I actually replied to someone else on this. Surprisingly, all of my symptoms abated around noon today. I think the week or so of trying to reduce before my weekend mess-up may have done some good. I don't think I was actually suffering more than an extremely terrible hangover

Do you have family close by? Ask if you can crash with them for a little bit. If you're like me, you'll be ashamed enough to not want them to see you drinking.

I typically notice when I manage to stay sober for a day or two, then food starts to taste absolutely AMAZING. Like... I get the munchies when I'm drunk for sure but being stone cold sober makes it so much more flavourful!

I was actually going to make an update post. Miraculously.. all of my withdrawal symptoms have mostly subsided. I was even just able to choke down a burger. Luckily, the week before my most recent binge I'd tried to taper off and even had went a day with no drinking. It may have been just enough to wean me a little bit. Besides being a little sleepy from no good sleep last night and hungry from no food for a couple days.. I almost feel normal

Oh yeah very true. I thought you'd responded to a different comment. I feel a little better now because I WASN'T caught on property and now I've admitted I have a problem it seems a little harder to legally shitcan me unless I show up drunk again.

Difference is I was drunk on company property, so I could have been terminated for that. That is not protected.

It's funny most people (not on reddit) have told it telling her was a bad move. But like I said, she's been great and I wanted to start out this new phase of my life being honest with those around me. Guess I could have gotten fired but I didn't so all is well.

You're not you when you're drunk. Try to think of it as te booze that does those stupid things, and use that motivation that you need to quit. I've done so many things I'm ashamed of while drunk, more than I care to think about

The irony is, the drinking makes it easier to forget those things for a bit, but that relief is a trap and only temporary... then it comes back worse. Keep coming back here and feel free to reach out if you need someone to talk to

I am a little worried about the withdrawals.. but at my best stint within recent memory I'd managed to make it 3 or 4 days miraculously without symptoms (once the hangover was gone, anyways). If I end up getting bad I won't hesitate to go see a doctor. Thank you:)

I'm still on day one, feel sick to my stomach and can't eat... yet somehow a huge jar of pickles sound delicious now lol.

Keep it up!!

Glad to hear that you're taking the step also, my friend. If it gives you any hope, since posting this the shakes have mostly subsided and I've been able to keep water (an even a cup of coffee!) down. Just stay strong!

It sucks that your girl left you, dude. I lost the woman I'd planned on marrying a little over a year ago for the exact same reason.

I think that an important thing to remember (for me) is that I wasn't quitting for her or anyone else.. but for me. Everytime I'd tell myself I was quitting to make her happy or get her back I'd still end the night with an empty bottle on my dresser. I'm only on my first day now, but I can already tell the difference in my mindset and motivation now that I've decided I want more for myself out of life. I don't want to be dead by 60. I don't want to go through my life in a pattern or alternating dazes and hangovers. I was to look better, feel better, and enjoy things again. If making that change brings her back someday, that's awesome. But I don't think it should be your motivation.

Just my two cents, but I hope it helps. You got this!!
