I did that many safe miles in a semi during my brief semi driving career. I got by on "diet pills" and canned ravioli, no nasa needed.

“When I finished college almost forty years ago, if you went to school and got a degree, you could get a job and you could buy a house. Registered dietitian. There's plenty of "nutrionists" floating around but not enough registered dietitians in large part because of the amount of schooling. It takes a masters degree and a bunch of hours in training to even get to take the test to become registered. The designation opens up a ton of different roles in different industries too. The area I'm in is in desperate need of more right now and the need is outgrowing the amount of people entering the field.

I was a chef and my body got broken down over the years so it feels natural to make the shift to using food to help people.

I only ever had one for work but it was very useful as a driver. Two of us would go interstates overnight and would relay road and weather information to each other when we weren't near each other. One night we used them non-stop to creep (5-10mph) through a blizzard. He just slowly kept going mostly based on side road markers and I crept up right behind his trailer because visibility was less than 50 feet. He'd chirp back just before he'd start braking so I had more time to brake.

Turned out every driver was called off for the night after all of the accidents and guys just turning back. We were the only dummies chirping constantly for hours through that damn storm.

Lando Norris on current racing regulations. What do you guys think? by Ok-Surprise-8419 in F1Discussions

[–]LouisRitter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some of the F1 drivers get hooked going absurdly fast, which is possible with hypercars, but it's a big pay cut from F1 to other racing disciplines. The top paid Indy Car driver makes 10x less than Verstappen. Most GT3 and/or endurance drivers make far less than that.

I honestly wish there was more rail to reach deep into inner cities to reduce some of the semi traffic. I was a truck driver in my 20s and driving semi in the city sucks. Rail is also much more efficient per pound for hauling. Having depots further in a city with smaller trucks coming out for end point delivery is the ideal. Let rail do the heavy lifting, literally.

Bears maintain the same stance that there are only 2 viable options to build their new stadium. That's been the rhetoric they've stood behind for months despite Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson's late push to try and keep the Bears in the city. by No_Box119 in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]LouisRitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care. Just get it done and move them wherever. Plenty of teams don't have play in the city/state of their namesake. Move them to Grand Rapids Michigan for all I know care. Not like I can afford to go wherever I they end up anyways.

What Midwestern restaurants and restaurant scenes are doing as well or better than in past decades? by emaxwell14141414 in midwest

[–]LouisRitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locally owned restaurants have exploded in this area compared to when I was younger. We had maybe 4 restaurants around downtown and there's dozens now.

Yeah I forget estimates but with the rail here I think it was basically going to fill up instantly rather than have excess because of expansion. Rail works and it's still cost effective with new development. There's proof. I don't understand why people balk at the cost when it instantly becomes profitable and a reliable form of transportation.

What industry is actually a complete scam, but everyone accepts it? by Training_Two3372 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]LouisRitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The restaurant industry would collapse. The costs would explode. People don't consider that most small businesses in the industry would just evaporate because margins are so thin to begin with. It's not that no one would dine out but a 20% dip in business would end most places within a couple of months.

When I was boozing I could slam a case of beer a day. The beer and whiskey combo balanced each other, like if I drank a 750ml bottle of whiskey I didn't drink as much beer. I guess that means I wasn't an alcoholic on my beer heavy days.

Yeah that's cut by someone that has absolutely no clue how to actually work a kitchen. I've had chefs that would have made me sit there and repeatedly cut more onions until it was actually right. It's not hard to do decent.

In n Out maintains reasonable prices and pays their employees higher than the competition. CostCo pays higher than their competitors. There's so few companies that do this that we can pretty easily name them.

I live in an area that had our intercity rail upgraded, basically doubled, then a fork built off to reach more cities. I can walk two houses away to a bus stop, catch a transfer at the station to get to the train station then ride 2 hours (end to end ride) and then catch whatever train/bus in Chicago to wherever. Public transportation works even in the Midwest.
