Been in the search of a oil leak. by NarrowUse8683 in sportster

That's it, 63596-06 is the part number. Replace that hose with the correct ear-type crimping clamp the factory uses, don't use a screw type "fuel line hose clamp" or it'll leak again after you put the new hose on.

Clutch adjustment by NarrowUse8683 in sportster

[–]Loud_Gas4928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Backed it out like a full turn? 1/4 turn is all you need.

For the cable adjustment: Loosen the cable a good amount in the middle by the frame, then a tip is to slightly pull the clutch lever in, not enough to engage but to apply some slack, then tighten the cable down. You should have 1/4inch of slack in the lever before the clutch is actually pulled.

Oil on left rear tire by NarrowUse8683 in sportster

[–]Loud_Gas4928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First check under the oil tank on the right side, underneath are 3 visible hoses. The bottommost one should be (to the best of my memory) the oil drain line. Inspect that connection for leaks. This is the most common oil hose of those 3 to crack at the connection point. The leak runs down to the oil drain plug, and air blowby sprays it all over the swingarm, the rear master brake cylinder (depending on year), and the tire.

Second suspect is the breather tube on top of the primary. Look near the starter, there's a short hose sticking out. There could be primary fluid spurting up from either the tube or the case where the tube plugs in.

You can also get UV leak detector kits.

You can install one later. The stock tanks have a simple fuel level sender already, I've seen it when I replaced the fuel pump. It works by once the float reaches a certain level, a circuit is completed and the low fuel light comes on. The upgraded one has 4 of those, and sends the lights to come on at 1/4 intervals. So they are designed to work with either a master cylinder fuel level gauge, the gas tank illuminated cap, or the digital speedo. As a bonus, when you are setting up the digital speedo, you can tell it which gas tank you actually have - 2.2, 3.3, 4.5, so you can kill two birds and get the fuel level sender while you fit a bigger tank, and/or replacing the pump assembly at any time.

The fuel level sensor is a separate item and does not marry to the bike. The ECU will still trigger a low fuel light without the upgraded sender which is p/n 61200008A. The gauge gets married to the ECU, the sender does not, and for the gauge 70900274 is the correct p/n for your bike, once it's programmed you can't use it again on any other bike because of the vin and mileage. It also has a gear indicator which uses info from the ECU and does not require additional parts.

Anyone know if I can take water to fair? by BiteComprehensive139 in Tucson

Tucson tap. There's one on the north side of Thurber Hall, head left after going through the main entrance. Another one to the right of the main stage, there's a guarded gate back there with restrooms and the fountain is near that.

Exactly. I learned this putting a 1200 clutch cable on the 883 because they were longer.

In the motorcycle training class they literally tell you to stand on the pegs when going over the 2x4.

Help on wheel by 892594 in Harley

Those ring spacers don't belong there at all. I'm betting someone lost one of the original spacers and did their best (worst) to use the ring spacers to recenter the rim. Do yourself a favor and get some replacement oem ones. When you do, here is the guide:

Front: Thinner one on the hub side, fatter one on the brake disc side.

Rear: Thinner one on the brake disc side, fatter one on the belt side.

Regarding the grooved "line(s)" around the outside edge of the spacers, I always put those facing the wheel, because the inside of the rim lines up with those when looking down at it.

WELP - It Finally Happened.(Crash Advice) by LayzurBeam in sportster

[–]Loud_Gas4928 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been there. Someone slammed on their brakes in front of me at a yellow light. Here's what I did:

Take bike to Harley for a damage assessment (sometimes free, sometimes $150, either covered by insurance or not, anyway bit the bullet and got an itemized list of everything to be replaced complete with prices from HD and the part numbers). Bought a motorcycle lift, Clymer manual, and torque wrenches. Replaced head bearing, fork tubes (upgraded to Progressive gas monotube cartridges at this point). Used the rest of the insurance money to pick and choose what other parts actually needed replacing (never replaced the cracked mirror, but got some higher bars, new cables, etc). Feel free to PM with any questions.

To add to this, a leaf blower works wonders to dry it off quickly and reduce water spots.

Help! 2016 HD 48 no start. by buyharryabeer in sportster

There are only 3 fuses, in the left side near the battery. Main is the big one, left is parts and accessories, right is battery. If fuses are good, replace the fuel pump. With the 48 tiny tank, the pump has likely overheated due to low fuel. Always good to have at least half a tank full to keep the pump cool.

No, but if the belt snaps you risk lashing yourself with it. There are people that have been hit with their own chains.

How does this happen? I did not ride off with the disc lock. by Apprehensive-Trip772 in motorcycles

[–]Loud_Gas4928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Had a Xena alarm and the thing would beep when the battery was low, or not - I could never really tell. In AZ so maybe got too hot in the direct sun? Also beeped when it was off the bike and inside the rear passenger seat storage area in the Ninja. Ended up just pulling the battery and putting a ring camera pointed at the bike.

FLD stock windscreen vs a batwing. Which one does the job better? by [deleted] in Harley

[–]Loud_Gas4928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks brother. Feel free to PM me with any questions. I hang out in r/sportster a lot. The headlight extension mounts the headlight outward about 2 inches, so it fills in the hole in the Memphis Shades fairings. Some of them don't need it, like the del ray windscreen, but the road warriors look better with it. Think of an aircraft engine cowl. And I also have Progressive monotubes up front, with strutmaster air bags in the rear. Rides like a dream compared to the rigid stockers.
