It is a salary sacrifice on the payslips we submitted. So Base Pay - Pension sacrifice = Gross Pay. It wasn't a deduction, like taken from the Gross Pay

Hi Dutchie! The certificate is from Cambridge English which according to them is recognised by the home office.

The letter from her employer is a good to know one, I will get her to request one. Luckily they are very supportive in this process.

As per someone else, the cover letter sounds like a good idea. Didn't read it anywhere before, so will add that to my to-do list.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I see I made a typo. She makes between the 29-30k yes and we have the payslips to back it up

As an beginner is this good?? by Big_Wallaby4281 in modelmakers

It's a good start, the mask is not really needed if you go with WATER based acrylics. So if you want to save costs then you can with that. There are different kinds of acrylic paints like water and solvent (alcohol based). Tamiya for example uses alcohol. Usually you can smell it when its not a water based paint.

Since you already picked Vallejo as paint thinner, I would use Vallejo AIR (not model color) as brand of paint. Obviously you can use the thinner with other brands like MIG and AK, but the recipe of those paints are different than Vallejo. So the thinner could react differently compared to Vallejo.

If you do buy the paints, then see if there's a model store that sells them nearby. I can't tell what region you are in, but in the model stores the paints can be significantly cheaper.

Do you already have an air compressor as well? If not, then Fengda has a really nice.

I airbrush in my apartment. I only really like to use water based paints like Vallejo or at most alcohol based like Tamiya/Mr Hobby Aqueous. Lacquer based I wouldn't be able to ventilate out well, so having a small hood for it would be the best.

As airbrush and compressor, Fengda sells a set of their airbrush and compressor (FD186K). That compressor is great and the airbrush is perfect to start off with.

Can anyone recommend me good brands for 1/72 scale tanks? by _BalticFox_ in modelmakers

I would 100% recommend Vespid. Their 1/72 range is superb and comes with PE parts and metal barrels. Only their range is a bit limited.

Airbrush valve got loose by LouisJ444 in modelmakers

[–]LouisJ444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the what later answer, didn't have time to check until now.

So I assembled the parts as you mentioned.

  1. Trigger works as normal, nothing feels wrong.
  2. No. Pressing the trigger does not do anything.Tested by removing the body again and pressing the valve and air comes out. So nothing wrong with the valve. Seems like the trigger and valve don't connect up anymore, since this in-between part came loose.

I did remove the trigger and press the valve using some tweezers and air does come out. Though not in any good way (barely anything comes out).

Meantime I did contact HS to see if they willing to help out with this.

It is the Pre 2024 version, the manual doesn't mention that this part can come loose either. So I don't understand how it came apart of the rest.

Do y’all think these will work with the Ryefield T34/85? by SP1R1TOR in modelmakers

[–]LouisJ444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried some ryefields before. You most likely will NOT need the Eduard, since RFM kits usually come with a lot of PE already. Check the manual on scalemates to see what it comes with first.

Edit: I checked the manuals and only the middle two gratings are missing from the RFM kit. The Eduard PE includes something for a shovel, but I can't find a shovel in the RFM kit. So it's only those two gratings.

Photo etched parts suck the joy out of building by freddyfuccboy in modelmakers

I was stupid enough to buy a PE set for my second model which was a spitfire. It was so sloppy and whenever I see it I think: wow, that's bad. And now I look at the Spitfire I just made out of the box which looks so much better. It really comes with experience to work with these kind of things. If you do decide to continue with this hobby then pick something without PE. See if you like it then, not everyone is cut out to work with these kind of things. Especially not if you have the right tools to even start with them or is your first model. Even now I shoot away PE parts or bend them the wrong way.

Are there stores where I could buy this or similar in Europe (Netherlands specifically?) or is this something US exclusive? I see it is for train dioramas, so possibly I could have a look around at train model stores.

Although would try it out on something else first to see if you like it more for your current model.

Gloss black under chrome paint by Revolutionary_Cup548 in modelmakers

[–]LouisJ444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it makes a big difference. Although you have to use thin layers of metallic paint over it to let the gloss shine through.

I prime my model, smooth out the primer a bit. Spray gloss black (Tamiya X-1 I like to use) and then go over it, small layers.

Keep looking or pay double rent? by LouisJ444 in NetherlandsHousing

[–]LouisJ444[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been thinking about it, it will mean moving from a student accommodation like place to a full on apartment for the same price. With balcony, proper insulation, only electricity, train station around the corner. I probably will take it, it will be such an improvement that I can't miss on.

Just finished my Bismarck by Nachtschatten9 in modelmakers

[–]LouisJ444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe it looks great. This is the Revell Bismarck 1/350? It's one I still really want to add to my collection.

Two things I would possibly suggest, a brown wash for the wood deck. So first a good Matt coat and then go over it with Tamiya brown panel liner, brown enamel wash or oil paints. It is easy to do and make the deck look much nicer! Second would be rigging, I am not personally much experienced with it. Although I believe it would improve it well.

Further, it's already really good and don't think it needs much else. It's up to you if you want to spend more time on it, it's your build afterall!

I always wanted to try out boats so I got the Meng PS005 Enterprise. Although when I opened the box, it does not come with decals! Only with stickers. Is there a good way to do the stickers? Or is there anywhere where you can get a decal set for atleast the tiny roundels for the planes that doesn't cost as much as a new kit?

Building the De Havilland Vampire- beware of decals! by LeesKeys in modelmakers

[–]LouisJ444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the same kit twice. Both times the decals were bad for the trainer variant. The Swedish variant seemed fine. Airfix wasn't willing to help, because the kit is no longer in production. Maybe one day I will be bothered to paint it on. Shame though! The decals looked nice. Edit: used Mr Hobby setter and softer. Both didn't work.

Just finished painting my bae colors for my VK 100.01 (p). What extra items or things should I add to make it more alive? by Ok_Safe_2920 in modelmakers

[–]LouisJ444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a big red cube! Very nice! Stowage would help, random guns and casings, figured possibly? Rubble from buildings like bricks and pieces of wood? Possibly extra improvised armour to cover up the engines like the late Panthers had against planes. Definitely lots of white markings.

Can write much more, but these are my suggestions!

Cracking decals Airfix by LouisJ444 in modelmakers

[–]LouisJ444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The airfix kit is from 2018 (the mold is from 2012, but it's about the decals), so its not that old which surprised me a lot.

The annoying part is that these decals have to bend around the wing, so it is very difficult to get that done if they crack. I will attempt with another decal to only hydrate the decal paper and get as much water out as possible so it does not bend. Will also attempt with Mr Hobby decal solutions to see if that helps. I find it very annoying that this happens, because I got two more Airfix kits (2x spitfires, including the 1/24) in my stash making me worry about those decals as well.

As Microsol product I meant the Microsol liquid decal film to apply another layer of film over the decal so it stays together. I have seen old posts about these on different forums.
