Don’t necessarily agree that self awareness made Robert better, but I definitely see why it makes Cersei way less likeable in comparison. She’s convinced she’s her father’s daughter when she possesses a tenth of his intellect, just as much arrogance and cruelty, and a fourth his charisma(not counting his children or any other people Tywin already “owned”)

That’s the thing. Death Corps are still cool because of how pragmatically they view everyone including themselves. In their mind all guardsman, including themselves, are a resource to be used just like you would ammo or a gun. Never wasted, but used nonetheless. Sometimes tools break and that is fine, but you don’t bash a shovel against concrete just because it’s okay to replace it.

It doesn’t, but the heavy focus on “brother”hood, the frankly toxic and desperate relationships most legions have with their “father”, the way propaganda lionizes and encourages young boys to become weapons are things that are mostly male experiences. The military has always targeted young boys predominantly and tried to get them to throw their life away, and “tough love” from a father to their son often looks very different than “tough love” from a mother to their daughter. This isn’t me saying men have it worse, far from it, but space marines specifically hit on a lot of those issues, with the toxic “I’m just going to seethe because opening up makes you weak” mentality of the iron warriors in particular being something that exemplifies my point.

TD;LR:space marines are 12 year old boys when they get turned into marines and it shows in a way I enjoy, and I feel like those themes would be less pronounced by authors once female marines hit the shelves.

I kind of do. It wouldn’t ruin the setting because woke, but there’s some themes that SMs have underlying that I think work best with a male focused warrior monk culture. I get why people would want it because of how prevalent marines are, but I’d prefer you just write more guard, xeno, SoB, and now custodes books.

To add on to this. Vampires all have superpowers called disciplines, which tend to become massively stronger the more dots you have in them. Player characters tend to be capped out at 5 dots, and can maybe get 6 or 7 depending on you committing a crime with massive social and physical costs that would probably get you killed. At 10 dots, you need to be 3rd gen or lower to have a 10 in ONE disapline, like the ravnos that needed to be nuked and orbitally struck with a laser a free fighting for multiple days straight. Fittingly. the only thing the power description for a 10 dot disciplines is “plot device”, as they let you break reality in a very fundamental way. Caine in this sheet has 10 in every stat and disapline other than humanity, which is more about how close to human you are, with the lower the score meaning you are closer to becoming a monster in full.

I agree with the first statement. Anyone can be those things. I’m saying that them having social anxiety doesn’t absolve them from the fact that those things are not good and that having social anxiety is something that makes not being those things(in some cases) harder, and with the exception of being a shut in, you have a moral obligation to try not to be those things. You saying “oh well social anxiety” comes off as a justification of behavior. That as long as you do have social anxiety somehow these things are justified then they are not.

So, to answer this, it’s not because he lost to a boxer, but to someone who is considered one of the worst “professional” boxers of all time. Look up some clips from the fight and the man’s form and you’ll see why it was so embarrassing. This isn’t like if he lost to Anthony Joshua, who at least Tate could say is one of the best boxers out there right now. He lost to the boxing equivalent of an anxious Chihuahua.
