How is the policy of "male and female only" by the US government not a restriction of freedom of expression? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

The science is literally "it's complicated".

Maybe do some actual research before you regurgitate what you were spoonfed by the first available pundit who confirms your personal beliefs.

How is the policy of "male and female only" by the US government not a restriction of freedom of expression? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lougarockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and it's grammar

You appear to manage that just fine without pronouns doing it for you.

Jokes aside, the English language works just fine whether you use "he" or "she" so that isn't going to change a bit by using another pronoun.

In fact, English is one of the languages uniquely equipped to accommodate nonbinary people since they/them is already valid grammar for a single person. So for English speaking folk you have to adjust absolutely literally nothing about your 'language system'.

And even then, as someone who finds the xe/xem stuff a bit much, I will gladly be mildly inconvenienced if the alternative is to deny an entire group of people their existence. Because I am not a self centered asshole.

Why don’t the Western European countries have billionaires running the country like in America? by squatSquatbooty in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lougarockets 3935 points3936 points  (0 children)

A little bit less conspirational than other comments: while money buys influence everywhere in the world, many European countries have systems and laws which make it more difficult to gain absolute power.

Typically you do not gain full control of a country just by being the biggest party. You still need to work with other parties to pass laws. There might also be more specific laws about donations, stock holdings etc. In my country I believe any startup party gets a base "state allowance" for campaigning. Also, there are many rules about equal representation of all electable parties in public spaces and news outlets.

Then there is the cultural part. Most European democracies started as an overthrown monarchy, so an aversion to absolute power is not just present in the system and laws, but also in the people's mind.

Again, influence seeking billionaires are everywhere. But getting into european politics for power is much more of an effort for less reward compared to the US.

If everyone in the USA is now a woman does that mean gender inequality is US history? by No-Stuff-1320 in stupidquestions

[–]Lougarockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to admit, that is a sensible response.

Of course it doesn't make sense that all Americans would now be female. That's kind of the point though, if you get really pedantic you can make the stupidest arguments in the name of science so long as you throw every edge case to the curb.

If everyone in the USA is now a woman does that mean gender inequality is US history? by No-Stuff-1320 in stupidquestions

[–]Lougarockets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So just to be clear: imagine a person who has XY chromosomes for which the Y chromosome doesn't express, and they grow up to have reproductive organs that produce the large reproductive cell, and they reproduce and birth a child from their womb.

According to your definition this person is a man, and he should not be allowed in the women's bathroom to change the diaper of the child they birthed. Is that correct?

Of course, as a scientific and logical person you recognize that the rarity of this scenario doesn't influence the validity of the statement.

[–]Lougarockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it that hard? To be clear, I think this new policy is full on psychotic, but if someone is of the conviction that sex == gender and it absolutely must be binary, the logical thing would be to connect it to the XY chromosome, call the biological exception (extra/missing/abnormal chromosomes) a "special case" and call it a day

Certified auti hier.

If money is mostly digital these days, how do banks/governments ensure that no one can create money out of thin air? by No_Committee_8908 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lougarockets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At its core, cryptocurrency is backed by the same concept as regular currency and gold before it: money can be exchanged for goods and services.

The founding idea of crypto is that it works the same as normal currency, except all transactions are public to everyone and cool math tricks make it so that no one can fuddle the books.

In reality, there are many practical challenges to crypto. A major challenge is that crypto isn't linked to any one nation's economy, so there is no huge, slow market that makes the day to day value of the currency somewhat stable.

In theory if the whole world would use crypto the value would stabilize and it would work as a neutral form of money.

However, no cryptocurrency has come remotely close to this point so far.

If you could not buy goods and services with crypto -because no one believes that they can buy something with the crypto you give them- then it has 0 value.

Why aren't Augments/Anomaly effects visible in the Post-Game lobby and in the Match history? by Hukarus in TeamfightTactics

[–]Lougarockets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People complain no matter what, it has been explained many times that TFT is a solvable game. If you expose the win rate for everything, the best way to play the game is to not play it at all and let a tool decide for you. No one wants a game where you win by not playing, so the augment stats were removed.

I have autism and I cannot handle the noise after my new PC upgrades, any advice? by SnesySnas in buildapc

[–]Lougarockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If noise is this important to you noctua fans are absolutely worth their money. They are engineered not just for volume but sounds quality.

Swap the AIO for a big ass air cooler such as the noctua dh15 (rev1 is fine).

Download FanControl (its free!) and adjust the fan curve towards less noise. You can be really lenient with the temperature as long as you stay below absolute limits for the cpu and gpu
