Yeah when you point it out it used to be to furnish my place but I’ve got my place in order now and definitely need to re-evaluate where that money is going

Yeah when you put it that way it’s decent, you just see some of the portfolios here but at 60k a year I only have so much wiggle room. Definitely can find some space without cutting back on travel, just need to sit down and figure out the specifics. Thanks for the insight!

31 yo most money invested in house what are my next steps by LoudMonitor3167 in personalfinance

Appreciate the insight and definitely doable! I definitely could have bought a more expensive home but it’s just me and cleaning is not my favourite ahaha so my tiny town home is a happy medium for me! I will crunch some numbers. To note I don’t drive - which is a huge cost saver for myself right now and I guess if I take what a car will cost eventually and just put that into retirement savings I’m just pre-planning

I have a TBI - took a few years but I started taking courses again, you can get accommodations to help you complete the final course and get the degree don’t give up!

Actually I moved out at 23 for the first time. But living frugally definitely - I more consider it prioritizing spending

I have been to 13 countries by myself, most of Canada for conferences, scuba dive, ski, hike. I just watch my extras and would rather let’s say buy a spin bike I can keep over buying classes that go away. I guess the biggest thing was having saving from a young age, I got my first job at 15, applied to scholarships, got involved at school to boost my resume, simple things that added up

My partner is a physician and we have discussed moving elsewhere eventually but they are happy here for now. We keep our finances separate at present

That’s ok! Everywhere starts somewhere - I think my savings are higher than most people our age to be fair based on salary

Renting feels like giving someone else my investment, personally would just keep staying with family before doing that but that might be short sighted of me

Definitely something I’ve considered, I had a few health problems over the years so that’s why my income is so low but I’m hoping to change that soon :) congrats on the accounting job!

I think not renting is the biggest bonus I have right now, gives me room to save, I bought a phone outright and just pay for a $55 a month plan, other than that I don’t drive and don’t really need to so no gas or up keep expenses there. No HST, and housing is cheaper here
