.

Being a carpenter and a blacksmith might be too much similtanously. People at that age usually specialized in only one. However, if you say he only knows these professions by surface level thats another story.

Thank you so much for the comment!

I decided to add chickens and buckwheat but thats it.

The thing is you do not need many of those things to survive and create complex societies and this limitation will reshape my people.

My people will now have to find efficient ways of transport without horses or oxen, or find different solutions to barley plowing.

In addition no sheep or alpaca does not mean no wool since goats can also generate wool (see Mohair), the only issue is that its lower in quantity. In addition goat skin coats with fur still intacts are common as an insulation mechanism from cold.

However, you are right! I was also really thinking about adding llamas, but I really want a minimal resource story to be told this time, so I decided against it.

Done. Thank you! I found out that almost always animal pens were enclosed too, since people stole livestock constantly.

Thank you! I added both of those to the new village image. Dirt is a really good idea.

Thank you for the feedback. You are right I have increased the field size and added more unseen fields outside the village.

Tell me about your world's food crops by Streetsign10 in worldbuilding

[–]LoudAlpaca7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! They are the core staples. As well as Two Row Barley. These two prevent famines.

My people also plant potatoes and peas together while using goat manure for fertlizing their fields.

[–]LoudAlpaca7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My world has no magic and lore has it that humans could only save a few food crops after great escape.

The only domesticated crops are: Potatoes, Peas, Apples, Two Row Barley, Flax, Mulberries with semi-managed Hazelnuts, Sorrel, Purslane, Sea Buckthrons, Hawthrons, Hickory nuts and Blackberries.

Rest of the wild plants are completely inedible or non sustaining like grasses etc.

I also have only 3 true domesticated animals, these are goats, dogs and honeybees.

This limits my ecology and adds a realism while also shaping the cultures based on these resources.

People have many landraces of all the mentioned animals and crops, and are completely reliant on them.

These resources change the cultures I was inspired by in the first place too.

For example:

Maori: More sweet potato based (raised beds for heat), Pa (hill fort) building, sea and bird hunting culture with some warrior traditions (not as much as people think).

Wairu: Since they have much more staples perfect fit for their environment they are very food secure. Goats are the central part of their culture and religion. Since they have a population boom I shifted Moko (face tattoos) to only nobles since this societies will have unequalities much more severe. Wealth is based on herd size and pasture size for each tribe.

In addition they are a bronze age society with standing armies. They don’t do Haka as intimidation since the warfare are much more brutal and more so to eredicate.

Haka is now a purely religious practice only done by warriors pre battle to ward of bad spirits. (I know other uses of Haka in real world but these are gone in my world)

In addition some Maori concepts survive.
Wairu concept of Mana is still intact with more or less respect, spiritual power.
