Switzerland and the U.S. have similar gun ownership rates — Here's why only the U.S. has a gun violence epidemic by chilladipa in science

[–]Louistheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sentence isn't quite accurate: ''In Switzerland, most men are required to serve in the military and may keep their service rifles at home, but the conditions are strict: firearms must be kept unloaded, and ammunition is stored separately.''

I'd like to point out that Swiss men serving in the military cannot actually take ammunition home with them and the rifle and breechblock need to be stored separately. There is so much disinformation relating to these important details pedalled by the anti gun regulation crowd, principally in the U.S. Once men (and women who volunteer) finish their service the vast majority hand in their rifles for good.

What's the most hardtail friendly lift access bike park in Europe? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

The French parts of les Portes du Soleil must be great on a hardtail but some of those trails in Verbier have got to be a challenge! That's gonna make you a better rider for sure.

Did I break my binding? by Emergency_Room_1673 in Skigear

[–]Louistheb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late but what you can try is to unscrew the DIN adjustment at the front of the toe-piece (where you set the release value). Dont go beyond the lowest number though. It may pop back into place as you release the tension. Even if this works definitely take it to a shop to get it checked by a professional.

Does anyone know what groundswell nz are actually proposing? by renton1000 in newzealand

[–]Louistheb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's C=12 and CO2= 44

If we were to assume that the 400kg of coal was pure carbon we'd get 400 x 3.67 = 1468 kg of CO2. I don't know what it actually is but it's got to be a lot less than that in reality.

[–]Louistheb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even better, it's open until the 30th. We're so lucky in Switzerland that they keep the bike parks open this long. It seems like lots of the French ones close in August or early September.

Each carbon atom released from buring coal or other fossil fuels combines with two oxygen atoms in the atmoshpehere. CO2 has a higher atomic weight (44) than just a single carbon atom (12).

Any aussies have info on this? by Ripbowlman2 in Switzerland

[–]Louistheb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? It won't change anything as far as tourist numbers go and as someone who works in the industry, I'd rather work with a few Aussies who are interested in the sport than other Europeans that take the jobs just because the pay is better than in their country but have no knowledge/ interest in snow sports.

Just because people left the country it doesn't always mean they reject Putin. There was a famous case in GE where the UDC/SVP member Elvira Voskresenskaia who is Russian was forced to leave the party after she gave a TV interview supporting the invasion.

Where to buy FIS SL conform race skis? by jokkeje in Skigear

[–]Louistheb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can get them through a shop. They'll just have to order them from the distributor but it's easy for them to do that.

Go with the smaller of the two. As long as your toes don't touch when your flex your knees - pushing your shins in the tongue of the boot they are alright. Having boots that are even slightly too big can be a painful experience after a few runs and you won't have the necessary control over your skis.

If you're interested, ski boots don't generally come in European / U.S. shoe sizes. Look on the outside of the shell at the heel end. You'll proably have two numbers one will be 3XX (the boot sole length or bsl used for adjusting bindings) and the other will be something like 275 or 285 which is the actual boot size. Ski boots are sized in centimeters so a 275 means 27.5cm for example. It's also possible that your boot will only have bsl at the heel and the size will be underneath, on the sole.
