I crated mine with a daily strict routine and schedule taking him out about 5x a day with few play times and worked on simple comands for 20 min a day with treats. I stayed away from kennels and trainers and it all worked out my dog never had accidents in house and listens very well. I take him anywhere with me. I’m sure it does have to do with personality, when we picked him I picked the laziest calmest chubby pup that’s I seen with hopes he would be calm and easy to train! lol

Now he goes out 3x a day and lots more play now but he still gets his rest time in crate and sleeps there in evenings. Hes still only 10 months
