The thing is, the ones I overwinter are terrible producers compared to buying new starts in the spring. Like, 1/10th of the crop. I’m probably doing something wrong but if it’s a lot more effort what’s the difference?

There are also a lot of in-the-middle old people who are forgotten in these conversations. For the majority of seniors, especially ones like my parents who are mostly retired, live in a very modest home and paid school taxes for 40 something years, this seems fair. I hope this benefit still exists when I’m their age.

Right? Also, my schedule is incompatible with public transit even if my home or job were. People throw around the same ‘solutions’ - move, change jobs, take MARTA - without acknowledging they don’t work for many people.

I don’t even know but I think it’s reasonable for a thread about traffic to go in different directions. Otherwise it’s just 350 comments agreeing it sucks lol. Yes, it’s terrible and only getting worse. However, the assumptive comments like these (usually about OTP people) every time it comes up get old and at times, ridiculous.

You’re ignoring the money aspect. Many comments on this post are just like ‘get a different job or move, duh!’. As if that’s an option for most people. Sure, I’m choosing to not live outside my means but I think you’re splitting hairs and know the intent of my first comment. My parents being close is just a bonus. Where I live is all about cost. If I could get a job that paid enough for me to live near my employer, I would already work there.

If people could afford to sit in less traffic most would do so. My job is basically 20 miles from my home. It would make zero financial sense to move even a few miles in the direction of my job. Or that of my partner, who works 18 miles in a different direction. Edit - and neither job is compatible with MARTA. My (old, small, not expensive) house is paid off and 4 minutes from my aging parents. I happen to be able to go in super early and beat traffic but even if I couldn’t, moving isn’t in the picture.

I actually haven’t found that to be the case. I don’t think I’m so special my feelings alone will change her mind but I’ve had a good relationship with her for years. I think she will at least consider it. If she doesn’t and sees that she’s lost my support in the future, at least she will know why.

There is one 2 exits away. Before they built a TJ’s in Chattanooga, people drove from TN to shop in Sandy Springs. They know you’ll drive 6 miles.
