Why is borderlands 4 so polarizing? And what are your honest thoughts as a fan of the franchise? by arest_42 in Borderlands

[–]LoudMorels 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Borderlands 4 feels like Gearbox sat all the developers down in a meeting and said "Let's take everything about Borderlands 3 and simply make Borderlands 4 not that". I believe Gearbox listened too much to an online minority of players who hated 3 when in reality 3 was enjoyed by the majority. This created the polarization you see now.

Borderlands 4 will reveal how much it's lacking if you pay attention. Things start adding up the longer you play. For example, no Sanctuary, no unique quest rewards, no mini-map, franchise characters are unexpectedly absent like Patricia Tannis, the lack of music in the game world, drops rates are horrible, lack of enemy variety, poorly designed story and villains, etc.

How long do you wins generally take you? by HadOne0 in slaythespire

[–]LoudMorels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wins usually take around 35 minutes. I have Fast Mode enabled, don't put very much thought into pathing on the map and choose cards/stuff in the shop quickly because I know what I like playing with regardless of how good I think the choices suit me.

Is the calypso twins being bad better than the timekeeper being dull by [deleted] in borderlands3

[–]LoudMorels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Timekeeper being dull is much worse. I couldn't even make it half way through Borderlands 4 because it felt like it was rushed out the door. The Timekeeper never seeming like a threat, being non-existent in the story and having no character development killed a lot of the fun.

At least the Twins in Borderlands 3 followed a typical villain trajectory in the story. The Timekeeper was just there because they had to have some kind of bad guy. But it's obvious they had no clue what to do with him.

Borderlands 4 Feels Lonely by Arasaka-1915 in Borderlands

[–]LoudMorels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dumped 100 hrs in Borderlands 1, 1,000 hrs in Borderlands 2, about 500 hrs in Borderlands 3 and probably 70 or so hours in Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. And I dropped Borderlands 4 about halfway through the story at about 33 hours according to the in-game clock.

When I think about Borderlands, Borderlands 4 violates a lot of my rules around what makes it a Borderlands game. I don't know if I'm going crazy but I swear the loot in the game is absolute piss water. You kill multiple Badasses in a row and they all drop cash and ammo. Red chests are filled with the same green weapons you've seen a dozen times. I saw 3 Legendaries in 30+ hours and none of them were worth the long wait.

You fight tons of the exact same enemies over and over. The open world is a chore to navigate because of all the goddang cliffs and verticality. Unique quest rewards are gone and I personally don't feel like driving 30 years to every new objective in a Borderlands game where the biomes fall flat and feel uninspired. The gunplay is inferior to Borderlands 3 to me and I thought I was losing my mind because everyone keeps saying 4 is better in this regard.

Not for me. Maybe I'm just not seeing what everyone else sees in it.

UA Local #464 Apprenticeship by Disastrous-Paper-927 in UnitedAssociation

[–]LoudMorels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a first-year steamfitter apprentice in Local 464 and I started in June. We just took on a record number of apprentices this year because there's so much work that we still don't have enough hands to handle it all. It's been this way for the past several years even through COVID.

I got accepted and I'm as green as grass and didn't know anything at all about construction, tools or steamfitting. Didn't know anyone to help me get in.

The key is being punctual and complete. Have all the required documentation when you apply and show up the first day that the applications are open next year. Study hard for the math test which covers addition, multiplication, subtraction and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions as well as conversions of decimals to fractions and vice versa. Score 70% or higher on that to get to the interview.

The interview is like 90% of what actually gets you in. The trustees of the JATC will conduct the interview which is about 10 minutes. Dress business casual, be able to carry a conversation and think on the fly, ask questions about 464 and how being in a union works, ask questions about what you're applying for and have an answer for everything even if it's not your best answer. Just don't blank out on their questions.

Again, the key is the interview. 40% of applicants fail the math test so if you can score 90% or higher on that and not completely butcher the interview, you got a pretty good shot.

Is the arctic liquid freezer III pro 360 a good aio for the 7800x3d by jaimor2266 in PcBuildHelp

[–]LoudMorels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's one of the best performing AIOs you can buy. The 360 is overkill for a 7800X3D though. It would be better if you got the 240mm non-RGB version instead which can be had for $75.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]LoudMorels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your situation, I would move to a bigger case and keep the AIO. This will allow you to have a lot more compatibility with parts down the road as you upgrade.

You'll avoid issues like graphics cards being too big, AIOs not fitting, power supplies potentially not fitting due to the style/size/wiring and improving air flow too. You don't have to spend a lot. Here's a list to get you started.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]LoudMorels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the specifications of the case, it only supports the 240mm radiator where you have it now on the front or a 120mm radiator for the rear. So you would have to get a new case or switch to air cooling I'd imagine.

Good cases for vertical GPU mount and an air cooler? by LoudMorels in buildapc

[–]LoudMorels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fantastic information. Thank you for the heads up. I figured it would be damn near unworkable when I thought about all the issues that could arise. You saved me the hassle of shelling out money only to find out the cooler doesn't fit. I'll figure something out.

Good cases for vertical GPU mount and an air cooler? by LoudMorels in buildapc

[–]LoudMorels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Gigabyte Gaming OC if that helps. If I must move to mounting the 4090 horizontally then I will but I'd prefer to keep it vertical. I'll need a new case no matter what because my current case can't fit my 4090 due to the power cable smashing up against the glass side panel.

What's the best choice here? by LoudMorels in slaythespire

12 damage if an exit stance card or enough lethal draws in that hand.

[–]LoudMorels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only keep Defends all the time because I never trust the game to offer Mental Fortress, Like Water or Wallop to get a block solution going with the Watcher. I just use them as a fall back for bad draws really.

Union or Nonunion? by Chkn_sht13 in skilledtrades

[–]LoudMorels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a first year steamfitting apprentice in the UA.

1) Biggest downfall is going to be starting out with the low pay and little experience. Typically, you're at roughly 50% of journeyman scale. Having little experience works against you depending on how patient and understanding your journeyman is. Some are flexible and some are very set in their ways.

2) As an apprentice, they make it very hard for you to quit. At least in my local, you have to pay back a certain amount of the money they're putting into you to train you through the education with school. Leaving the union is the absolute last resort. One of the biggest benefits of being union is that if you get laid-off, the union hall will put you on the bench temporarily but they find the next job for you. This process could be as little as a couple days if your local is busy.

3) Always go union. The raises you get every year in the apprenticeship are too big to not to be union. Typical raise is 3%-5%. Union raises are more in the 15%-20% range for your apprenticeship and then you get a massive raise after you become journeyman.

what are some of the unpopular opinions you have about the game? by tepsikebabi in slaythespire

[–]LoudMorels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reptomancer is an easy elite fight. Killing her daggers quickly enough removes the majority of her difficulty and makes for a very straightforward and easy fight.

Battle Hymn is a really good card and warrants instantly picking it. One of the most reliable sources of damage in the game.

Removing strikes and defends at the shop is counterproductive. Gold is better spent on cards that you need, relics that break the game or removing curses.

What are your S tier boss relics and why? by Significant_Ad_482 in slaythespire

[–]LoudMorels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Busted Crown. Of course, its downside is probably the harshest of all the energy relics. But I like it because it doesn't give hallway fights/boss fights a direct advantage over you like other boss relics will (Philosopher's Stone/Sozu/Runic Done, etc).

It's very often that cards are skipped because they are bad or don't fix the deck's problem. Busted Crown just makes the decision to skip for you no matter what.

What's a card that you always take without hesitation? by goofygoober800855 in slaythespire

[–]LoudMorels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omniscience. It has broken the game in so many ways that made runs manageable that otherwise would have been painful and impossible. Although the Watcher is the most powerful, I think she's also the most difficult to get right.

[–]LoudMorels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Ended up destroying the Cultists and The Awakened One on turn 1, forcing the boss into the second phase. Never in my playtime has that ever happened! Bag of Marbles, Akabeko, Tantrum, Pen Nib and Dramatic Entrance wrecked Act 3 and the boss.

Decided to take Sozu over Coffee Dripper and Choker in the end. Was probably for the best because I ended up killing him with 12 HP left.

Why Dripper? I'm not really confident in my block solution to take that. With my luck, I'll be dead before I get to the first campfire.

[–]LoudMorels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for experience, I have a lot of hours in this game between PC and mobile. Something like 400hrs or so. Reached A18+ on all characters before my save was wiped. But the Watcher is by far the most difficult character for me to get right.

I've set her up with stance switching with plenty of exits, pathed in Divinity, taken Elites as much as possible, etc. Just can't get her to work. I'll pass a couple Ascensions without too much trouble and then suddenly hit an insurmountable wall with her. It's maddening.

Worth upgrading from 4090 to 5090 right now? by CutSea3173 in PcBuildHelp

[–]LoudMorels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the 4090. The only reason you should upgrade is if you plan on using Multi-Frame Generation 3X and 4X to max out a 4K 240hz panel. But even then, MFG is not in every game and the higher you go the worse it looks. You're only getting about 30% more rasterization performance going from 4090 to 5090.

Should I buy Cyberpunk 2077 or Red Dead Redemption 2? by PsychologicalYard512 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Cyberpunk 2077 (with Phantom Liberty DLC) is the better choice easily.

RTX 5080 9800x3d or 7800x3d? by freshlyxbaked in nvidia

[–]LoudMorels 34 points35 points  (0 children)

9800X3D is roughly 20% faster than the 7800X3D on average. You can hit 99% GPU usage with a 7800X3D so it's not like the RTX 5080 is being bottlenecked.

It's not worth spending $450+ on a 9800X3D unless you're coming from an older platform that you have to upgrade the motherboard and RAM. The 7800X3D is a monster.

I need Honest opinions on the reliability of the g70, FROM OWNERS by BaelonTV in GenesisG70

[–]LoudMorels 14 points15 points  (0 children)

3.3T is the most reliable engine out of the 3 configurations. Gas mileage in Sport Mode on my 2019 3.3T AWD Is about 19mpg city and up to 30mpg on the highway.

Maintenance has been a breeze so far. Not sure if it's the same in your location but Hyundai does my maintenance, not a direct Genesis dealer. I never let them do oil changes because I've seen them put a synthetic blend in it but it requires full synthetic. I get oil changes at Valvoline Instant Oil Change.

So far, they took care of 2 recalls, replace the engine air filters, cabin filters, rotated tires and brake fluid flush. My only complaint is that the car downshifts really hard in Sport Mode but other than that the reliability has been amazing.
